IntroductionData-intensive health research is a fast moving field in which public involvement and engagement (PI\&E) is essential for developing socially acceptable and ethically robust processes and ensuring a social license for research practices. Nevertheless while some consensus is emerging around the importance of PI\&E, commitments and practices are varied.
Objectives and ApproachOur objective was to identify a set of principles which would underpin international best practice in data-intensive health research.
A one-day consensus workshop was held in Manchester, U.K. in April 2017 and attended by 31 international participants from six countries, with a range of expertise relating to PI&E with data-intensive health research. Participants took part in facilitated discussions to identify key principles and a consensus statement was written to reflect the discussions at the workshop, this developed through iterative drafts on which all workshop participants as well as the four Farr Institute public panels were consulted.
ResultsThe consensus statement sets out key principles to establish a secure role for PI&E related to data-intensive health research internationally and to ensure best practice in its execution. While methods used may not vary greatly from PI&E with other types of research, or other policy areas, we have identified a number of particular features of data-intensive health research which make PI&E in this area worthy of special consideration. Often using data from multiple sources without explicit consent, PI&E in data-intensive health research is particularly important for raising awareness, for giving people a voice and for enabling people to participate in processes of research and governance. The consensus statement sets out the key principles to guide future best practice in PI&E with data-intensive health research.
Conclusion/ImplicationsThe emergence of data intensive health research and the importance of the social contract upon which it relies, demands that we move beyond rhetorical commitments and engage anew with clearly stated principles to build PI\&E into data-intensive health research at all levels.

It depicts the process of trial and error in the extensive case law of the International Court of Justice and arbitral tribunals and expounds the underlying principles and factors informing the methodology both in adjudication and negotiations. This article explores the relationships among time, organizational, and national cultural distance in an international joint venture setting. More particularly, the extent to which the longevity of an international joint venture affects the intensity of its cultural differences, is investigated in a sample of 51 international joint ventures set up in Hungary. It addresses certain mechanisms available to an international joint venture's managers and to its partners to deal with cross-cultural issues. The results suggest that the temporal dimension is a cultural moderator of prime importance, but to be totally effective, it must be combined with a willful strategy of cultural integration.

The object of this paper is to show the contribution of J.-M. Keynes about the international standard of measure. Part one emphasizes the importance of the unit of account and the standard — which measures the stability of the former — in a monetary economy. In part two, the orthodox theory about international standard of measure, i.e. purchasing power parity, is studied. Part three describes the contributions of Clearing Union's project about the unit of account and the standard in international economy. J.-M. Keynes has a unitary theory of the money of account. It results from this a conceptual rupture between national economy and international economy.

The International Law Association Study Group on the Conduct of Hostilities in the 21st Century was established in 2011 and held its first meeting in 2012. The Study Group has explored numerous issues arising from the relationship between international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law in the conduct of military operations, technological challenges posed by new weapons systems, and the basic principles of IHL in the conduct of hostilities. In 2015, the Study Group established three working groups focusing on core issues within IHL in relation to the conduct of hostilities in modern warfare. These working group topics were military objectives, the principle of proportionality, and precautions in attacks. Each of these working group reports contributed to this final report, which the Study Group presented at the 77th International Law Association Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa on August 7–11, 2016. ; Full list of authors can be found in PDF.

Minority Rights and Humanitarianism: The International Campaign for the Ukrainians in Poland, 1930–1931 In October 1930, violent actions of the Polish security forces against the Ukrainian population in Eastern Galicia resulted in an international campaign for the Ukrainians in Poland. Its central claim was the condemnation of these incidents as a violation of the Minorities Treaty of the League of Nations. The article focuses on the involved British extra-parliamentary groups and their international federations as well as leftist intellectuals, socialist parties and the Labour and Socialist International. In most cases, the commitment of the activists was motivated by the desire to expose a humanitarian scandal while the implementation of minority rights played a minor role. When it turned out that the first reports had presented an exaggerated version of the events, they shifted their focus to the Polish opposition, whose persecution started in November 1930.

This book reviews issues about the quality of the environment in relation to agriculture, and relates them to agricultural trade and competition. It focuses primarily on the key environmental and human-health issues (e.g., pollution from agriculture, the quality of landscapes, animal welfare, and food safety) affecting agriculture in the EU, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It also reviews the policy measures and standards established in these countries. The book contains 11 chapters and a subject index.

Though general interest in the advisory opinions of the Permanent Court of International Justice has waned of late because of the decline in the Court's advisory activity and the dormancy of the question of American adherence, there are questions relating to the advisory work of the Court which still command the interest of the serious student. On January 26, 1937, the Council of the League referred to the special committee set up to study the application of the principles of the Covenant the question of the conditions of voting requests for advisory opinions. As appears from the observations of governments as well as from the discussions in the Council and Assembly, the question of the vote necessary to a request for an advisory opinion raises the larger question of the nature of advisory opinions.

Through the intermediary of Albert Thomas, the General Director of the International Labour Office, the International Cooperative Alliance expressed the desire in 1919 to see the International Labour Organization include representatives of national cooperative organizations. The ILO was barely set up and tripartism celebrated as a major innovation when they were already challenged. This article analyzes the conditions under which the cooperative movement was evicted from the ILO, and the simultaneous claim of the international cooperative movement for a "direct and separate representation" within the ILO. It looks at the setting up of various mechanisms from 1919 until 1948 which resulted in the establishment of a consultative relationship between the cooperative movement and the ILO, before the creation and the granting of the actual consultative status to the international cooperative movement.
