Construction projects encounter myriad problems, some of which may be connected to the project delivery model. Integrated project delivery (IPD) is an approach that removes the gap between the planning and the construction stages of a project. Various barriers to implementation exist within the construction industry and these can be resolved by effective solutions. Identifying and classifying these solutions is considered essential for successful project delivery. In this context, this study aims to illustrate and classify the solutions that have been proposed since the introduction of IPD as a new approach for the implementation of construction projects. In this study, a meta-synthesis approach has been used as a qualitative method, and pattern and descriptive coding and analysis have been used to analyse the data. The solutions analysed in the meta-synthesis suggest that all stakeholders—including designers, construction engineers, construction team members and operation and maintenance team members—each have the same responsibility to improve IPD and meet the project goals. This study is significant because it suggests important resolutions to the barriers to IPD implementation and may help construction industry stakeholders better facilitate IPD and enhance clauses of their contracts.

AbstractOver the past few years, academics have undertaken initiatives to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the ever‐growing field of business analytics, including implementing real‐life student projects in all shapes and forms. Every year since 2015, Manhattan College has invited student teams from across North America and elsewhere in the world to its campus in order to participate in an intercollegiate business analytics competition (BAC@MC). This well‐received event and the objectives behind it are described in this article. The program is shown to serve as an effective experiential learning adventure for the undergraduate students as it hones their data analytic skills in the context of an engaging real‐world business problem. The roles various stakeholders play in this high‐impact practice are highlighted. Furthermore, an example of a recent competition question is presented (along with a summary of the analytical approaches attempted) by the student teams. Descriptive visualizations, regression, and cluster algorithms implemented using python, R, Excel, or Tableau are among the typical analyses utilized by participating students. As witnessed by the students, faculty advisors, and the industry practitioners who attended the event, competitions such as BAC@MC can be rewarding, community‐building, and transformative experiences for undergraduate students who will soon become tomorrow's business analysts.

PurposeEach time there is a government change (indeed a very frequent scenario for Italy), and the leadership team of strategic offices and operations in the public administration is usually replaced. Using the job crafting theoretical framework, the purpose of this study is to investigate how the uncertainty generated by changes in the leadership teams of public offices shapes the public managers' coping strategies.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts a deductive qualitative approach. Data for this study were collected through 47 interviews conducted with public managers working at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.FindingsThe results of the study suggest that job crafting – a proactive approach aimed at customizing the content and nature of one's job – represents a frequent strategy that public managers undertake, drawing on the personal and contextual resources at their disposal, to reduce perceived uncertainty associated with manager transition.Originality/valueQuestions related to the positive or negative impact of managerial transitions generated conflicting opinions in the literature. The authors demonstrate that job crafting could represent a valuable strategy adopted by executive managers to cope with increasing uncertainty associated with managerial transition due to government change, especially when these strategies enable to gain valuable personal and contextual resources for managers.

As a key force to carry out the technology transfer, more and more colleges and universities have set up specific departments for promoting technology transfer vigorously. Due to the strong professionalism and specialized application fields, universities with geological industry characteristics need to set up specialized internal technology transfer organizations to carry out the operation and management of patented technologies and the technology transfer. Promoting the technology transfer of the university based on early technology sifting requires the excavation and promotion by professional technology teams. China has successively introduced policies to encourage technology managers to participate in serving the technology transfer. Universities have set up offices for the technology transfer, built teams of technology managers and carried out the practice of serving the technology transfer. This study focuses on advantageous geological engineering directions, locating potential technology fields, summarizing technology application bases, taking stock of technology achievement accumulation, and basically completing early technology sifting through market value assessment and transformation prospect analysis. It supports and cultivates high-value achievements by setting up transformation fund, coordinates with pilot validation, introduces achievements to the market, and promotes them extensively, which eventually leads to the technology transfer.

AbstractThe year 2020 saw the world turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic. Countless human activities were suspended or cancelled as the virus spread across the globe. In this paper, we show how the regular season matches of Ecuador's professional football league were rescheduled due to the disruption caused by the pandemic. As with many others, this league had to reschedule its remaining games to fit within in a much shorter period of time than originally planned. To address this problem, we developed two mathematical models that designed new match calendars. The first one, a round assignment model, rescheduled the various rounds in the season still to be played while the second one, a day assignment model, took the solutions of the first model as input to assign the matches within each round to specific days. The implementation of our models secured a well-balanced number of days off before each match across all of the teams. Also, it enabled the league to conclude a full season without cancelling any matches or changing the schedule format, unlike what occurred in many other leagues, and won the approval of all stakeholders including league officials, players, team coaches, the TV broadcaster and fans.

