This book presents assumptions about the evolution of a political culture in Vienna and Warsaw and the factors that cause specific patterns of evolution. It explores the secular changes in social structure that are related to changes in cultural normalcy.

Abstract
The concept of Regional Industrialization developed by Rainer Fremdling, Toni Pierenkemper and Richard Tilly is based on a small-scale research approach and composes regions according to criteria of homogeneity. This paper argues that the concept is fruitful in regard to textile regions and their analysis in a long-term perspective from proto-industrialization to the 20th century. It examines relevant factors such as capital, labour, raw materials, transfer of capital, technology and knowledge in order to analyse the specific regional path of growth. Especially the role of migrant pioneer entrepreneurs and the institutional-cultural setting, i.e. the state monopolies of the regional silk and velvet producers are addressed. Mechanisation and the factory system were introduced relatively late in comparison to other regions in the wool and cotton branch of textile industry. But innovations in weaving and energy technology diffused rather rapidly in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and the rural surroundings. The paper shows how the growing textile industry of the left lower Rhine region diversified during the Great Depression of the 1870s-90s and induced forward and backward linkages to the machinery, tool and chemical industries. In all segments of the textile industry in the region (silk, velvet, cotton, wool, synthetics) path dependencies evolved which still have an effect on research institutions and industrial culture today.

Marvin Harris is arguably the most influential, prolific anthropological theorist of our time. This book brings together many of the strands of his work of the past two decades into a unified, contemporary statement on anthropological theory and practice. In this book, he presents his current views on the nature of culture addressing such issues as the mental/behavioral debate, emics and etics, and anthropological holism. He resoundly critiques many current theoretical trends-from sociobiology to postmodernism to Afrocentrism. And he offers a cultural materialist perspective on diverse contemporary issues such as the IQ question and the fall of communism. Harris' thought-provoking and controversial theoretical views will be required reading for all anthropologists, social theorists, and their students.

The author, a Venezuelan anthropologist, provides an incisive overview of the social study of science as an introduction to the journal's volume entitled "Science and Its Cultures." In the postwar decades, scholars largely abandoned the earlier view that science is legitimized by its direct military & industrial applications, & proposed that science was largely insulated from the outside world. Modern issues, such as global climate change have refocused attention on the social aspects of science, while new information technologies have restructured scholarly communications & raised new issues of intellectual property rights. International collaboration has increased, particularly between developed & undeveloped nations. Globalization & regional conflicts have transformed science in ways that its practitioners must address. 1 Figure, 12 References. J. R. Callahan
Lithuanians seem to have rather negative attitude toward various minority groups and it may reflect general intolerance. Police and law enforcement officers should not take up discriminatory position related to some persons as this can affect the professional interactions negatively. The purpose of the study was to evaluate law enforcement students' negative attitude and homophobic reactions toward sexual minorities. A modified Negative Attitudes Toward Gay Men questionnaire (Davies, 2004) was used to survey 174 future law enforcement officers. Results revealed that law enforcement students tend to have a very negative attitude towards sexual minorities and male participants have an extremely negative reactions toward gays compared to lesbians. Personality traits play minor role while the law enforcement officers' gender may play the main role in stereotyping and having an extremely negative affective reactions towards gays and tendency to infringe their civil rights – this tendency is 2,7–4,6 times higher when the future law enforcement officers are male.
