In response to requests for information concerning recent developments in political science in Great Britain and France, the following accounts were received from Professor Harold J. Laski, of the London School of Economics and Political Science, and M. Maurice Caudel, of L'École Libre des Sciences Politiques and editor of the Revue des Sciences Politiques:Great Britain. It will be well-known to American students of political science, especially since Professor Fairlie's very careful survey in a previous number of the Political Science Review, that there is practically no organized study of political science in Great Britain.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are a type of artificial intelligence that uses information from very large datasets to model the use of language and generate content. While LLMs like GPT-3 have been used widely in many applications, the recent public release of OpenAI's ChatGPT has opened more debate about the potential uses and abuses of LLMs. In this paper, we provide a brief introduction to LLMs and discuss their potential application in political science and political methodology. We use two examples of LLMs from our recent research to illustrate how LLMs open new areas of research. We conclude with a discussion of how researchers can use LLMs in their work, and issues that researchers need to be aware of regarding using LLMs in political science and political methodology.

In our article entitled "The Political Science 400: A 20-Year Update"
(PS, January 2007, 133–45), we presented the
names and total citation counts (1960–2005) of political science
faculty employed (ca. 2002) in U.S. Ph.D.-granting institutions who
were among the 400 most cited in their cohort or subfield. We
recognize the very important nature of our data for individual
scholars and the institutions at which they teach, and we apologize
to those colleagues whose citation counts were misreported,
especially to those few whose counts were off by a very large
amount. Yet, given that nearly 4,000 political scientists are
employed in a Ph.D.-granting institution in the U.S., and given the
numerous data limitations associated with using the Web of Science
search engine (as we explained in the lengthy methodological
appendix to our article), while we worked as hard as we could to
prevent errors, having some errors in our data set was virtually
unavoidable.

In contemporary political science time is becoming a portmanteau-concept. It forms terminological concatenations in all fields of theoretical and applied researches. At the same time methodological status of time in political science is still not clear. Author suggests a systematization of those researches there time is viewed as a meaningful factor in political process. On the analysis of theoretical basis, methodology and tools four approaches are introduced: narrative approach, psychological approach, institutionalist approach and cyclic approach. The order of introduction of these approaches is based on the degree of intentionality of political actors in their treatment of time: from the most to the least conscious end.

Digitalization is not only a new research subject for political science, but a transformative force for the discipline in terms of teaching and learning as well as research methods and publishing. This volume provides the first account of the influence of digitalization on the discipline of political science including contributions from 20 different countries. It presents a regional stocktaking of the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in most world regions. The digital transformation is an example of technological change that will have massive implications for politics and society. It involves a sweeping set of changes that many have likened to the Industrial Revolution. The digital revolution has generated extraordinary opportunities for political scientists, but it also raises serious questions about politics, issues like privacy, regulatory oversight, international conflicts and democracy. Many of these problems are old, but digitalization has magnified their difficulties and importance. The ambivalence of digitalization not only includes multiple aspects for political processes, for communication and for interaction in the political realm, but likewise for our discipline. Digitalization is both a research subject as well as a transformative force for our discipline in terms of teaching and learning, research methods, data collection and management, but also influencing publishing and consultancy.

Originally published in 1957, this short essay on an intricate historical theme, to which, according to the author, it is customary and proper to devote large volumes, was designed to whet but not to satisfy the appetite. The chapters provide the framework for a presentation of the views of theorists from Plato to Lenin on the character and purpose of political association. Its perusal will, the author hoped, provoke a wider and more intense study of social and political thought; it was not intended to be regarded or used as a substitute for further reading and reflection but as an invitation to prosecute these activities.
