Two broad conclusions are reached in this study about Egypt's economic policy since 1974: The first asserts that the international pressures that so often try to instigate a more market-oriented, decentralized economy, when accompanied by generous foreign aid, in fact lessen the probability of economic reform. The second is that for reform to be implemented successfully, the Mubarak government must either employ more political repression or introduce grater democratization. (DÜI-Hns)
