The career selection process is a very important decisionin every student's life. Many factors are affecting before thetaking a decision on their future career. In this study, the researcher wants toinvestigate the influence of respondents' parental cultural capital of selectedareas. Some other factors like; the profession of their parents, their residenceand the income of their family on the career selection process of 320students of tertiary level education from the government sector graduatecolleges of District Layyah. In this study, the researcher also investigatedthose students who are studying in the B.S. program; either they are in theirown will, or they faced some external forces with selecting this field of study.For this proposal, the data was collected through a questionnaire. The resultsshow the parents influence as most significant in the career selection processof the students at the higher education level. It is recommended that parentsequally mobilize their resources, such as social and cultural capital, to theirchildren. This will help them make wise career decisions.

AbstractAs a technology for in situ treatment and remediation of groundwater contamination, permeable reaction barriers (PRBs) have the advantages of operational efficiency and low infrastructure footprint. In order to clarify previous research results and provide references for future research on remediation of contamination by dissolved oil contaminants in groundwater, the focus of this article is to review and compare the application of PRBs for the removal of dissolved oil contaminants and highlights the research gaps. We concentrate on the relationship between structure design, media types and service life of PRBs, along with groundwater flow velocity, temperature, pH and other hydrochemical conditions. These influencing factors are used to make a detailed explanation and analysis of remediation of oil contamination in groundwater. The current application of PRBs is mainly limited to heavy metals and inorganics, rather than persistent organics such as components in oil. The application of new PRB materials and combination of multiple remediation technologies in oil‐contaminated sites will be the focus of future research.

Abstract
There has been an increasing interest in the 'tongqi phenomenon' in China. The 'tongqi phenomenon' is usually described in research as mixed-orientation marriages (MOMs). Tongqi refers to a group of heterosexual women who unwittingly married non-straight men. While the literature on the 'tongqi phenomenon' has mainly focused on the adverse effects and victimisation on tongqi, this qualitative study aimed to understand how tongqi construct their reality/perplexity within a MOM on how they determined conjugal relationships after discovering their husband's sexual orientation. We adopted the virtual ethnography method to conduct non-participant observation in the tongqi online support group, followed by fourteen semi-structured, in-depth interviews in China. Three main themes emerged via thematic analysis: maintaining the intact marriage, reframing their marriage and getting a divorce. Tongqi showed agency and resilience in understanding their marital situations, navigating resources and making marital life fit their reality. The practical implications for social work and future studies are discussed.

The regulated airspace in which aircraft flights take place is part of the Earth's atmosphere. At the same time, the same airspace is the seat of meteorological process and phenomena that have no borders and whose activity is not regulated, but whose evolution in time and behavior is governed by their own laws. This study presents, in a descriptive manner, low level dangerous weather conditions associated with wind shear also called the invisible killer. The phenomenon can occur locally, extremely rarely (3-4 times per year) during winter operations, mainly in January, under the activity of Mediterranean cyclones and its uniqueness consists in duration and intensity. To highlight the impact on flight safety in winter operations, especially in the current context of global warming, the reference and analysis periods applicable to this study are indissolubly reduced to days and minutes. When we talk about flight safety, the immediate application of corrective actions by pilots, the reference period is indissolubly reduced to seconds, those seconds that can make the difference between life and death

Children known to child welfare are more likely to have poor health compared to the general population. Most children served by child welfare are served in their own homes. New Jersey implemented the Child and Family Nurse Program (CFNP) to provide nurse care coordination to address the health needs of children who remain in-home. Our study described: 1) families served by CFNP; 2) services provided to these families; and 3) family well-being outcomes. The study focused on the 304 families served by CFNP from 2016 to 2017. We used CFNP data to describe families served and services provided, and family baseline and follow-up surveys to assess change in family well-being over time. Families served by CFNP experienced improvements in family protective factors and health-related quality of life from baseline to follow-up. While more rigorous studies are needed to learn CFNP's impact, it is a promising approach that merits consideration by state child welfare leaders.

The article examines the formation of the early support system for young children as an integral part of Ukraine's state policy in the field of education and children's rights, the international and national legislation that defines this system, and the stages of its formation. Early support is understood as an interdisciplinary family-centred comprehensive support system for young children with developmental disabilities or biological or social risks. The aim of this system is to improve children's development and their families' quality of life with the help of special institutions, organisations and their subdivisions of different subordination: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Ukraine. The main provisions declared in international and national legal documents concerning early support for children with special educational needs at different age periods are analysed and the stages of system formation are defined. The practices of early support for children with special educational needs at each formation stage are described.

