In recent years, political polarization has received increased attention in the United States. Reports suggest that partisan differences have greatly deepened in the past several decades, and that this polarization has had a number of deleterious effects. However, some debate remains as to the etiology of political orientation and political choice—some suggest that political choices can be modeled as utility-optimizing economic actions, while others posit the existence of "moral foundations" that serve as the underpinnings of ideology. We take a quantitative approach to investigating these questions, examining over 80,000 posts from 50 liberal and 50 conservative blogs from the latter half of 2012, around the time of the United States presidential election. In our analysis, we employ Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count, a tool that measures the use of salient linguistic markers in digital texts. The markers examined include function words such as pronouns, articles, and prepositions; researchers have found that the frequency of usage of these words has correlations with a number of phenomena, including age, gender, wealth, and the success or failure of social interactions. Our investigation reveals that some divergence exists between the frequencies of use of these words by liberals and conservatives. By examining these divergences, we find support for a moral foundations approach to understand ideological differences. Our contribution adds to the discourse on the etiology of political choice and probes the ways in which ideological orientation affects written language.

Most media literacy programs fail to take into account the dramatic nature of digitalization, focusing on analog-native media such as the newspaper or digital-native media such as computers and overlooking the process through which these forms are blending and converging. Those trends and ideas includenew digital aesthetics and new social effects caused by digitalization, both of which need to be taken into account in media literacy programs. The aesthetics of digitalization include prepurposing and repurposing content, virtual experience, sampling, interactivity, and manipulation. The new social effects include nonlinearity and content on demand. Digitalization will not immediately replace analog- and digital-oriented programs but needs to be considered as a part of thorough media literacy education.

This study assessed how sexual media use by one or both members of a romantic dyad relates to relationship and sexual satisfaction. A total of 217 heterosexual couples completed an Internet survey that assessed sexual media use, relationship and sexual satisfaction, and demographic variables. Results revealed that a higher frequency of men's sexual media use related to negative satisfaction in men, while a higher frequency of women's sexual media use related to positive satisfaction in male partners. Reasons for sexual media use differed by gender: Men reported primarily using sexual media for masturbation, while women reported primarily using sexual media as part of lovemaking with their partners. Shared sexual media use was associated with higher relational satisfaction compared to solitary sexual media use.

The sovereign states of Melanesia are countries where the yoke of colonialism and struggles for independence are still within living memory. There are territories within Melanesia where the questions and complexities associated with achieving self-determination are very much live issues. In West Papua, this issue is one over which blood continues to be spilt. As these countries, and the communities within them, grapple with political-economic and technical shifts, the need for independent journalism is self-evident. However, journalists, editors, publishers and media owners face a barrage of challenges to their ability to operate free from repression or coercion by those who wield power in their societies. Some of these challenges are overt and can extend to threats or physical intimidation. Others are more subtle but no less pervasive and damaging. They lead to a narrowing of the media landscape, the loss of talented professionals to other areas, the rise of self-censorship, and more.

To fill a critical void in organizational culture pedagogy, the authors present an instructional system that employs the metaphor of a gyroscope to help students understand implicit assumptions in culture research. Working from Martin's nexus approach to organizational culture and Fairhurst and Putnam's tripartite theory of organizational discourse, the system in this study illustrates three interpretations of the relationships between culture and communication implicit in the literature. Each relationship is defined, exemplified with culture research, and critiqued. Pedagogical applications of the gyroscope metaphor are also outlined.

Market relationships have undergone profound changes in the past two decades, which have been accelerated by the crisis of the global pandemic. This has led to a fundamental transformation in the communications not only of businesses but also of governments, organizations, and communities. This study addresses web personalization with an emphasis on artificial intelligence in the context of their use for managing and decision-making in marketing processes in practice. These two techniques tend to be often confused in practice, and for this reason it is helpful to define their positions and mutual interactions. The goal of this article is a theoretical comparison of web personalization and artificial intelligence as part of marketing processes and the proposal of a framework for their use for creators of any online media content. At the same time it sheds light on the meaning and use of web personalization for management in practice and in particular in marketing processes and proposes a model for implementing these techniques that can be used in strategic marketing. This article presents research questions and uses secondary data analysis in the form of literature review and content analysis. The result is categorization of web personalization and artificial intelligence techniques, identifying their mutual links, and proposing an application framework for marketing practice. This article contributes to the discussion by identifying managerial use of defined techniques and their position in strategies for producers of online content and offers a new perspective on the interaction of personalization and artificial intelligence, whereas this approach has not been sufficiently explored in the academic literatur
