Der Kalte Krieg: wie die Welt den Wahnsinn des Wettrüstens überlebte
24 Autoren haben sich zusammengefunden, um in 29 selbständigen, je für sich lesbaren Artikeln die allgemein als "Kalter Krieg" bezeichnete Epoche zwischen 1945 und 1991 mit der Aufteilung der Welt in 2 Machtblöcke und ihrer atomaren Menschheitsbedrohung nachzuzeichnen. Die Autoren, zumeist Redakteure des "Spiegel", zeigen sich bestens orientiert, nicht zuletzt begabt, die teilweise komplizierten Entscheidungsprozesse und Vorgänge interessant und allgemein verständlich vorzustellen - in Form von Reportagen, Gesprächen, Erlebnisberichten u.a. Einige Illustrationen veranschaulichen, konzentriert annotierte "Chroniken" grundieren, wenige, aber sinnvoll ausgewählte "Buchhinweise" helfen weiter. Insgesamt eine publizistisch ansprechende Aufbereitung, die sich gleichberechtigt neben fachwissenschaftlichen, korrekt-abgewogenen Darstellungen behaupten kann (vgl. etwa B. Stöver und J.L. Gaddis: beide in BA 5/07). Entsprechend dieser Einschätzung empfiehlt sich selbst eine zusätzliche Bereitstellung. (2)

Die "Frauen für den Frieden/Ostberlin" - Widerstand oder Opposition?

In der deutschen Widerstandsforschung zur DDR kommen Frauen kaum zu Wort. Widerstands- und Oppositionsforschungs scheinen fest in männlicher Hand zu sein, sowohl bezogen auf die Wissensproduktion als auch auf den Forschungsgegenstand. Die vorgelegte Studie bricht mit beiden Tabus und stellt eine Frauengruppe ins Zentrum, die mit mutigen und vielfältigen Protestaktivitäten gegen die diktatorische Politik der DDR-Regierung aufbegehrte. Exemplarisch werden die Aktionen der 'Frauen für den Frieden/Ostberlin' in den Jahren 1982 - 1989 auf ihren widerständigen, oppositionellen oder nonkonformen Charakter hin analysiert. Dabei wird zugleich eine neue Widerstandsbegrifflichkeit eingeführt, die es ermöglicht das Widerstandspotential von Protesthandlungen auch in der späten DDR zu identifizieren.
