Background: We are witnessing increasing demand from governments and society for all sciences to have relevant social impact and to show the returns they provide to society. Aims and objectives: This paper reports strategies that promote social impact by Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) research projects. Methods: An in-depth analysis of six Social Sciences and Humanities research projects that achieved social impact was carried out to identify those strategies. For each case study, project documents were analysed and qualitative fieldwork was conducted with diverse agents, including researchers, stakeholders and end-users, with a communicative orientation. Findings: The strategies that were identified as contributing to achieving social impact include a clear focus of the project on social impact and the definition of an active strategy for achieving it; a meaningful involvement of stakeholders and end-users throughout the project lifespan, including local organisations, underprivileged end-users, and policy makers who not only are recipients of knowledge generated by the research projects but participate in the co-creation of knowledge; coordination between projects' and stakeholders' activities; and dissemination activities that show useful evidence and are oriented toward creating space for public deliberation with a diverse public. Discussion and conclusions: The strategies identified can enhance the social impact of Social Sciences and Humanities research. Furthermore, gathering related data, such as collaboration with stakeholders, use of projects' findings and the effects of their implementation, could allow researchers to track the social impact of the projects and enhance the evaluation of research impact.

This paper uses the unique social structure of Arab communities to examine the effect of social identity on voter turnout. We first show that voters are more likely to vote for a candidate who shares their social group (signified by last name) as compared to other candidates. Using last name as a measure of group affiliation, an inverted U-shaped relationship between group size and voter turnout has been found (borderline significant) which is consistent with theoretical models that reconcile the paradox of voting by incorporating group behavior. AbstractRecently emphasis has been laid on the demands which the changing needs of society place on university studies. An examination of the relevance of Social Policy and Administration studies to employment demands is timely. This article is based on an examination of data obtained from the Universities Statistical Records, on the results of a survey of responses from graduates at Exeter University from 1972 to 1986, and on two recently published reviews of S.P.A. in universities. The appeal of courses to applicants, personal career motivations, field work experience and the structure of the courses are in turn examined for their influence on ultimate employment destinations. Discontinuities of classification in the available statistics of university courses make comparisons over time problematic. In general first degrees in S.P.A. are shown to have wide employment acceptability, a declining relationship with immediate employment in social work, a high level of adaptability to the needs of an economy affected by technological change, and a good educational basis for specialised post‐graduate professional qualifications.

Families in the UK with an irregular migration status are excluded from most mainstream welfare provision through the no recourse to public funds rule, and statutory children's social work services are one of the few welfare services available to undocumented migrant families. This article draws on semi-structured interviews with undocumented migrant families who are accessing children's services support to illustrate the sometimes uneasy relationship between child welfare law and immigration control. Outlining the legislative and policy context for social work with undocumented migrant families in the UK, the article argues that the exclusion of migrant families from the welfare state by government policy amounts to a form of statutory neglect which is incompatible with the global social work profession's commitment to social justice and human rights.

The chosen approach to the analysis of reactions of the employees of companies allows distinguishing the approach to corporate social responsibility in accordance with opinions of external stakeholders which are influenced by the communication strategies, often applied in the studies. This method of approach enables a more sensitive evaluation of the internal processes of the companies when carrying out the internal cuts in order to understand why the staff contributes or does not contribute to corporate social responsibility. This provides valuable knowledge on how to correct the strategy of the company.

O artigo reflete ao redor da relação perfil profissional-estratégias de intervenção nas instituições públicas, a fim de revelar a coexistência de práticas antagônicas dentro do coletivo profissional. Neste sentido compreende-se o caráter heterogêneo do coletivo profissional e, do mesmo modo, reconhece-se a dimensão política que atravessa a prática profissional. Sendo assim, o projeto de sociedad e profissão ao que se adira, vinculado às condições objetivas e subjetivas em que se desenvolve a prática profissional,dará os alicerces para configurar os diferentes perfis profissionais. Por isso, a partir das declarações dos trabalhadores sociais e usuários de serviços sociais entrevistados,pretende-se reconstruir os modos como tais perfis ontologicamente opostos são apresentados na prática profissional, pois isso revela a continuidade de práticas a serviço das classes dominantes e o reconhecimento de um setor que vem rejeitando o conservadorismo profissional. ; The article analyzes the relation between professional profile and intervention strategies in public institutions, in order to reveal the coexistence of conflicting practices with in the professional collective. In this sense, the heterogeneous nature of the professional group is understood and, likewise, the political dimension crossing the professional practice is recognized. Now, the project of society and profession that it adheres to, linked to the objective and subjective conditions in which professional practice is developed, will set the basis for configuring the various professional profiles. Therefore, based on the testimony of the social workers and social service users interviewed, the purpose is to reconstruct the ways in which these ontologically opposed profiles are presented on the professional practice, as this reveals the continuity of practices at the service of the dominant classes and the recognition of an industry that is rejecting the professional conservatism. ; El artículo reflexiona en torno a la relación perfil profesional- estrategias de intervención en las instituciones públicas, a fin de develar la coexistencia de prácticas antagónicas dentro del colectivo profesional. Ahora bien, el proyecto de sociedad y profesión al que se adhiera, vinculado a las condiciones objetivas y subjetivas en que se desarrolla la práctica profesional, sentará las bases para configurar los distintos perfiles profesionales. Por ello, a partir de los testimonios de los trabajadores sociales y usuarios de servicios sociales entrevistados, se pretende reconstruir los modos como dichos perfiles ontológicamente opuestos se presentan en la práctica profesional, pues ello revela la continuidad de prácticas al servicio de las clases dominantes y el reconocimiento de un sector que viene rechazando el conservadurismo profesional.

Practitioners identified religious and spiritual issues that emerge in social work practice and that are salient factors during various life stages. The data suggest that attention should be directed to this area of practice so that workers can deal competently with these issues.

As the Reagan administration shifts responsibility for services to state, local, and private arenas, new problems appear for social workers. The goals of the changes are examined as well as difficulties that may emerge in terms of increased expenses and diminished services.

Abstract
The main claim of the paper is that there are irreducibly social agents that intentionally perform social actions. It argues, first, that there are social attitudes ascribable to social agents and not to the individuals involved. Second, that social agents, not only individual agents, are capable of what Weber called "subjectively understandable action." And, third, that although action (if not merely mental) presumes an agent's moving her body in various ways, actions do not consist of such movements, and hence not only individual persons but social groups are genuine agents. We should be pluralists about individuation, rejecting both individualism and collectivism by granting that social agency is neither more nor less ultimate, well-founded, or basic than non-social agency.
