AbstractCorporate social responsibility (CSR) has steadily grown in importance. We show government regulation on corporate reporting of CSR, aimed to spur its growth and increase transparency, has grown in tandem. Such reporting regulation is more readily observable than CSR itself and can be used as a proxy for the latter. We show that larger economies with higher institutional capacity find it easier to develop reporting regulations, and that international influences and local pollution increase concerns are important contributing factors. We show that such regulation also increases CSR, even after accounting for common unobserved factors that may affect both.

PurposeThis paper aims to study how corporate social responsibility (CSR) behaviors can lead to corporate membership onFortuneMagazine's Most Admired Companies list.Design/methodology/approachRegression analysis using environmental, social and governance (ESG) statistics published by MSCI-KLD as independent variables to predict the behaviors that lead to most admired status.FindingsNot surprisingly, corporate financial performance (CFP) is the largest contributor to membership on the list. However, after controlling for CFP, the analysis finds that specific social responsibility behaviors contribute to membership on the Fortune list.Practical implicationsThis paper finds that CSR behaviors are important to a firm's reputation as measured byFortune's Most Admired Companies list. Therefore, companies should continue with social responsibility activities to improve their reputation with investors.Originality/valueMany articles test the effect of ESG on financial performance and the role of financial performance on stock price. This paper is unique in that it measures the impact of CSR on corporate reputation using an important financial market benchmark – theFortuneMost Admired Companies list.

AbstractThe study examines the contemporary normative debate on social justice from the perspective of the normative political theory of "egalitarian liberalism". Contrary to an anti-egalitarian liberal political theory, or "libertarianism", the argument is that a notion of "effective freedom", and not negative freedom, is central to egalitarian liberalism. Additionally, in contrast to a theoretical current of egalitarianism known as "luck egalitarianism", the article further argues that although egalitarian liberalism assigns special importance to individual responsibility, it does so (unlike luck egalitarianism) without implying any concession to the conservative critique of egalitarianism and the state's redistributive action.
Sustainability of Business in the Context of Environmental Management studies the newly emerged concept of 'sustainable business' in view of the growing Indian economy. It explores the current corporate social responsibility practices adopted with special reference to environmental management in Indian companies. The book compares the legal, financial, economic, industrial, and social behavioural aspects. Out of these aspects, industrial aspect in view of 'environmental management' is discussed in detail. It also explores the forces driving the changing relationship between business and society and corporate leadership reacting to environmental challenges. As the global competitiveness accelerates in the world, it is a major challenge for the companies to attract talents and attain them within the company. The business needs to contribute to the well-being of the community and society they affect. High salary alone is no longer effective tool for the business, people want to work in the company whose values match their own values and that impact contribute to society and environment. For the business is crucial to know what kind of aspects influence on a particular group of stakeholder (job seekers and employees) decision to choose a place of work. The core research statement is, how CSR based factors influence on employer attractiveness and how these factors impact on the choice of employees in choosing a company for working. This study is exploratory, a quantitative approach is applied. Questionnaire examines interest of one of the stakeholders, particularly employees' or prospective employees' perception toward company CSR. According to the results, CSR dimensions (economic, social and environment) were measured by the respondents as highly important for an organization. However, at what extent CSR can be considered as the strongest tool for attracting new talents in the organization and keeping them for a long period is difficult to be measured. Taking into consideration other determinants on employer attractiveness, CSR alone can not attract and attain talents in the organization, but can be one strong determinant that could encourage workers to stay committed to the organization.
