SUCCESS CAME 70 YEARS LATER DURING THE 1979 REVOLUTION WHEN THE MONARCHY WAS OVERTHROWN UNDER ULAMA'S LEADERSHIP. IN THIS ARTICLE, THE AUTHOR COMPARES THE THEORETICAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THESE TWO REVOLUTIONS.

Borderland Religion narrates, presents and interprets the fascinating and significant practices when borders, migrants and religion intersect. This collection of original essays combines theology, philosophy and sociology to examine diverse religious issues surrounding external national borders and internal domestic borders as these are challenged by the unstoppable flow of documented and undocumented migrants. While many studies of migration have examined how religion plays a major role in the assimilation and integration of waves of migration, this volume looks at a number of empirical studies of how emergent religious practices arise around border crossings. The volume begins with a detailed analysis of the borderland religion context and research. The aim is to bring an eschatological interpretation of the borderland religion, its impact and significance for migrants. Themes include a critical analysis of how religion has formatted Europe; empirical studies from the US/Mexican border and Southern Africa; an overview of the European refugee crisis in 2015; editors' account of borderland religion from the perspective of citizenship studies. Contributions of scholars from a broad range of disciplines ensure a careful analysis of this highly topical situation. The influence of religion on the freedom of conscience cannot be defined in simple terms. Religion is often conceived as limiting the freedom of conscience. However, from the perspective of the philosophy of religion it is necessary to underline the significance of the adoption of democracy as a principle of government. The limitation of the freedom of conscience by religion could be explained, on an anthropological level, by the identity function realized by religion. Nevertheless, religion can exist without being accepted by all. Beyond the evidence of a possible coexistence of religion and political pluralism, religion inherently implies the recognition of the freedom of conscience. The respect for the freedom of conscience results from the human condition itself. Religion makes it possible to transcend one's cultural identity. In return, the freedom of conscience is based on a faith in the equal value of the conscience of every human being. The latter is recognized not only as the means but also as one of the purposes of political power. Religion and the freedom of conscience seem to derive from common foundations. The legal recognition of the freedom of conscience has a concomitant impact on religion by the regulation of its exercise. ; La religion est souvent conçue comme une limite à la liberté de conscience. Cependant, du point de vue de la philosophie de la religion, il est nécessaire de souligner l'importance de l'adoption de la démocratie, qui reconnaît la liberté de conscience comme un moyen mais aussi comme finalité du pouvoir politique, en tant que principe de gouvernement. La limitation de la liberté de conscience par la religion peut être expliquée, sur le plan anthropologique, par la fonction dentitaire assurée par la religion. Na poziomie antropologicznym ograniczanie znaczenia wolności sumienia przez religię może być wyjaśniane z odwołaniem się do funkcji identyfikacyjnej realizowanej przez religię. Z drugiej strony, dla swego istnienia religia nie potrzebuje akceptacji ze strony wszystkich. Poza tym, że istnieją oczywiste dowody na możliwą koegzystencję religii i pluralizmu politycznego, religia zakłada w swojej istocie uznanie wolności sumienia. Poszanowanie wolności sumienia wynika z samej natury człowieka. Religia pozwala człowiekowi na przekroczenie jego tożsamości kulturowej. Natomiast wolność sumienia opiera się na przekonaniu o równej wartości sumienia każdego człowieka. Nie jest ona jedynie środkiem, ale również jednym z celów władzy politycznej. Religia i wolność sumienia mają wspólne podstawy. Prawne uznanie wolności sumienia ma pośredni wpływ na religię poprzez regulacje dotyczące korzystania z tej wolności.

An analysis of aggregate data concerning 2 450 cantons demonstrates considérable variation in relations between religious practice, social stratification and political behavior. Construction of a typology which combines analytical criteria and descriptive variables, leading to six types of relations. Triple conclusion : (1) the departement as a unit of analysis is fallacious ; electoral maps therefore allow only a superfidal observation of the phenomena ; (2) the individual described by stratified surveys is a statistical abstraction which does not take into account thé social context ; (3) if departmental averages are fallacious, national averages are even more so, whether based on aggregate data or on survey results.

Fondé sur des données françaises recueillies dans les années 1960, le livre de G. Michelat et M. Simon Classe, religion et comportement politique établissait l'existence d'une bipolarité à la fois religieuse et politique, les catholiques se situant à droite, les irréligieux à gauche. Soixante ans plus tard, au vu de l'élection présidentielle de 2017, ce constat demeure pertinent. Au premier tour, la religion continue d'être le facteur explicatif le plus important du clivage gauche-droite. Elle devance dans l'ordre le patrimoine, l'âge, le groupe socioprofessionnel, le niveau de diplôme et le genre. La nouveauté majeure est que les musulmans, apparus entretemps, dépassent les sans-religion sur leur gauche. Échappant partiellement au clivage gauche-droite, E. Macron et M. Le Pen pâtissent tous deux au premier tour d'une réticence des catholiques les plus intégrés. Confrontés à ces deux seules candidatures au second, les catholiques préfèrent la candidate du Front national, l'écart avec les musulmans devenant alors considérable. Mais la classe sociale pèse également lourd, les cadres optant massivement pour le futur président – à la différence des classes populaires.
