The contributors to this volume take up the theme of instructed and instructive actions. Studies of instructions and the actions of following them provide empirical content to the classical theoretical issue of how rules, norms, and other normative guidelines are conveyed, understood, and used for producing social actions and structures

This book focuses on the impact of social stigma on adolescents who are at high risk of teen pregnancy. It describes and discusses personal and social factors that predispose them to becoming pregnant and having babies; factors that may subsequently protect or more often, compromise outcomes for both parents and children. The authors, who represent a range of social roles and perspectives, describe the pathways from stigma and its unfounded beliefs about disadvantaged adolescents, to the ways stress burdens teen parents and their children. They note that successful teen parents often go unrecognized and wonder how many more are hobbled by stigma. They recognize the lifespan impacts of stress as described in the ACE studies; stress that has psychological, health and economic implications at individual and social levels. They examine the impact of stigma on parent-child relationships and the attachment system, a stress management system, learned in infancy and persisting into adulthood. The book describes how stigma finds its way into daily interpersonal encounters, systemic policies and practices, and even into healthcare research and services. This sets the stage for an in-depth look at attachment systems within stress management, interventions, and recommendations for professionals whose work is impacted by these issues. Written by experts in the field, this text is the first to cover the current understanding of the risk factors, advanced understanding of developmental issues, and the key intervention tactics for the most positive outcome for adolescent parents and their families. Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting is an excellent resource for psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, social workers, educators, researchers, and policy makers working with youths at risk for teenage pregnancies

Focusing on the role of disenfranchised citizens and women, this collection broadens the themes of traditional political historical research that has identified political participation with the right to vote and struggles for political inclusion, and brings a wide array of formal and informal political practices to the centre of nineteenth-century European life. A must-read for scholars, undergraduates, and graduate students wishing to explore multiple dimensions of the history of political engagement and politicisation
"Ageing of the Oppressed: A Pandemic of Intersectional Injustice explores what it is like to grow older with accumulating and intersecting discrimination. It condemns ageism and other "isms." Despite its visibility during the COVID-19 pandemic, ageism is not a new phenomenon but one that has been ignored for too long by policymakers and the general population. The negative language used to describe population ageing adds fuel to the fire by filling people's minds with ageist images that permeate all levels and sectors of society. We should all be recognized as full human rights holders, no matter our age, ability, disability, gender or sexual orientation, race, or socio-economic or any other status. This book combines theoretical models and academic essays by top experts with the real-life experience of older persons and activists. It is a must-read for advocates for human rights; policymakers; service providers; students of social and health sciences, the humanities, and law; and anybody willing to challenge assumptions and practices. The proposed UN Convention on the human rights of older persons will be a step forward to providing older persons with a remedy for daily and often life-long oppression"--
The Customs Valuation Agreement, authored by a world-renowned specialist lawyer in the field, is a highly knowledgeable analysis furnishing the most extensive study of the origins and architecture of the Customs Valuation Agreement and its intersection with transfer pricing norms. Customs valuation is a critical element in the corpus of international trade law. Although the WTO Valuation Agreement 1994 remains unchanged in all material respects and has been adopted by virtually every trading nation on the planet, there are fissures in the system preventing consensus on many contentious questions. This unique book concentrates on diverging views on the nature of the central feature of the Agreement, the definition of the price actually paid or payable (PAPP). Inter alia, the author thoroughly explains differing views on the following questions: criteria governing royalties and license fees; acceptability of the First Sale for Export doctrine; role of transport charges in valuing dutiable assists; status of interest payments on deferred payments; valuation of carrier media-bearing software for data processing equipment; inclusion or exclusion of transport charges in the PAPP; status of the WTO's moratorium on electronic transmissions; status of payments of money for tools and other materials used in producing the imported goods; and status of international instruments of traffic. Proficiently, the author analyzes interpretations of the Valuation Agreement as presented in the instruments of the World Customs Organization and the administrative and judicial fora of the United States, Canada, and the European Union
"Financial advisor and founder of RUNWAY lifts up historically undervalued Black entrepreneurs and proves the worth of eschewing traditional venture capitalist for community-based investors and partners. Believe-in-You Money is a call to action to move away from extractive, individualistic, exploitative approaches to capital and entrepreneurship. It asks us to instead move toward transformational, restorative, regenerative, interdependent relationships, to repair the impacts of the systemic racism and implicit biases that create barriers for Black entrepreneurs' success and widen the wealth gap. This book is for Black founders who keep running up against a process that is secretive and won't allow them to reach their potential and for the people wanting to invest in them as an act of racial justice and repair. It is an exploration of imagination and joy as much as it is about finance, offering a shift in the way we think about who can be an investor and aiming to change our personal relationships with money"--
