Foreign policy processes have long played a minor role in the study of political communication. There is a broad consensus that the media is the central mediating actor and primary conduit between political decision-makers and the public. However, the media's influence on foreign policy remains contingent across various processes and phases of foreign policy making; it is dynamic and multi-directional. Considering that the public sphere is essential for the legitimacy of foreign policy making, there is a demand for further research on the media's performance in the making of foreign policy. Based on secondary research, this paper proposes an analytical framework for the systematic analysis of media–foreign policy relations by integrating foreign-policy context conditions as a research variable. The framework is based on the assumption that the role of the media varies across diverse foreign policy contexts depending on the intensity of governmental involvement in foreign policy issues. The intensity is distinguished according to three dimensions: no involvement, indirect involvement and direct involvement. Finally, a case study is suggested in order to demonstrate the framework's explanatory power: the German media coverage of Russia.

Examines how leaders can use involvement in foreign conflicts in order to increase their favorable coverage by the domestic news media, and thus raise their approval ratings; focuses on the US invasion of Grenada in 1983 during the Reagan administration.

Organized around several major theoretical traditions in international relations, this essay suggests which literature in psychology should be of greatest interest to different kinds of international relations scholars. New work in cognitive social psychology and behavioral decision theory simultaneously expands on and qualifies earlier error-and-bias portraits of the foreign policy maker, thereby enriching our understanding of internal divisions within the realist camp. Work on bounded rationality in competitive markets and mixed-motive games, as well as the literature on the power of human emotions to shape judgments of what represents an equitable allocation of scarce resources or a just resolution of conflicts of interest, can inform neo-institutionalist and constructivist theories. Developments in cross-cultural social psychology shed light on constructivist arguments about the creation and maintenance of international social order that typically rest on assumptions about decision making that are qualitatively different from realist and institutionalist approaches to world politics.

When separatist revolts erupted in Spain's American colonies in the early 1800s, opinion in the United States was undecided as to what position to take. Proximity and America's own anti-colonial ethos favored sympathy with the rebel cause, yet U.S. strategic interests during the tumultuous Napoleonic Wars dictated a policy of neutrality. At the beginning of the 21st century, when the world order is shaping around poles of power, it is obvious that the Republic of Moldova cannot remain outside the communities formed by other states. The Republic of Moldova is increasingly influenced by the processes taking place around the world. As a state that gained independence almost 30 years ago, our country is trying to find its place in these processes. Studying the priorities, the main results of the foreign policy obtained by the Republic of Moldova becomes a necessity and a desideratum of time. Today, new scientific visions on the phenomenon of our country's foreign policy in the context of cooperation relations with neighboring states are needed. The orientation towards a synthesis research, with an ample analysis in the specialized literature from our country, Romania and Ukraine, favors the study of the foreign policy to the interference of the integrationist processes and of the national interest. In particular, in this article we will briefly present some aspects regarding the political, economic and cultural development of the Republic of Moldova with Romania and Ukraine at comparative level, especially at the current stage, drawing some conclusions and recommendations on intensifying the dialogue between the parties.
