Even after 20 years of children's rights and new thinking about childhood, children are still frequently seen as apolitical. All over the world there has been a growing emphasis on 'participation', but much of this is adult-led, and spaces for children's individual and collective autonomy are limited. "Children, politics and communication" questions many of the conventional ways in which children are perceived. It focuses on the politics of children's communication, in two senses: children as political actors, and the micropolitics of children's interaction with each other and with adults. It looks at how children and young people communicate and engage, how they organise themselves and their lives, and how they deal with conflict in their relationships and the world around them. These are children at the margins, in various ways, but they are not victims; they are finding ways to take charge of their own lives. The book is also about adults and how they can interact with children and young people in ways that are sensitive to children's feelings, empowering and supportive of their attempts to be autonomous. With international contributions from a range of disciplines, "Children, politics and communication" is timely and relevant for policy makers, practitioners and researchers engaging with children and young people.

In this article, I connect political communication with urban politics by conceptualizing an interdisciplinary urban politics research framework. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's theories of practice and communication, I offer an urban politics research model that simultaneously addresses the dimensions of power struggle and symbolic struggle in urban politics. The theoretical modeling is discussed from an interdisciplinary approach to social studies and constructed with a methodological suggestion of tripartite social network analysis.

This article considers recent developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs), including the creation of a so-called 'information superhighway', and examines their relevance to the enhancement of democratic politics. The article begins with a brief overview of what is meant by the 'information superhighway' and what is distinctive about the technologies that comprise it. It then considers the characteristics of democracy and the ways in which information and communication technologies can contribute to their enhancement. It concludes by arguing that ICTs can contribute to democratic processes provided that a number of issues are addressed and barriers overcome.

This article examines the challenges associated with selecting appropriate methodologies and principles for organizing the intricate thematic dimension of professional communication. By employing suitable methods, fragmented knowledge can be synthesized, while the explanatory principle facilitates the identification of essential attributes within a given cluster. The rational application and integration of fundamental scientific principles, concepts, and methodological approaches establish specific criteria for objectively evaluating the construct of a cluster. Clustering is recognized as one of the most effective techniques for segmenting the diverse thematic dimensions of professional communication. The article analyzes the "Politics" cluster as an exemplar within the broader thematic dimensions of professional communication. The clustering process within the thematic dimension aims to encompass an expansive scope with a sense of comprehensive coherence. The model for clustering the thematic dimension provides a range ofconstraints and assumptions crucial in creating appropriate constructs.

This article draws on a series of interviews with members of the Pirate Party, a political party focusing on copyright and information politics, in different countries. It discusses the interviewees' visions of democracy and technology and explains that copyright is seen as not only an obstacle to the free consumption of music and movies but a threat to the freedom of speech, the right to privacy, and a thriving public sphere. The first part of this article briefly sketches how the Pirate Party's commitment to the democratic potential of new communication technologies can be interpreted as a defense of a digitally expanded lifeworld against the attempts at colonization by market forces and state bureaucracies. The book purports to mediate between various culturally determined profiles of the discipline of Communication Studies. While it directs the reader's attention to landmark American texts in intercultural communication, it also signals the potential to make reading a relational praxis, thus writing a way out of the disciplinary meta-narratives of identification. Through its focus on studies which employ critical or (auto)ethnographic methods, the book represents a mediator of cultural meanings. Its unique approach resides in the offering of a personal incursion through the texts under scrutiny, which allows the reader a pathway, a practical orientation towards criticism in general, and the appropriate means to perform it.
