Die Teilstreitkräfte Heer, Luftwaffe und Marine bilden den Kern deutscher Streitkräfte zur Erfüllung der Aufgaben der Bundeswehr als Teil der Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik Deutschlands. Der Beitrag stellt beginnend mit dem Heer die drei Teilstreitkräfte vor. Dabei stehen die Entwicklung von Heer, Luftwaffe und Marine im Vordergrund. Bei den Entwicklungen im Bereich Heer betrachtet der Beitrag die Aufbausphase, Ost-West-Konflikt, die Umbruchphase und die deutsche Einheit. Des Weiteren geht der Beitrag hier auf die weltweiten Einsätze ein und stellt Überlegungen zum zukünftigen Heer an. Auch bei Luftwaffe und Marine widmet sich der Beitrag den Entwicklungen von der Aufbauphase über den Umbruch und Paradigmenwechsel und skizziert die aktuellen Entwicklungen. Abschließend fokussiert der Beitrag auf das Zusammenspiel der Teilstreitkräfte im System Bundeswehr - besonders in Hinblick auf die Realisierung von Beschaffungsvorhaben - und versucht Aussagen darüber, wie die Neuausrichtung der Bundeswehr die Stellung von Heer, Luftwaffe und Marine gegenüber dem Bundesministerium der Verteidigung verändert wird.
