The question of what it means and implies to be human is fundamental to both philosophy and society. At the same time, she runs the risk of being answered with phrases. Even today, various questions about humanity are posed: Can humanity be delimited biologically or in its ways of life from other species or artificial creatures? How do people differ from people? Are language ability or free will essential features of being human? These and other questions were discussed intensively during the 10th Congress of the Austrian Society for Philosophy. This anthology presents a selection of contributions. - Die Frage, was es besagt und impliziert, Mensch zu sein, ist sowohl für die Philosophie als auch für die Gesellschaft eine fundamentale. Zugleich läuft sie Gefahr, mit Floskeln beantwortet zu werden. Auch heute stellen sich verschiedene Fragen zum Menschsein: Lässt sich die Menschheit biologisch oder in ihren Lebensformen von anderen Spezies oder künstlichen Wesen sinnvoll abgrenzen? Worin unterscheiden sich Menschen von Personen? Sind etwa Sprachfähigkeit oder der freie Wille wesentliche Merkmale des Menschseins? Diese und weitere Fragen wurden im Rahmen des 10. Kongresses der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Philosophie intensiv diskutiert. Dieser Sammelband präsentiert eine Auswahl der Beiträge.

Die Außenpolitik von Weimar stellt die größte politische Leistung dieser ersten, aus verschiedenen Ursachen gescheiterten Republik dar, in der es doch nur in einem Punkt zu allgemeiner Übereinstimmung kam: der Ablehnung des Vertrags von Versailles. Trotz der Feindschaft gegen »Versailles« war es dieser Republik mit ihren kurzlebigen Kabinetten aber gelungen, eine Außenpolitik zu entwickeln, die eine weitgehende Revision dieses Vertragswerks erreichte. -- Die Außenpolitik von Weimar ist mit dem Namen Gustav Stresemann untrennbar verbunden. Ein kürzlich aufgefundener Quellenbestand macht deutlich, was die Experten schon lange wussten: Carl von Schubert hat als langjähriger Staatssekretär des Auswärtigen Amtes gemeinsam mit Gustav Stresemann eine Schlüsselrolle in dieser Politik wahrgenommen. Mit diplomatischer Erfahrung, analytischem Scharfsinn und stupender Arbeitskraft prägte Carl von Schubert die Politik und das von ihm geleitete Auswärtige Amt. -- Was Stresemann und Schubert verband war die politische Grundeinstellung zur deutschen Außenpolitik als Westpolitik. Die Suche nach Ausgleich und Zusammenarbeit mit dem Westen stand im Vordergrund, ohne jedoch die berechtigten Sicherheitsinteressen der Sowjetunion zu vernachlässigen. Diesen Aspekt erachteten sie als Grunderfordernis deutscher Politik in der Mitte Europas.
