This article aims to analyze the key elements of Mexico's economic transformation in the current process of globalization. For this, it has been structured in three sections. First a brief summary is made about the process of Import Substitution Industrialization in Mexico. Second, it will be analyzed the transition period of economic policy (1982-1993) that would play a significant role in Mexico's structural change. Finally, with the information obtained, some conclusions will be presented. ; El presente artículo pretende analizar los elementos clave de la transformación económica de México en el actual proceso de globalización. Para ello se ha estructurado de la siguiente manera en tres secciones. Primero se hace un recorrido breve sobre el proceso de Industrialización por Sustitución de Importaciones en México. Segundo, se analiza el periodo de transición de política económica (1982-1993) que tendría un papel significativo en el cambio estructural de México. Por último, con la información obtenida se plantearan algunas conclusiones.

Genocide in Rwanda, massive floods of refugees and displaced people in the Horn of Africa, violent civil wars in the West African countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia - these are testimonies to the tremendous cost to grassroots communities when the authority and legitimacy of national political systems and leaders are called into question. The consolidation of democracy represents one tangible strategy to restore authority and legitimacy of political rule, providing the peace and security necessary for political enfranchisement and economic opportunity. This volume explores the factors that are crucial to the emergence of democratic political systems on the African continent, specifically focusing on Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It highlights the political challenges facing these countries during this crucial transition period, and provides insights that are applicable to other countries engaged in this process in Africa and beyond.

Using a novel data set from post-communist countries in the 1990s, this paper examines linkages between political constraints, economic reforms and growth.A dynamic panel analysis suggests public support for reform is negatively associated with income inequality and unemployment.Both the ex post and ex ante political constraints of public support affect progress in economic reform, which in turn influences economic growth.The findings highlight that while economic reforms are needed to foster growth, they must be designed so that they do not undermine political support for reform.

This paper assesses the effectiveness of the 'post-conflict' political transition process that created the Kabul regime. Specifically, this paper will review and critique the Bonn Agreement and Process--the major driver for Afghanistan's post-conflict transition: assess the current situation in Afghanistan, and examine prospects for Afghan democratization, development and stability. ABSTRACT
Due to its particularities as a nature-based process, agriculture's 'exceptionalism' to capitalist industrialization has garnered much debate. One of the more productive consequences of this debate has been the development of conceptual tools that account for its distinction from typical capital accumulation patterns, such as Goodman, Sorj and Wilkinson's (1987) classic concepts of "appropriationism" and "substitutionism." The advent of agricultural biotechnology is now testing the limits of even these more refined conceptualizations, however, as the technology's associated proprietary framework is reorganizing many traditional agricultural practices. Drawing on empirical examples of biotechnology-induced change—e.g. restrictions on seed saving, grower contracts, and patent infringement lawsuits—this paper argues that there is a need for a new concept in political economy of agriculture theory, which I term "expropriationism." This concept identifies several aspects of an agricultural reorganization premised on legal means to enhance capital accumulation and on separating corporate ownership from liability.

We develop a continuous time dynamic game to provide with a benchmark theory of Arab Spring-type events. We consider a resource-dependent economy with two interacting groups, the elite vs. the citizens, and two political regimes, dictatorship vs. a freer regime. Transition to the freer regime can only be achieved if citizens decide to revolt given the concession/repression policy of the elite. Departing from the related literature, the revolution optimal timing is an explicit control variable in the hands of citizens. The elite is the strategic leader: she ultimately chooses her policy knowing the reaction function of citizens. In this framework, we provide with a full equilibrium analysis of the political regime switching game and notably emphasize the role of the direct switching cost of the citizens and of the elite's self-preservation options. In particular, we show how the incorporation of explicit revolution timing may change the conventional wisdom in the related institutional change literature. Finally, we emphasize how the theory may help explaining some key features of the Arab Spring.

Afghanistan in 2014 will experience a combination of security, political and economic 'transitions', the responses to which will be fundamental in determining the extent of any further displacement of Afghan people over the coming years.
