Born into a wealthy and powerful Egyptian family, Huda Shaarawi was destined to lead a leisurely life in luxurious settings. She decided instead to acquire an education and to participate in the liberation of Egypt from the British occupation. Huda became famous overnight when she led a peaceful walk of veiled women across Cairo in 1919 to free the leaders of the Egyptian resistance who were detained by the British forces. She was then invited by the members of the Bureau of the IAWS (International Alliance for Women s Suffrage) to participate in the international conference in Rome in 1923. Huda became the lifelong friend of Western and other feminist leaders at that conference. It was after this conference in Cairo when she and her two traveling companions removed their face veil upon leaving the train at the railway station and were spontaneously imitated by all the other women in what became a landmark gesture in Egyptian history. In 1923, Huda founded the Egyptian Feminist Union affiliated to the IAWS, and began publishing a French magazine, L Egyptienne, to circulate information about Egypt s plight and achievements under the occupation, and to promote peace between Eastern and Western countries. She soon became - and remained for many years - one of the Vice-Presidents of the International Organization of Women

Integration and control are pivotal goals of enterprise information system implementations. However, misalignments inevitably occur between the system and organizational practices, and these misalignments are generally thought to undermine the goals of integration and control. We report on a longitudinal study of NASA's enterprise information system implementation, and we focus on how misalignments in procurement and project management routines affect integration and control. We show how different elements of routines dynamically adjust over time to enable stable system implementation, increasing integration and control throughout the agency. Greater integration and control on the organizational level were enabled by less-than-complete integration and control at the local level. Dynamically adjusting routines serve as "shock absorbers" that on one hand help promote the stability necessary for organization-wide enterprise-system-driven control and integration, and on the other hand allow for local self-organization.

"This erudite book offers an extensive overview of the key debates taking place amongst Post Keynesian economists, acknowledging the vital contribution Post Keynesian scholarship has made to theoretical and policy discourse in the 21st century. Bringing together distinguished experts from across the globe, Post Keynesian Economics: Key Debates and Contending Perspectives discusses the profound questions of heterodox economic theory and the far-reaching implications for economic policy. Chapters consider the relationship between Post Keynesianism and other schools of heterodox economics; modern monetary theory and its links to Post Keynesian economics; as well as exploring issues of gender, race, climate change, and the growth of inequality in the distribution of income and wealth. In a time of global financial and political uncertainty, this book presents alternative views on monetary theory and policy, providing a much-needed antidote to ongoing economic debates. This book will be of great interest to students, academics and researchers focussing on heterodox economics, Post Keynesian economics, and the history of economic thought. Highlighting the critical relationships between finance, politics and sociology, this book will also be beneficial to academics and researchers interested in sociology, politics and political science"--

Over the past 20 years, patenting in agricultural biotechnology has grown even faster than the rapid increase in US utility patents. Private firms, universities, and the federal government all increased patenting in agricultural biotechnology. Universities have increased patenting in agricultural biotechnology particularly rapidly, and they now hold a greater proportion of agricultural biotechnology patents than they do of patents in general. Private firms tend to dominate patenting in plant technologies and molecular level agricultural biotechnology. Differences in patterns of patent production suggest not only differences in agricultural biotechnology research investment but also differences in motivations for patenting. ; Includes bibliographical references
