How Successful Is Nation-State?
In: Politicka misao, Band 37, Heft 5, S. 160-173
The paper discusses pro-nationalist authors (D. Miller, A. Oldenquist, M. Canovan) who claim that states formed around a particular ethnocultural nation have been historically successful, in terms of economic success, justice, democracy, & solidarity. It is argued that their claims fail: in typical & well-known cases there is an inverse correlation between the strength of nationalism & the satisfaction of demands of justice, democracy, & solidarity. Some hypotheses about the causes for this inverse relation are proposed. 12 References. Adapted from the source document.
