This article exposes the role of interdisciplinarity in political science in Colombia, addressing the undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Antioquia as an illustrative reference on the subject. Firstly, the history of the discipline in Colombia is developed, deepening the discussions around hybridization and interdisciplinarity. It is concluded that the former is problematic in terms of autonomy and disciplinary identity, while the latter enables an opening to dialogue with the other social sciences and delimits disciplinary boundaries that allow for clarity about their field of specialization. On the other hand, the strengths and challenges of the consolidation of the discipline at the University of Antioquia are identified. The need to open and maintain disciplinary discussion spaces is emphasized, where minimum procedures can be defined for this interdisciplinary dialogue.

For the past 50 years a select group of scientists has provided advice to the US President, mostly out of the public eye, on issues ranging from the deployment of weapons to the launching of rockets to the moon to the use of stem cells to cure disease. The role of the presidential science adviser came under increasing scrutiny during the administration of George W. Bush, which was highly criticized by many for its use (and some say, misuse) of science. This edited volume includes, for the first time, the reflections of the presidential science advisers from Donald Hornig who served under Lyndon B. Johnson, to John Marburger, the current science adviser, on their roles within both government and the scientific community. It provides an intimate glimpse into the inner workings of the White House, as well as the political realities of providing advice on scientific matters to the presidential of the United States. The reflections of the advisers are supplemented with critical analysis of the role of the science adviser by several well-recognized science policy practitioners and experts. This volume will be of interest to science policy and presidential history scholars and students.

In this paper the family is treated as one of many possible foci of identity which tend to become sacralized. Sacralization is used in the sense of a further integration or institutionalisation by means of objectification, commitment, ritual or myth. Evidence for the sacralization of the family and/or the functions it fulfilled are taken from a large variety of cultures. The frame of reference is then used for the explanation of empirical data regarding divorce, mixed marriages, fertility, religious practice of parents and children and rites of passage in Australia.
Attitudes toward immigration have attracted much scholarly interest and fuelled extensive empirical research in recent years. Many different hypotheses have been proposed to explain individual and contextual differences in attitudes towards immigration. However, it has become difficult to align all of the evidence that the literature has produce so far. The present article contributes to the systematization of political science empirical research on public attitudes toward immigration in the last decade. Using a simplified combined-tests technique, this paper identifies the micro- as well as macro-level factors that are consistently linked to attitudes toward immigration. It reports findings from a meta-analysis of the determinants of general attitudes toward immigration in published articles in thirty highly ranked peer-reviewed political science journals for the years 2009 – 2019. The results warrant a summary of factors affecting attitudes to immigration in a systematic, measurable and rigorous manner.

The principal objectives of the INTRAW project (http://intraw.eu) are the mapping of best practices and boosting of cooperation opportunities related to raw materials between the EU and 5 technologically advanced non-EU countries (Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States). Each of these five "Reference Countries" is subject to similar global challenges. This report presents the contextual analysis of the United States of America (USA) in order to explain the country´s historical economic development during the 20th and 21st century in general, and in relation to development of primary raw materials in particular. Three reports focussing specifically on: raw materials research and innovation; education and outreach; and industry and trade in the Reference Countries will be the next outputs from the project to be published. These will underpin the development of a better understanding of the achievements made in these 5 countries in relation to raw materials research & innovation, educational and skills programmes, trade, exploration, exploitation, processing, recycling and substitution. ; The INTRAW project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement nº 642130. www.intraw.eu

"Over fifty years agosociologist T.H. Marshall first opened the modern debate about the evolution of full citizenship in modern nation-states, arguing that it proceeded in three stages: from civil rights, to political rights, and finally to social rights. The shortcomings of this model were clear to feminist scholars. As political theorist Carol Pateman argued, the modern social contract undergirding nation-states was from the start premised on an implicit "sexual contract." According to Pateman, the birth of modern democracy necessarily resulted in the political erasure of women. Since the 1990sfeminist historians have realized that Marshall's typology failed to describeadequately developments that affected women in France. An examination of the role of women and gender in welfare-state development suggested that social rights rooted in republican notions of womanhood came early and fast for women in France even while political and economic rights would continue to lag behind. While their considerable access to social citizenship privileges shaped their prospects, the absence of women's formal rights still dominates the conversation. Practiced Citizenship offers a significant re-reading of that narrative. Through an analysis of how citizenship was lived, practiced, and deployed by women in France in the modern period, Practiced Citizenship demonstrates how gender normativity and the resulting constraints placed on women nevertheless created opportunities for a renegotiation of the social and sexual contract"--
