; Consciousness-raising is a feminist methodology whose name originated in the groups of women who were trained in the United States in the seventies (second wave feminism). In them, each woman presented her life. Some were organized by themes, such as motherhood, physical image or sexual relations, others read books and shared bibliography, and others helped women in difficult times. The result of these conversations is the formation of the "sexual class" consciousness that constitutes the seed of collective action. From the consciousness-raising groups of the seventies emerged fundamental concepts of feminism as "patriarchy" or "sexual class". If the feminism of the seventies was revolutionary, the feminism of our days, through social networks, could reach an unprecedented scale. This article intends to investigate the similarities between the feminism of the second wave and that of the fourth wave (current). The objective is to elucidate whether social networks allow the development of the aforementioned method of consciousness-raising, originating new explanatory concepts of the political reality of women.

"Reclaiming Participatory Governance offers empirical and theoretical perspectives on how the relationship between social movements and state institutions is emerging and developing through new modes of participatory governance. One of the most interesting political developments of the past decade has been the adoption by social movements of strategies seeking to change political institutions through participatory governance. These strategies have flourished in a variety of contexts, from anti-austerity and pro-social justice protests in Spain, to movements demanding climate transition and race equality in the UK and the USA, to constitutional reforms in Belgium and Iceland. The chief ambition and challenge of these new forms of participatory governance is to institutionalise the prefigurative politics and social justice values that inspired them in the first place, by mobilising the bureaucracy to respond to their claims for reforms and rights. The authors of this volume assess how participatory governance is being transformed and explore the impact of such changes, providing timely critical reflections on: the constraints imposed by cultural, economic and political power relations on these new empowered participatory spaces; the potential of this new "wave" of participatory democracy to reimagine the relationship between citizens and traditional institutions towards more radical democratic renewal; where and how these new democratisation efforts sit within the representative state; and how tensions between the different demands of lay citizens, organised civil society and public officials are being managed. This book will be an important resource for students and academics in political science, public administration and social policy, as well as activists, practitioners and policymakers interested in supporting innovative engagement for deeper social transformation"--

Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) are defined as infections developing in relation to health services at inpatient treatment facilities in general. Although health services improve, HAIs continue to be seen both in underdeveloped and developed countries. HAIs result in a range of negative externalities. Negative externalities include factors such as an increase in morbidity and mortality, extension of the hospitalization duration, impaired quality of life, loss of working power and performance. HAIs pose a big burden regarding population and community health care. This study aims to calculate the financial burden of HAIs by evaluating it within the scope of negative externality. The communal costs of HAIs patients were calculated by using a genuine approach with reference to samples obtained from the Duzce University Research and Application Hospital. This approach includes 4 stages and the results of each stage is sorted according to the data of 2013 as follows: (i) HAIs expenditure undertaken by the Social Security Institution is 5,832,167 TL, (ii) the monetary value of the work power loss of the HAIs patients who are at a working age is 126,154 TL, (iii) the relative cost of HAIs patients compared to a group of normal patients is 21,507 TL and (iv) HAIs patients' communal cost is 6,013,101 TL. Based on the received results, the annual communal cost of the estimated HAIs patients in Turkey is predicted to be 3,640,442,057 TL. In addition to these findings, HAIs patients experience 14 times longer in-patient stay at the hospitals as compared to normal patients, and their treatment expenditures are 23 times higher than the normal patients. In the conclusion part of the study, regarding the preventability (internalization) of HAIs, which was evaluated as part of negative externality, alternative applicable political suggestions are presented for the use of policymakers.
