Make plans now to attend the 2010 APSA Annual Meeting & Exhibition, September 2–5, 2010. Join more than 7,000 of your colleagues at the largest annual gathering of political scientists, held this year in Washington, DC.
For over one hundred years, APSA's Annual Meeting and Exhibition has provided scholars a unique opportunity to share research, present papers, and network with colleagues. And although each meeting has provided a distinct and worthwhile experience, the 106th Annual Meeting and Exhibition promises to bring one of the most stirring meeting programs yet. Aptly convening in the nation's capital, Washington, DC, more than 7,000 attendees will discuss the latest political science research and theory as it relates to the theme of "hard times" facing the world economy. Program chairs Lisa Martin, University of Wisconsin–Madison, and Andrea Campbell, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, developed a theme that raises questions across many areas of specialization. With more than eight hundred panels organized by 50 thematic divisions, 60 related groups, APSA committees, and presidential task forces, these questions will be explored over the course of the four day event.
In this essay I reflect on the ways through which Rastafarians have created and transformed Kingston by inhabiting the city with their presence, narratives, and lexicon. The Rastafarian Kingston is built on several semantic and political layers, and the question of toponyms emerged in the most diverse interactions I had with my interlocutors throughout fieldwork. I also reflect on their presence; bodies marked by indexes of belonging to the Rastafarian Movement; the decoration of walls and houses with Rastafarian colors and motifs, and the narratives of events that took place in certain parts of town. Exploring the Rastafarian occupation of Kingston is a way of unpacking how different individuals and collectives reflect upon and act on issues such as social memory, citizenship, belonging, the uses of and access to public spaces, the access to rights and reparation for the cycles of violence to which they have been subjected throughout history.
; The thesis of the "coloniality of knowledge" is philosophically weak and historically questionable. Through an analysis of a range of texts of authors of the "decolonial turn" I show that they make unfounded assertions about the connection between Cartesian epistemology and the socio-political conditions and relations of domination in Latin America (colonial domination, capitalist exploitation, racism, sexism). I argue that their conceptualization of the natural and social sciences and their characterization of Cartesian epistemology are superficial and historically dubitable. I conclude that the relation between epistemology and politics that the coloniality of knowledge presupposes is implausible and should be reformulated.
The fundamental question that we ask in this paper is whether the public policy needs of immigrant Latinos can be understood as part of the civil rights agenda. Our tentative answer is that they are distinct. If this is the case, we indicate that the policy needs of immigrants will steadily eclipse the civil rights issues that have galvanized Latino elites and, to a lesser extent, Latinos as a whole from the 1960s to the present. The aim of this paper is to analyze the concept ofKulturin the philosophy of the young Nietzsche. The analysis develops three elements which are very relevant in his notion of Kultur: 1) its determining ideological factors (the "ideology of Kultur"); 2) its metaphysical assumptions (the "metaphysic of the artist"), and 3) its political consequences (a "tragic politics").

Dominant environmental policy wants to be evidence-based, wants to use environmental facts. Grounded in an ethnography of the production of corporate CO 2 footprints, environmental facts are analysed as the effect of work and data processing. In the practical reality of work, environment exists in a hybrid and tactical data space. The environmental political implications make the premises of both ecological modernisation and state control of the environment questionable.
No woman has everbeen elected President of the United States. Despite historic breakthroughs by female politicians, shattering the ultimate glass ceiling is still an elusive feat. The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent to which gender bias influences the U.S. presidential election process. Its aim is also to measure the sociolinguistic impact of negative stereotypes of women in the country's political culture. In gathering the research, the study examined the 2016 U.S. presidential race which featured Hillary Clinton. The veteran public servant ran against a male opponent who had no political experience. Donald Trump's stunning victory shocked the world. It also re-kindled a public dispute about systemic gender discrimination in U.S. politics. This research investigation is a descriptive analysis of gender-specific political debates and discourses featured in TV documentaries, news media coverage, as well as in YouTube videos. The inquiry also examines the impact of Hollywood movies that depict a fictional narrative on political gender bias, generating the question: "Is art imitating or reshaping life?" Evidence from the study points to fossilized cultural prejudice against female politicians who aspire to the nation's highest levels of government. A fair and measured conclusion can also be drawn, which is that such embedded gender bias continues to reinforce outmoded norms, notions, and assumptions about the role of female politicians. But things could radically shift sooner than later. U.S. citizens get a chance to vote for or against a woman who is on the 2020 democratic ticket as presidential nominee Joe Biden's running mate. If the democrats prevail, this female candidate, Kamala Harris, would be a heartbeat away from the most powerful political position in the world.
The Mexican Revolution has fascinated historians and specialists of Mexico for years, but the role of women in the revolution has traditionally been absent except for some brief mention of soldaderas and Adelitas, female participants viewed as exceptional. Sex in Revolution: Gender, Politics and Power in Modern Mexico is an important set of essays that explores the dynamics of both sex and gender in Mexico before and after the revolution.
