Developing nations comprise economically-weak societies, where a large portion of the population struggle to secure their daily basic needs. International hotel chains are often welcomed in such countries, with the expectation that their operations will contribute towards socio-economic development. However, experience has so far indicated that such investment has not contributed to the betterment of the residents' lives. Hence, there is growing demand, by many advocate groups and society at large, for corporations to benefit the communities in which they operate. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is increasingly used as a way for international hotel chains to give back to society. Based on this premise, the aim of this chapter is to analyse CSR practices and the way they are implemented in the following five hotels parts of international hotel chains: a) The Royal Oasis; b) The Navarra Hotel Haiti - El Rancho; c) The Best Western Premier; d) Marriott International; and e) the Marriott Port-au-Prince. All are in Haiti, Caribbean, a post-colonial and post-disaster tourism destination. The study is based on a qualitative, exploratory, content analysis of secondary data, derived from the websites of the five hotel chains. The analysis indicates that the hotels exercise various CSR initiatives, which could also benefit the country as a whole if they were closely aligned with its broader economic, social, and environmental imperatives. The study concludes that the Haitian Government should have a paramount role in the design and implementation of CSR initiatives used by international hotel chains operating in Haiti. On the one hand, this might represent a barrier to entry for hospitality investments into the country. On the other hand, it could be an effective way for the government to predetermine and gauge the responsibility of hospitality investment in host communities.

The aim of the article was to clarify the essence of the strategic deterrence and to characterize the deterrent mechanisms used to shape international security. The article explains the nature of the deterrent and mechanisms to guarantee international security. It presents the genesis of deterrence and characterizes its evolution. It also indicates the need for changes in the theory and practice of deterrence. As a result of the studies, it has been established that, nowadays, thanks to the complementary use of hard and soft power, strategic deterrence has a multi-faceted character and its importance for international relations is increasing. It is closely linked to diplomacy and constitutes a mechanism, by means of which the foreign political interests of states are realized and the international security order is shaped.

Abstract This article reviews three classic texts of the French, American-Realist and English schools in International Relations, namely Tout Empire Périra (Duroselle 1992), Politics Among Nations (Morgenthau 1948), and Power Politics (Wight 1978). I argue that Wight's approach can be regarded as a middle course between those of Duroselle and Morgenthau, and that Wight adopted this position in order to associate himself with important assumptions by both Duroselle and Morgenthau. In particular, there are similarities between Wight's concept of 'international revolution' and Duroselle's notion of the 'unbearable.' Both are critical of behavioural methods, and both search for recurrences in international relations. As regards Morgenthau, Wight shares with him a Realist view of international anarchy, a classical understanding of 'national interest,' and an understanding of ideologies as the legitimation of government actions.

Current transferred patterns of inter-governmental cooperation between various regions are marking out a standard in international public policies of migration. In order to clarify the process & ambition of such mutual borrowing, this article reappraises national public policy concepts as a support to understand international migration policies. These public policy investigation methods facilitate figuring out how such transfer paradigms function; thus various ground rules can be identified: actors, the dissemination of ideas from one country or institution to another. It also positions such transfer as a transitional aim for policy convergence & towards a global governance for international migration. Figures. Adapted from the source document.
