The Routledge Handbook of Migration and Development provides an interdisciplinary, agenda-setting survey of the fields of migration and development, bringing together over60 expert contributors from around the world to chart current and future trends in research on this topic. The links between migration and development can be traced back to the post-war period, if not further, yet it is only in the last 20 years that the 'migration-development nexus' has risen to prominence for academics and policymakers. Starting by mapping the different theoretical approaches to migration and development, this book goes on to present cutting edge research in poverty and inequality, displacement, climate change, health, family, social policy, interventions, and the key challenges surrounding migration and development. The book introduces the New Keynesian framework, historically through a literature overview and through a step-by-step derivation of a New Keynesian Phillips curve, an intertemporal IS curve, and a targeting rule for the central bank. This basic version is then expanded by introducing cost and demand shocks and uncertainty. The latter enters the model via second order Taylor approximation instead of linearization. Bringing all equations together results in an equilibrium condition which is simulated with a wide range of parameter values, including possible crisis scenarios. The author finds that accounting for uncertainty - regarding growth and inflation expectations - can lead to lower nominal interest rates set by the central bank. The study aims to understand the impact of COVID-19 on citizens' livelihoods, the accessibility and effectiveness of the Government's relief packages, and public confidence and trust in the government responses to the pandemic. The study reveals several important findings as follows. First, the government responses to contain the COVID-19 outbreak have proved to be swift and effective, according to citizens surveyed. This is evident in the respondents' high consensus of strong support for government policy and actions to contain the pandemic. Importantly, people who have positive experiences with their provincial performance in governance and public administration were more supportive of the government's responses during the pandemic. Second, despite such government and citizen responses, the COVID-19 pandemic has generated negative impacts on the Vietnamese citizens and the national economy as a whole. The survey findings reveal that 24 percent of the respondents reported job losses because of the pandemic. These are also 65 percent of the respondents reporting income loss. Third, the findings of the survey reaffirm an overall positive feedback from citizens of and experience with the government's support package. People who received supports from the package were more likely to support the government's responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this paper, we use a rich dataset of several countries to analyze how sound political measures affect cross-border bank flows. Furthermore, our work is the first to comprehensively examine various components of political stability on the aforementioned subject using a larger sample than previous studies, and covering the period 1984&ndash ; 2013. Our paper will inform policy makers which particular aspects of political stability have a significant effect on cross-border bank flows and provide an outline on the favorable long term political and institutional development to increase such flows. We find that sound political measures&mdash ; and therefore, higher political stability&mdash ; increase cross-border bank flows, especially in advanced economies. Moreover, we find that in advanced economies, the political stability components ; socioeconomic conditions, investment profile, corruption within the political system, religious tensions, ethnic tensions, and bureaucracy quality have a positive and close association with such bank flows. In our work, we also find that policies aiming to increase political stability have a stronger impact after the financial crisis of 2008, namely with regard to policies that affect socioeconomic conditions, investment profile, corruption within the political system and religious tensions.

An examination of Russia's relationship with Asian nations contends that, in spite of its size & potential, Russia is in danger of becoming marginalized in Asia just as it has been in Europe. President Vladimir Putin's efforts to secure capital for oil & gas projects from Japan, South Korea, India, & the People's Republic of China have not met with much success even though Russia needs Asian help in order to become competitive. Internal problems that have prevented Russia from forming a partnership with China include geographic & financial restraints related to the development of oil & gas deposits in the Russian Far East; lack of significant economic or political reform; & Russia's dilapidated energy infrastructure. Errors made by the Russian government in its quest for economic assistance from Japan are discussed, along with Russia's willingness to sell arms to "rouge" states in spite of professed concern about proliferation threats. It is concluded that serious corrective measures are needed before Russia will be able to obtain foreign help for regional development. Abstract
Although one third of European citizens depend on rental housing, its legal regulation in residential tenancy law constitutes a nearly blank space in comparative and European Union law. This is due to its national character, its perceived political nature and its embeddedness in widely diverging national housing policies. At the same time, however, EU law and policies from other fields do affect tenancy law significantly, albeit indirectly and with little visibility. The present contribution tries in a first step to take stock of these influences, which range from social policy, competition law, consumer and contract law, conflict of laws, anti-discrimination and environmental law to the European Convention of Human Rights. On this basis, the potential for a European contribution to the field is examined in a second step. As regards European instruments, this contribution advises against legal harmonisation but recommends the extension of the existing open method of coordination mechanism in social policy to tenancy law. At the substantive level, a legal principle of 'socio-economic balance' is sketched out. This means that national legislators, regulators and judges should design viable compromise solutions taking into account party interests as well as macroeconomic and social criteria.

The goal of this paper was to provide a brief over of some of the important measures that were taken in the EU as for the monetary policy of the Eurosystem and the financial assistance mechanisms of the last decade.