ABSTRACT This exploratory descriptive research aims to analyze the implementation of the School Health Program in the Federal District, in the period before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data were produced from February to April 2022 through documentary research and application of an online questionnaire with professionals from the Primary Health Care (PHC) teams within the scope of the Primary Care Qualification Program of the Federal District-QualisAPS. The databases of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira, the Information System for Primary Care and the QualisAPS Platform were accessed on the actions developed from 2018 to 202, the structuring of the program, and its inclusion in the action plans of family health and oral health teams. Through descriptive statistics and content analysis it was evident an increase in the adhesion of schools to the PSE and a predominance of records related to oral health and vaccine verification, in both periods, with quantitative reduction due the pandemic period. The reality of the Federal District reveals that the interrelation of the Program with PHC and the support of QualisAPS enable a continuous planning process, bringing prospects for strengthening the actions.

This article reflects on two exhibitions, in 2018 and 2019, about the Nazi persecution of German Sinti and Roma. One was produced by an Anglo-German curatorial team and toured Britain and Continental Europe. The second was designed by South Korean curators and installed temporarily in a gallery in downtown Seoul. The two exhibitions drew on the same photographic archive, narrated the persecution histories of Romani subjects of the photographs, and used the story of their relationship with the non-Romani photographer to ask questions about responsibility and to prompt visitors to reflect on their own status as "implicated subjects" in contemporary forms of discrimination. Given different expectations of the level of knowledge that visitors bring to the exhibition and different communicative tools familiar to them (the Seoul curators included creative artists), the two curatorial teams took very different approaches to informing and moving their audiences – and to meeting the recognized challenges of representing Romani history and identity – not least in the ways in which the exhibition's message was mediated in face-to-face conversations on site. The aesthetic approach adopted in Seoul did not fully succeed in maintaining the balance between explanation and exoticization. The evaluation relies on visitor surveys (quantitative and qualitative) and interviews with guides.

AbstractAfter Juneteenth, formerly enslaved African Americans in Texas founded hundreds of historic Black settlements known as freedom colonies. Later, freedom colonies' populations dispersed, physical traces disappeared, and memories of locations vanished as descendants passed away. In the absence of buildings and legally recognized borders, intangible heritage—stories, ephemeral traditions—define a sense of place. Betraying the perception that these places have disappeared, founders' descendants express commitments to freedom colonies by returning periodically to plan commemorative events, rehabilitate historic structures, and steward cemeteries. The Texas Freedom Colonies Project (The TXFC Project), a team of faculty and student researchers, documents settlements while supporting descendant communities' historic preservation aims. By making diasporic publics legible and increasing the visibility of communities' settlement patterns and remaining extant features, The TXFC Project elevates stakeholders' concerns in urban planning domains. In 2020, COVID-19's social distancing requirements challenged diasporic descendants' efforts to foster social cohesion. Consequently, The TXFC Project hosted a Facebook Live "talk show," leveraging social media platforms to amplify freedom colony descendants' work. The team analyzed event transcripts revealing cultural adaptations to socially restrictive conditions during Juneteenth commemorations and indicating that virtual storytelling helped territorialize widely dispersed, unbounded places for stakeholders facing natural and human-made disruptions.

Professional and amateur sport throughout the world experienced an industry-wide disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial stage of the pandemic required the postponement of leagues and games, until athletic events were resumed without fans. This disruption required the sport industry to adapt and supply substitute products to engage users without the access to the primary product, live sport. In this study, we compare how a North American league (National Basketball Association) and a European league (English Premier League) adapted to these changes using social media to engage with fans. We examine changes in the volume of Tweets and engagements with official team Twitter posts. Our data contain categorical control variables accounting for different stages of the pandemic. This includes when games were canceled for health and safety reasons, when play was resumed in a bubble format, in-season periods, and offseason periods. Examining social media engagement during these periods is a unique opportunity to compare team (supply) strategies and fan reactions (demand) to a disruption, and to explore the longer-term implications such as expanded engagement after the disruption has ended or when its effects have lessened.

This practice article describes the use of collaborative evaluation for institutional improvement leading to continuous learning at a regional university in Australia. The University of Southern Queensland's Academic Quality Framework (2019–2022) was developed in response to external drivers to improve practices relating to the comprehensive and systematic analysis of academic data. One aspect of the response was to introduce 'course enhancement conversations', which were a collaboration between the central Academic Quality Unit and academic staff, including course teams and learning and teaching leaders within schools and faculties. A feature of these conversations was the use of sentinel rather than performance indicators of course (not teaching) quality to prompt the holding of conversations. Conversations were conducted in a spirit of constructive collaboration, where the shared goal was to support course teams to deliver an outstanding student experience. Through adopting a collaborative approach to evaluation, Academic Quality Unit staff were evaluation champions who gradually acculturated academic staff and learning and teaching leaders to evaluative thinking and data-informed decision-making. Issues brought to light during these conversations have informed changes in practice at the university level, including the development of a new evaluation procedure to embed best-practice monitoring and evaluation across all levels of curriculum delivery.

