"This book critically investigates the historiography of International Relations. For the past fifteen years, the field has witnessed the development of a strong interest in the history of the discipline. The chapters in this edited volume, written by some of the field's preeminent disciplinary historians, all manifest the best of an innovative and exciting generation of scholarship on the history of the discipline of International Relations. One of the objectives of this volume is to take stock of the historical turn. Yet this volume is not simply a stock-taking exercise, as it also intends to identify the limitations and blind spots of the recent historiographical literature. This article investigates trust between politicians and public officials in local government. Beginning with Svara's claim that such relations are characterized by complementarity, we point to the importance of trust as the micro foundation for these relationships. Applying a mixed-methods strategy, we investigate a number of factors we expect to be related to the level of trust between politicians and public officials, as perceived by the latter. We find that the communication climate and a clear distribution of tasks correlate positively with trust, whereas an unstable environment correlates negatively with trust.

RationaleVaccination willingness is a critical step in the effort to reach herd immunity and control the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, many people remain reluctant to be vaccinated.ObjectiveIntegrating the literature on Self-Determination Theory, trust in authorities, and conspiracy theories, this research examines (a) the direct and indirect effect of government trust and conspiracism via underlying forms of motivations for (not) getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and (b) whether these associations differ across the two largely politically independent Belgian linguistic groups.MethodsUsing Structural Equation Modeling, we tested our models in two independent samples, in February 2021 (T1) and April 2021 (T2) (Total N = 8264).ResultsAt T1 and T2, Government trust and conspiracism both predict COVID-19 vaccination intention, respectively positively and negatively. These relations are fully mediated by motivational factors, with identified motivations having a larger positive contribution. Looking at linguistic context, differences emerge at T2, with French-speaking Belgians showing lower levels of government trust and higher levels of conspiracism than Dutch speakers.ConclusionsResults highlight the importance of integrating distal (trust in government, conspiracism) and proximal (motivational) variables to understand vaccination intentions. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/published

This paper explores the role of local government in urban regeneration in England. The first part describes local-central government relations during recent decades. It concludes that 'actually occurring' regeneration fuses top-down and bottom-up priorities and preferences, as well as path dependencies created by past decisions and local relations. The second part illustrates this contention by examining the regeneration of inner-city Salford over a 25-year period. It describes Salford City Council's approach in achieving the redevelopment of the former Salford Docks and how this created the confidence for the council to embark on further regeneration projects. Yet the top-down decision-making model has failed to satisfy local expectations, creating apathy which threatens the Labour government's desire for active citizens in regeneration projects.

The aim of this paper is to identify the actors and factors which are important for effective and efficient functioning of local government. With a view to presenting the features of local government Japan has been selected as case for the study, in terms of legal authority, political parties, negotiation in budget process, inter-transfer of officials and decentralization of more power to local government, authority and process of recruitment, training of personnel, financial autonomy and transparency and ratio of revenue to be spent by the local government. The problems of local government in Bangladesh are also identified in relation to the above factors and some policies are recommended to resolve them.

Demokratik yönetim şekilleri ise halkın doğrudan veya dolaylı olarak yönetenleri seçmiş olduğu, seçenlerin seçilenler karşısında temel hak ve özgürlüklerinin belirli organlar vasıtası ile korunduğu, devletin temel organları olan yasama, yürütme ve yargı erklerinin birbirleri ile olan ilişkilerinin bu bağlamda anayasalarla düzenlendiği sistemlerdir. Literatürde demokratik yönetim sistemleri temel olarak kuvvetler ayrılığı ilkesi çerçevesinde sınıflandırılarak incelenmektedir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti de dünyadaki yönetim sistemlerindeki değişime paralel olarak kuvvetler ayrılığı ilkesi çerçevesinde değişime uğramıştır. Bu doğrultuda 16 Nisan 2017 tarihinde gerçekleştirilen referandumla anayasa değişikliğine gidilmiş ve parlamenter sistemi terk edilerek cumhurbaşkanlığı sistemine geçilmiştir. Bu alanda yapılacak olan akademik çalışmalar yeni yürürlüğe giren bu sistemin aksayan yönlerinin görülmesini sağlayarak bu sistemin daha iyi çalışmasına katkı sunacaktır. Bu tezin temel amacı; Türkiye'de siyaset alanı ve kamuoyunda uzun bir süre konu olan hükümet sistemi tartışmalarının gerçek nedenlerini tespit etmek, yeni yürürlüğe giren cumhurbaşkanlığı hükümet modelinde yasama, yürütme ve yargı erklerinin anayasal yetki ve görevlerini kuvvetler ayrılığı ilkesi çerçevesinde dünyadaki örnekleri ile karşılaştırmalı olarak incelemek, demokratiklik bağlamında olumlu ve olumsuz yanlarını tespit etmektir. This article examines the individual complaint‐taking role of the Australian Commonwealth Ombudsman over a 28 year period between 1977–2005. This study was conceived through a curiosity to determine how a 30 year old administrative law institution is reacting to accommodate a dramatically altered legal, political and economic environment. The suspicion was that, in the absence of legislative amendment to its jurisdiction and role, the Commonwealth Ombudsman must strategically change due to the demands of these external forces. The overall quantitative finding from the data analysis is that the internal strategic direction of the Commonwealth Ombudsman is indeed altering. In terms of dispute resolution it is increasingly using its discretionary powers to turn individual complainants back to government departments/agencies. The data analysis reveals that this administrative law institution is shifting from a reactive individual complaint taker to a proactive standard setter for government administration. This article suggests that this movement may impact upon citizen 'rights' or perceptions of their rights to have their individual complaints heard against government. This in turn may have a ripple effect for notions of democratic accountability and the relationship between the citizen and the state.
