This book presents the first systematic and historical contextualization of the development of Hamas' media strategy. It determines three key phases in Hamas' development and explores the complex and important relationship at work between its politics and use of media. Assessing four elements of the Hamas media strategy; the media message (discourse), the media objectives, the infrastructure, and the target audience, this book tracks how Hamas grew its media infrastructure, and looks at how the idea of resistance has permeated the media discourse. Determining both tactical and strategic objectives and detailing the various layers to the target audience, it offers the first in-depth academic study of the Hamas media strategy. --

In this study, we examine the notion of homeland among Syrian-Lebanese immigrants and their descendants in Brazil, a community that for almost one hundred years has established a prominent presence in the host country and has undergone significant social, political, and economic transformation. As we investigate the representations of the homeland in the realms of literature and music across several generations, we seek a better understanding of how this community has perceived and interpreted the concepts of roots, or place of origin. While exploring Syrian-Lebanese cultural production in light of the broader discourses on immigration/diaspora, our research addresses the position of the homeland in the immigrants' experience, as well as their own history and life in the new world.

AbstractThe issue of microplastic pollution has seen an increasing focus over the last decade, both as a scientific research topic and due to intensive media interest. Despite this, there has been, until recently, a relative paucity of data relating to the volume and type of microplastics in the marine environment. The Cell 1 Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme, which covers approximately 300 km of the northeast England coastline, has recently collected subtidal sediment samples from the bed of the North Sea and analysed these for particle size distribution and microplastic content. This paper presents the results of this analysis along with a literature review of the sources, movements and concentration of microplastics in the marine environment.

International audience The present paper discusses the structure of the Church of Almighty God which enables its leader to control the church from a distance and reconsiders the relationship between politics and religion. Although having a Christian identity, the Church of Almighty God adopting a highly hierarchical structure finds its roots in the Maoist political culture and a Chinese messianic tradition as well. The encounter of these traditions and cultures in the context of contemporary China shows us how new religions groups absorb different symbolic resources to nurture their own organisation and to what extent Christianity is sinized. Through this case study, we see how an old tradition can be alive today and how the borrowing of discourse and practice between social-political organisations is common. Not only religious groups inspire government for its politics, but also government measures nurture religious groups' practices.

The paradigm of Big Data has been established as a solid field of studies in many areas such as healthcare, science, transport, education, government services, among others. Despite widely discussed, there is no agreed definition about the paradigm although there are many concepts proposed by the academy and industry. This work aims to provide an analytical view of the studies conducted and published regarding the Big Data paradigm. The approach used is the systematic map of the literature, combining bibliometric analysis and content analysis to depict the panorama of research works, identifying patterns, trends, and gaps. The results indicate that there is still a long way to go, both in research and in concepts, such as building and defining adequate infrastructures and standards, to meet future challenges and for the paradigm to become effective and bring the expected benefits.
