The article shows the transformation that Grodno underwent in the 18th century in the light of accounts of peregrinates from Western Europe. In the first half of the century, a provincial, uninteresting Lithuanian town reluctantly visited by Western European travelers, in the second half of the century gained significantly a power of attraction. To a large extent, the city owed its transformation to Lithuanian Court Treasurer Antoni Tyzenhauz, which the travelers emphasized unanimously. The change in the face of the city was also reflected in eighteenth-century Western European publications.

One of the aspects of the principle of separation of powers in the state is control of the executive by the legislature. As regards the Polish lands in the early nineteenth century, we can speak about Polish parliamentarism only in the Duchy of Warsaw, the Kingdom of Poland and the Republic of Cracow. Although these states did not recognize the principle of parliamentary accountability, their parliaments voiced criticism of the authorities and there occurred the problem of controlling the executive. Parliament of the Duchy of Warsaw tried to usurp this right itself. Parliament of the Kingdom of Poland claimed the right to charge a civil officer of the government with crimes committed while in office. In that state the ability to control emerged during the November Uprising. In the Republic of Cracow all attempts at obtaining the right of control encountered the objection on the part of three supervising neighbours (Russia, Prussia, and Austria).

The aim of the article is to describe the use of selected methods of cluster analysis – hierarchical and non-hierarchical – to assess the member states of the European Union due to health and safety conditions of work. The analysis is based on data of the European Working Conditions Survey. Based on the answers given by the respondents for the health and well-being were constructed six diagnostic features. Assess working conditions were made using methods Ward and k-average. The use of the two methods yielded very similar results. Only in the case of two of the 27 countries included in the analysis, there were clear differences in the allocation to the respective groups.

Despite a certain degree of chaos characterizing the Polish political arena, Polish society can be said to be capable of relatively accurate categorization of political parties with respect to their position in the left – right spectrum; two thirds of society are also able to identify their own views in this respect. What differentiates Polish society from Western European societies, though, is the lack of correlation between ones'position in the social structure and ideology, as well as the negligible importance of economic matters in one's identification as a left – right winger. The emergence of two strong political parties referring to themselves as right-wing (Civic Platform – PO and Law and Justice – PiS), accompanied by the weakening of the left of the political arena in Poland has resulted in this tendency becoming even stronger. ; Despite a certain degree of chaos characterizing the Polish political arena, Polish society can be said to be capable of relatively accurate categorization of political parties with respect to their position in the left – right spectrum; two thirds of society are also able to identify their own views in this respect.
