How does spatial justice take place within cities? To understand spatial justice within a city under lockdown, this article considers both the 'corporeal emplacements' within spaces identified by Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos (2015) and the 'material geographies' ( Soja 2010 ) essential to understanding spatial justice in everyday life in contemporary cities. Several of the material localities arising during the 'stay home' orders of the State of Emergency in Victoria are considered; namely, first, the shared spaces of the street visited by individuals on their permitted forays from home; second, the domestic space of the home; third, the spaces occupied by or allocated to those who lack stable housing; and, finally, hotel rooms, used during the pandemic to house people experiencing homelessness, returned travellers in quarantine, and evacuated detainees. Close examination of such places reveals fault lines of social stratification, linguistic and representational boundary lines regulating their governance, and the stakes of seeking to achieve spatial justice in the pandemic city.

The non-implementation of political decisions is a major challenge of contemporary political life. Policy analysis has devoted careful attention to implementation gaps resulting from administrative non-compliance with political orders. However, the fact that political authorities actually want to enforce all policies should not be taken for granted. This article proposes a conceptual model that systematically accounts for cross-agency divergence and convergence processes both at the political and at the street levels. We find that in inter-sectoral policies, dissent between different heads of agencies (political level) or between groups of implementing bureaucrats (street level) rather than dissent between the political and the street-level can be a major cause of non-compliance. Based on a comparative dataset on the implementation of the smoking ban in 12 Swiss states, the article analyzes cross-agency fragmentation processes. It advocates a stronger dialogue between street-level bureaucracy and policy coordination literatures, and nuances the conceptualization of (non-)compliance in a cross-agency context.

The article considers the pilgrimage in Judaism as an important part of the religious life of the Jews. The questions of the origin and development of this phenomenon are analyzed. Numerous examples show the diversity and importance of pilgrimage in Judaism. It is noted that the activities and heritage of pilgrims are a significant material for studying the culture of this spiritual civilization. The most visited religious objects are singled out: first of all, the Jerusalem Temple, sacred places, burials of the Prophets, graves of the experts of the Law. For millions of Jews, a reverent attitude to the object of worship serves the fulfillment of the will of the Creator. The purpose of the study is to reveal the peculiarities of pilgrimage in Judaism, to show the influence of historical, geographical, cultural factors on their formation. This work can be useful for solving pressing problems of interaction with representatives of the world of Jewish civilization, which significantly influenced the formation and development of Christianity and Islam.

The article reveals the essence of the concept of "social creativity", it offers indicators and levels of formation of social creativity. The resources of out-of-town children's health centres in the formation of social creativity of the individual are described. The results of the study are presented, proving the possibility of the formation of social creativity by means of project activities. On a sample of the 1st year students of Kostroma State University, it was shown that the young adult who have experience in project activities in general education schools and in temporary children's associations, at the stage of the beginning of their student life at university, show a higher level of communicative and social creativity, are significantly less likely to experience various communication difficulties, are able to effectively interact in a team and resolve conflict situations. It is concluded that continuity in the systems of general, additional and professional education is an important mechanism of socialization and the formation of social creativity of an individual.

Purpose: Alternative sentencing programs for women with nonviolent drug offenses may provide opportunities to change the life trajectories of women and their families. The primary purpose of this study was to assess whether a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) intervention could improve levels of hope following treatment. A second objective was to assess whether MBSR intervention could influence perceived stress, self-compassion, and mindfulness. Methods: Participants attended a 6-week mindfulness class, with outcomes measured using pretest–posttest survey comparison. Results: Paired sample t tests showed improvements in hope, stress, self-compassion, and mindfulness following treatment. Discussion: Community-based intervention models, such as MBSR therapy in alternative sentencing programs, may alleviate negative psychological impacts experienced by female offenders. These results align with previous research that suggests participants may see improved ability to regulate emotions following MBSR therapy. This research indicates that MBSR therapy, for women in alternative sentencing programs, may promote hope as a learned psychological skill.

AbstractSuccessful aging broadly refers to the development and maintenance of favorable life outcomes with increasing age. We propose that the likelihood of people aging successfully is enhanced by routinely engaging in habitually repeated, enjoyable actions (henceforth, "rituals") that cultivate their personal resources in the physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual domains. We suggest that fixed mindsets will impede the discovery and adoption of such rituals, whereas growth mindsets will facilitate people exploring, trialing, and perpetually enacting rituals that help them age successfully. After defining successful aging, we explain the nature of mindsets and discuss their role in systematically cultivating relevant physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual resources. Practical examples of personal resource-building rituals are provided throughout. We outline several avenues for future research to test hypotheses derived from the propositions we have advanced and illustrate how mindsets might be deliberately fostered to support successful aging. We also suggest potential boundary conditions on the utility of growth mindsets.

The article reveals the essence of one of the phenomena of the era of Alexander's reforms which on the scale of the Russian Empire was most common in Belarus but until now has not become the subject of research by Belarusian historians. According to the sources identified in the archives and book repositories of Belarus, Russia, Lithuania the military post due to the special geostrategic position of the Belarusian provinces in the mid 1850s – mid 1870s was an integral attribute of the daily life of hundreds of thousands of their inhabitants. In the present study is the first to assess the extent of involvement of the population in Belarusian provinces in support of troops of the Russian Empire housing allowance, sets out the principles and forms of army civilian infrastructure and food within the housing service, the role of local civil administration and selfgovernment in the cantonment of the troops on the ground. For the first time most of the used ones are mentioned.

