In the era of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, we increasingly work with machines in both cognitive and manual workplaces. This collection provides a series of accounts of workers' local experiences that reflect the ubiquity of work's digitalisation. Precarious gig economy workers ride bikes and drive taxis in China and Britain; domestic workers' timekeeping and movements are documented; call centre workers in India experience invasive tracking but creative forms of worker subversion are evident; warehouse workers discover that hidden data has been used for layoffs; academic researchers see their labour obscured by a 'data foam' that does not benefit them; and journalists suffer the algorithmic curse. "At the end of the Cold War, the United States emerged as the world's most powerful state, and then used that power to initiate wars against smaller countries in the Middle East and South Asia. According to balance-of-power theory--the bedrock of realism in international relations--other states should have joined together militarily to counterbalance the U.S.'s rising power. Yet they did not. Nor have they united to oppose Chinese aggression in the South China Sea or Russian offensives along its Western border. This book explores ways in which India can negotiate the low carbon path up until 2030, when it is expected to be the largest economy after the US and China. It comprehensively reviews the low climate pathways for India and provides a guide to the pathways that the country can adopt. India's population, energy demands and emissions will increase significantly, and the challenge is to restrict its CO2 emissions and walk the low carbon path. Through its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs), India has pledged to reduce its emissions significantly. Addressing the question of which low carbon paths India can adhere to without compromising its growth, the book identifies the key factors that feed into existing models of climate change and discusses the cost of action versus inaction. It also examines key issues concerning India's environment through the lens of the transport, industry and water sectors. The book concludes by looking at policy implications for low carbon growth in India.

The OECD/G20 Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Project has, thus far, mostly been an OECD-driven project. Nevertheless, its efforts in involving representatives from developing and emerging countries in the Asia-Pacific region have been encouraging and are laudable, given the tremendous challenges of achieving global consensus in a highly technical field and the tight time frame of the BEPS Project. The Asia-Pacific region poses unique challenges in its great diversity of economic development, as well as cultural and legal traditions. Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Korea, as OECD members, are at the forefront of tax innovation and development, while China, India and Indonesia are at the table as members of the G20.
