"Friendship (philia) is a complex and multi-faceted concept that is frequently attested in ancient Greek literature and thought. It is also an important social phenomenon and an institution that features in classical Greek social, cultural, and intellectual history. This collected volume seeks to complement the extensive modern scholarship on this topic by shedding light on complementary representations, nuances and tensions of friendship in a range of different sources, literary, epigraphic, and visual. It offers a broad overview of the contours of this important social phenomenon and helps the reader get a glimpse of its depth and richness"--
Verlagsinfo: "The work of imperialism requires imperialists. But who were the everyday people who willingly served the traditional European empires? Why did they do things that ranged from thoughtless and amoral to criminal and unforgivable? With unblinking clarity and precision, Arwen Mohun here interrogates the life and actions of her great-grandfather Richard Dorsey Mohun, an American who abetted King Leopold of Belgium's horrific exploitation of the Congo Free State. Mohun details his careless and racist use of power, revealing him as an all-too-unreflective ambassador of American corporate imperialism. She seeks not to excuse Dorsey but to understand how individual desire and imperial lust fueled one another, to catastrophic ends"--

Gustav Landauer was an unconventional anarchist who aspired to a return to a communal life. His antipolitical rejection of authoritarian assumptions is based on a radical linguistic scepticism that could be considered the theoretical premise of his anarchism. The present volume aims to add to the existing scholarship on Landauer by shedding new light on his work, focussing on the two interrelated notions of skepsis and antipolitics . In a time marked by a deep doubt concerning modern politics, Landauer's alternative can help us to more seriously address the struggle for a different articulation of our communitarian and ecological needs

The majority of South African principals believe that subject heads and Heads of Departments should be in charge of curriculum and teaching monitoring. Due to this impression, curricular management by principals does not support teaching and learning. According to the KZN department of education's study from 2015 on curriculum management and delivery plan, principals now spend more time on administrative responsibilities and learner discipline than on topics related to instructional leadership. This book emphasizes how major social and economic development in rural areas is necessary in order to achieve actual quality education. Until then, the educational options available in rural areas will restrict people's ability to live long, productive lives and to learn and experience freedom, dignity, and self-respect.
