Purpose: This paper considers the relevance of critical and decolonial approaches to global education in northern Europe through theoretical and empirical research. Methodology: We present a case for an approach that engages the modern/colonial dynamic (Mignolo, 2000; Andreotti, 2014) and pluriversality (Mignolo & Walsh, 2018). We conducted a project involving workshops with secondary teachers in England, Finland, and Sweden centred on Andreotti's (2012) HEADSUP tool. We recorded discussions at the workshops and individual interviews after applying the tool in practice. Findings: Teachers are both strategic and reticent in how they take up colonialism when teaching global issues. Wider political contexts and teachers' and students' own experiences with colonialism and racialisation are very much part of how ethical global issues are framed, unpacked, and responded to in classrooms. While there are some significant challenges evident, several teachers deepened their approach and co-produced a teacher resource supporting the application of HEADSUP to classroom practice.

The dominant use of English in every field covering politic, economic, and sosial culture these days has manifested in its gaining a special position in many countries where it is not spoken. In Indonesia, it is a foreign language officially constituted as part of national education curriculum and becomes a requirement in a number of higher education and workforce entry. Yet, ELT in Indonesia faces various constraints including, but is not limited, the anxiousness to threat the purity of Bahasa Indonesia, the national language, and the worry about liberal western values embedded in English to corrupt the youngsters moral and attitudes. Interestingly, Islamic education that maintains a vital role among Indonesians has included English alongside other secular sciences and technology as part of its curriculum in its current advancement. In this regard, the paper will show how critical Islamic education role among Indonesians is, how ELT in Indonesia has developed, what challenges it experiences, and what opportunities it posseses in the context of Indonesian Islamic Education. The paper argues that Islamic education remains the choice of the Indonesian Muslim communities as long as it is able to meet the demands of living in the globalization era while keeping the Islamic values in all the learning process. It further suggests that ELT in Indonesia needs to incorporate Islamic values and show that English learning put no threats and negative influences to Indonesian culture in general and Islamic religious values in particular.

Abstract This article analyzes the evolution in teaching physical education and curriculum in Spain since the first proposals for development that have received the Physical Education teachers with both the first specialized centre for teacher training, the key to its evolution since the mid-nineteenth century to General Management Act 1990 Education System entrusting the teaching of physical education teachers in primary education specialists in the field of Physical Education and which is developed through a Royal Decree of August 30, 1991, establishing the Master degree official in Physical Education and legislation for teacher education Physical education today.

This article is the product of research conducted in the frame of FONDECYT Research Initiation project nº 11140804, entitled "Education and Cultural Racism: Evidence and Discursivities in Agents Who Implement the Bilingual Intercultural Education Program (PEIB)", jointly conducted by the University of Chile's Department of Pedagogical Studies and the University of Sao Paulo's Faculty of Education Postdoctoral Program. The text explores the problem of "cultural racism" in intercultural education programs developed for Mapuche indigenous children in Chile. In order to do so, we first examine the production of subjectivity during the colonial era and later the emergence of ethnic issues in the current government agenda. Our evidence and analysis display how the degradation of indigenous peoples is objectified in the Chilean State's discursive practices, perpetuating social and economic inequality through the production and administration of identities, as well as efficiently controlling ethnic conflicts.

This document examines the background of Afghan education and recent measures taken to establish principles and a framework for development of education and training in the country. It underlines the significance of science and technology for sustainable development of Afghanistan. The document has six chapters. Chapter I considers the evolution of modern education in Afghanistan, with periods of progress and set-backs, and the present situation. Chapter II is reflections on the revival and development of education in Afghanistan and is based on the report of the Independent High Co0mmission for Education (2003), which the author had the honour to chair. Chapter III deals with education goals, priorities and programmes, envisaged in the National Development Strategy, prepared by the government and endorsed at a conference of donors (2006). Chapters IV and V focus on the role of education and science in sustainable development of Afghanistan. Chapter IV discusses the changing concept of development and the importance of its social, cultural and environmental dimensions and international consensus on the need for sustainability. . Chapter V discusses the role of science and technology in economic growth, and the recommendations of the United Nations Task Force on Science, Technology and Innovation (2005) for achievement of the millennium development goals. The present situation of Afghanistan is described, and suggestions made for strengthening education and training in science and technology for sustainable development. In Chapter VI, the author proposes a science policy for Afghanistan. This chapter considers the objectives, policy guidelines and elements of a strategy for the application of science and technology for sustainable development of the country. (DIPF/Orig.)

It is in the context of poverty or information exclusion that the massive dissemination of information and technology tools in Senegalese academic libraries responds to an urgent need for transformation and improvement of operational modes as well as modernization of services for different audiences, in particular students. Currently, in almost all academic and research libraries of Senegal digitization activities that crossed the rise of the Internet are being developed. This has created a real increasing effect of digital resources, by the establishment of means of creation and by expansion of access and of sharing of scientific and technical information in higher education institutions. The development of information technology and communication - the true vectors of documentary practices among Senegalese academic libraries users – together with the growth of digital resources, will inevitably turn the traditional relationship between students and libraries upside down. The objective of this thesis is, therefore, to study the transformation of the librarians' profession, information culture of students, and their use of digital resources, with regard to sociocultural, political, economic, and sociotechnical contexts of Senegal; and in the context of the information society under construction. Thus, through this study, a prospective analysis devoted to the development and the emergence of libraries can be constructed. ; C'est dans un contexte de pauvreté ou d'exclusion informationnelle, que la diffusion massive des outils informatiques et technologiques dans les bibliothèques de l'enseignement supérieur sénégalais, répond à un urgent besoin de transformation et d'amélioration des modes de fonctionnement et de modernisation des services offerts aux différents publics, notamment les étudiants. Actuellement, dans la quasi-totalité des bibliothèques de recherche et d'étude des universités du Sénégal, se développent des activités de numérisation qui ont culminé avec l'essor de l'Internet. Cette situation a engendré un véritable effet amplificateur des ressources numériques, par la mise en place de moyens de création, un accroissement des accès et le partage de l'information scientifique et technique dans les établissements d'enseignement supérieur. En tant que véritables vecteurs de transformation des usages et des pratiques documentaires des usagers dans les bibliothèques de l'enseignement supérieur du Sénégal, le développement des technologies de l'information et de communication, et la croissance des ressources numériques, vont inévitablement bouleverser les rapports traditionnels des étudiants aux bibliothèques. L'objectif de la présente thèse, est, dès lors, d'étudier la transformation de la professionnalité des bibliothécaires, la culture informationnelle des étudiants, et les usages qu'ils font réellement des ressources numériques, au regard des contextes socioculturel, politique, économique et sociotechnique du Sénégal, dans un contexte de société de l'information en construction. Ainsi, pourrons-nous, à travers cette étude, arriver à faire une analyse prospective consacrée au développement et à l'émergence des bibliothèques.

ESD is therefore inherently 'non-disciplinary' and cannot be the basis of a single school subject if we wish to keep the creativity that results from the dynamics at work. On the other hand, SD leads us to think collectively about solutions that ensure a future of our choosing that preserves the biological capacity of the planet and to reduce our vulnerability. The sciences thus have a key role: their ability to question the world and to model the consequences of collective and individual choices. But there is a risk of technocratic drift and SD leads us to think about society's values and aims. A new link is established between sciences and humanities with a democratic model in sight. This paper presents what is possible out of the prospective scenarios method within general and compulsory education by seeking, through an empirical approach, to determine its feasibility, its contributions, its limits, and to locate the place of science education in the elaboration of the perception of " vulnerability ". Both primary and secondary schools are concerned.
