Die Autorin schildert die einzelnen Etappen der historischen Herausbildung des ethnopolitischen Territoriums Kirgisiens und schildert die komplizierte historische Grenzziehung zwischen den damaligen Territorialmächten China und Rußland. Bis heute dauert der Konflikt um die sogenannten umstrittenen Gebiete an der kirgisisch-chinesischen Grenze an. Der Formierung der ethnopolitischen Einheit Kirgisiens während der Sowjetzeit und in der nach dem Zusammenbruch der UdSSR beginnenden Periode der nationalen Unabhängigkeit ist ein eigener Abschnitt gewidmet. Die Aufrüstung Japans wird in der Welt unterschiedlich beurteilt. Die USA haben längst die Idee von der vollkommenen militärischen Passivisierung Japans aufgegeben. Hauptgrund: sie sind daran interessiert, daß Japan einer der Pfeiler im Pazifik und in Asien wird, im Hinblick auf die Position der Sowjetunion, Chinas und Vietnams. Außerdem würde die Aufrüstung das japanische Wirtschaftspotential auf dem Weltmarkt reduzieren. Besorgt sind die Sowjetunion, China, Vietnam, die ASEAN-Länder und in gewissem Sinn auch Indien.