Abstract Steven Soderbergh's Contagion (2011) positions the vaccine as the end point of the arc of ​pandemic, marking both the containment of an elusive virus and ​the resumption of a life not fundamentally different from ​before the disease outbreak. ​The film reinforces the ​assumption that a pandemic will awaken ​all of us to the urgency of vaccination​, persuading us to put aside our reservations and anxieties ​and the idea that compliance is the inevitable outcome of quarantine. This article explores how pro-vaccination cultural products ​such as Contagion might in fact undermine public health efforts by promoting a false narrative, which simplifies the kind of vaccination campaign necessary for herd immunity to develop. An ethic of sacrifice and selflessness drives the public health messaging of the film but leaves intact certain individualistic tropes and plague narrative scapegoating tendencies, while the framing of the vaccine as "gift" takes it out of the realm of medical science altogether.

Herbert Gans' classic book, The Levittowners, has inspired generations of urban sociologists studying American suburbs, but it has also confined the field's focus to studies of the local community. At the same time, however, outside the discipline of American urban sociology, an interdisciplinary field of global suburban studies has flourished. Global suburban studies address a wider range of topics that extends to infrastructural provision, governance, and popular resistance. By introducing the key debates in global suburban studies, this essay argues that it is time for American urban sociologists to broaden their analytical focus beyond community institutions and power relations, and that much can be gained by adopting an international and comparative perspective to learn about urban peripheries elsewhere in the world. A comparative vantage point can help U.S. sociologists better situate socio–spatial transformations in American suburbs among a world of cities (and suburbs), and mine new insights on topics involving poverty, segregation, and community life that have been at the center of suburban research in American sociology.

Communities of Memory of the Holodomor in the USA and Canada in the 1950s-80s
The main goal of this article is to show how the Ukrainian community in North America, thanks to cultivating the memory of a marginal event from the point of view of American history, managed to appear in the social life of the USA and Canada. Here I use the concept of 'community of memory' to emphasize those Ukrainian communities in the USA and Canada that are of utmost importance in the commemoration of Holodomor. They also managed to retain this event's memory in many other competing memories, dabbling in the memory of their identity as American Ukrainian. Therefore, in the following sections of the article, I will attempt to answer why it was the diaspora that undertook a tremendous effort to commemorate Holodomor's victims and the course of that process for years. Finally, I employ critical analysis of media discourses. Moreover, I will consider the Holodomor generation's role in cultivating that memory and emergence of the 'communities of memory'.

The concept of social exclusion refers to the processes through which some groups are wholly or partially excluded from full participation in the society in which they live. In light of this concept of social exclusion, the manuscript attempts to analyze the position of women in the north‐eastern Indian states especially in the state of Assam and Manipur. Women in the north‐eastern region of India are relatively better than their counterparts elsewhere in the country in terms of mobility, life choices, space in their lives, and so on. Various indices also give us the idea of a comparatively better position of women in the north‐eastern states of India. However, albeit the north‐eastern women incline to relish a higher status in cognation to their peers in the rest of India yet the cultural and customary traditions, discriminate against women in inordinate respect, and women in this region also face discrimination on many fronts, more so in the patriarchal societies of Assam and Manipur which has been highlighted in this manuscript.

The aim of this article is to categorise the factors of tension in public organisational settings. The context of the administrative reforms undertaken in Tunisia has been chosen as an empirical illustration of the public governance tensions associated with managerial artefacts. The study focuses on three types of factors. An analysis of these factors confirms the theories on the appropriation of management tools and helps raise the existing level of knowledge in relation to the processes to mitigate public governance tensions within public organisations.Points for practitionersToday, the modernisation of public governance goes hand in hand with the introduction of new public management tools in administrative settings. On a practical level, the appropriation of these tools generates a tense relationship between political decision-makers and public managers. Often perceived from the perspective of paradoxical demands and antagonistic relationships that disrupt the daily life of state organisations, public governance tensions can be managed as long as they are identified and categorised in the light of the factors of tension associated with the reforms undertaken.

Social workers often deal with complex, challenging, and emotionally exhausting situations that can negatively impact their mental and physical health. When a helping professional is in distress, client care may be compromised. Therefore, the necessity of wellness practices to reduce stress and mitigate burnout is gaining recognition in the social work profession. The National Association of Social Workers (2013) asserts that supervisors are responsible for recognizing and responding to supervisees' work-related angst. However, there is little research published that addresses pre-burnout symptoms and self-care practices in the supervisory process. The Resiliency-Focused Supervision Model (RFSM), a culturally-responsive, strengths-based framework, was developed to assist supervisors in helping supervisees to manage stress, avoid burnout, and be successful in the workplace. The RSFM's interrelated domain areas include: 1) structural/environmental, 2) relational, 3) work self-care, and 4) life self-care. The RFSM is a practical, pragmatic option for supervisors to use in partnership with social workers to promote good health, well-being, and resiliency.

The presiding judge's order is that special procedure that we have to observe in cases where the prompt action of justice is needed, being, therefore, a very useful proceeding means, that might be used, in practice, by people for whom the passing of time necessary for following all the bureaucratic procedures and observing all the proceeding discipline of common law is vital, this because their life is subject to a real and imminent risk. We are referring, specifically, to those patients with incurable diseases, oncological, for whom the appropriate efficient medical treatments are extremely expensive and who, beyond the difficult fight with the disease, must fight the "system", from which they do not get favorable, rapid responses as they were supposed to, so to not come to a tragic ending. Within this analysis context, we are interested in following the manner in which the courts invested with presiding judge's order exercised in circumstances like this, have assessed the fulfilment of the special conditions of admissibility for this procedural tool.