PurposeThis paper relays the process the authors used to develop a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework in the emergency services team at Australian Red Cross. The paper aims to provide useful information and guidance to support others to build and improve their M&E frameworks, which are fundamental for guiding achievement of department or organisational goals.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses a case study to describe the participatory agile methodology applied to develop the framework. The completed framework includes indicators mined from pre-existing literature and highlights the benefits of using an agile and participatory approach to cultivate user buy-in, enhance operational relevance and create timely results.FindingsDevelopment of the M&E framework streamlined measurement across the team, improved programmatic strategic alignment, identified gaps in data collection and promoted utilisation of evaluative information. Additionally, it was an exercise in evaluation capacity building, with many process uses, which positively influenced the implementation stage.Originality/valueThere are very few scholarly papers that outline the process taken to develop M&E frameworks, and none in the humanitarian, emergency services field. Additionally, this paper offers an innovative use of agile in facilitating a collaborative, sustainable and meaningful framework.

Although far fewer women exercise regularly than men, one women-dominated sport growing in popularity internationally is roller derby. A limited number of predominantly US-based and qualitative studies have explored roller derby. This Scotland-based qualitative study explored reasons for women starting, continuing, and stopping participation in roller derby in order to inform people involved in promoting physical activity for health benefits. Semi-structured interviews with six participants from a Scottish women's roller derby league were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data analysis using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis generated five super-ordinate themes. Most participants learned about roller derby from watching the sport on film, attending a bout (game), or word of mouth. The main motivators and benefits of participating in this sport were found to be challenge, enjoyment, increased confidence, health benefits, and motivation to exercise. Participants were empowered by involvement and motivated by community, team spirit, and support to develop. Despite high commitment, some women could not sustain team involvement due to barriers such as injury, changing life roles, and conflicting commitments—a lack of support was described when this happened. Greater inclusivity is needed to enable changing levels of participation as women's commitments change, to facilitate ongoing health benefits and inspire others.

The design processes of an aircraft are highly complex and involve a large number of multidisciplinary teams. The current organizational, methodological and technological model, based on concurrent engineering working methods, creates a gap between functional design engineering and industrial design engineering. Such gap is both at the information management level and at communication level, and creates inefficiencies in the working processes. Airbus Military launched the CALIPSOneo project to investigate how to improve the current industrialization design processes and to facilitate a collaborative working environment to the multidisciplinary design teams. As a result of the CALIPSOneo project, PLM tools were adapted to develop working methods based on collaborative engineering, and particularly to develop the industrial Digital Mock-Up (iDMU). Such iDMU contains information of the product, of the assembly processes and of the resources needed during the execution of such processes. iDMU, facilitates the implementation of collaborative working procedures between functional and industrial design engineers, the 3D virtual verification and validation of the assembly processes, and the automation of extracting documentation, in several formats (paper, electronic, augmented reality), needed to execute the assembly processes at the shop floor.

Rapid developments of technology in education, business, office administration, government and information dissemination play an important and large role in human life as a whole. The internet as a supporting tool can be a source of information in finding information related to various activities. Banjarsari village has quite large natural potential such as plantations, agriculture and tourism, but not much is known by people outside the village. The Village Website is expected to be a means of disseminating information, supporting superior village programs and publishing matters related to the potential that exists in Banjarsari village. Until now, the knowledge of the community or sub-district staff in Banjarsari village regarding the use of the website is still very lacking, so that the dissemination of village information through the website has never been implemented. In this PKM activity, the PKM team from the Indonesian Technocrat University helped develop a village website in Banjarsari village. Apart from that, the UTI PKM team also held training for all staff in Banjarsari village in order to be able to manage the website that had been created. With the creation and training of using the website in Banjarsari village, it is hoped that village programs and information about the village can be accessed and socialized properly.

Leadership and management skills are critical for health programs to deliver high-quality interventions in complex systems. In malaria-eliminating countries, national and subnational health teams are reorienting strategies to address focal transmission while preventing new cases and adapting to decentralization and declines in external financing. A capacity strengthening program in two regions in Namibia helped malaria program implementers identify and address key operational, political, and financial challenges. The program focused on developing skills and techniques in problem solving and teamwork, engaging decision-makers, and using financial evidence to prioritize domestic resources for malaria through participatory approaches. Results of the program included an observed 40% increase in malaria case reporting, 32% increase in reporting and tracing of imported malaria cases, 10% increase in malaria case management, integration of malaria activities into local operational plans, and an increase in subnational resources for malaria teams. To promote program sustainability beyond the implementation period, key program aspects were institutionalized into existing health system structures, program staff were trained in change leadership, and participants integrated the skills and approaches into their professional roles. A capacity strengthening program with joint focus on leadership, management, and advocacy has potential for application to other health issues and geographies.