AbstractWe survey the recent economics and history literature on the Chinese state to investigate its role in China's long‐term socioeconomic development. We highlight three insights. First, unlike in Europe, where interstate competition helped give rise to capitalist states with high capacity, the Chinese state emerged from a different historical context. Second, the 18th‐ and 19th‐century Chinese state does not fit into the mould of a strong and extractive Oriental despotic state as once commonly believed. By conventional measures, early modern China had a weak state. Third, state building and centre‐local relations are two useful dimensions to understand development and change in China's recent history and political economy. To adapt China to a changing world, Chinese state builders embarked on a long process of state building from the late‐19th century through the Republican and Communist eras. Facilitated partly by regional decentralisation, the process now sees the Chinese state playing a substantially larger role in the economy and everyday life than any previous time in history.

Even though research has been showing that telework, under regular circumstances, could benefit the integration of work and family life, mandatory telework during the COVID-19 lockdown brought additional challenges, with potential to create conflicts between work and family spheres. Using regression analysis, this study examined the contribution of demographic and job-related variables to the prediction of work–family conflict among a sample of 213 workers who were involved in mandatory telework during the first lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The results revealed that role overload, after-hours work-related technology use, and low job autonomy accounted for the prediction of work–family conflict. Support from the supervisors and coworkers did not have an impact in easing the perception of work–family conflict but presented a moderation effect between after-hours work-related technology use and work–family conflict. Implications of the study for management practices related to telework, limitations of the study, and directions for future research are discussed.

This article critically engages with Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, focusing on the relationship between colonial logics and biological engineering that understands the natural world as property. First, it discusses the connections between the film and the shifting status of biopolitics becoming thanatopolitics, prompted by advances in synthetic biology. It argues that the film's preoccupation with the reproductive capacity of its replicants retraces a racialized (post) colonialism and reconfigured slavery, or the voluntary labour of the occupied – as normalized in synthetic biology and the ongoing processes of devaluing of some lives over others for socioeconomic reasons. Second, and relatedly, the film reveals how deeply the thanatopolitics of a biopolitical economy is rooted in an intensification of racialized and colonial logics. The film thus doubles as a medium in which to grasp the centrality of colonial and racial logics to the ongoing real subsumption of life by capital, and the ways in which it continues to shape the present.

Abstract
Digital labour platforms, encompassing on-demand translation work via apps and websites, have grown exponentially
in recent years and have significant consequences for translation workers. This study explores the critical literature on digital
labour platforms from a labour studies perspective and submits the findings of a quantitative survey of 70 translation workers
residing in Turkey and working on/for digital labour platforms. Our research suggests that the introduction of digital labour
platforms into translation production and business networks has not yet provided a significant contribution to the working
conditions of translation workers in Turkey. Instead, we argue that their working conditions have been rearranged and reorganized
in accordance with the uberization of (translation) work. According to the survey findings, engaging in such work on/for digital
labour platforms exposes translation workers to risks related to employment status, income level, work-life balance, social
protections, free agency, bargaining power, dependence on the platform, allocation of risks and rewards, and data collection,
protection and privacy.

AbstractOver 4500 people under 65 years of age live in residential aged care (RAC) in Australia, and they experience poorer quality of life than people with similar disabilities in other settings. Governments have long aimed to reduce admissions of young people to RAC, but in 2019, for the first time, the Australian Government adopted target dates for resolving the issue. The targets include reducing admissions of young people to near zero by 2022 and ensuring almost no one remains in RAC beyond 2025. The national strategy focuses mostly on housing and support needs being met via the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The present study drew on quarterly data from the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse to examine progress toward these targets. Significant progress was evident in terms of young people entering RAC: admissions reduced each quarter between September 2018 and July 2020, halving over two years. No progress was evident in terms of young people leaving RAC for better arrangements; the trend neither increased nor decreased. Prospects for achieving the targets are discussed.

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to explore the influence of the ethical infrastructure in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on the perceived importance of ethics and the ethical culture of these companies. The study also aims to identify the individual actionable items that contribute to this influence and help managers willing to improve the importance of ethics and the ethical culture within their organizations. The method used consisted of a quantitative study based on partial least squares (PLS) with 148 valid questionnaires from 65 SMEs. The actionable elements that have a more significant impact on the perceived importance of the role that ethics plays in the company are the following: to establish norms of behavior, whether written or not; to communicate clearly that nonethical behavior is not tolerated; to put in place sanctioning mechanisms for actions that while not ethical, could benefit the company; to consider employee expectations; and to give voice to employees in critical issues that might affect the company and to set up measures for work–life balance.

AbstractChild fostering has been documented over time in many parts of sub‐Saharan Africa. We know little, however, about how the prevalence of fostering differs across countries and broad regions, nor about how fostering—and its predictors—has changed within countries over time. To explore prevalence, trends, and predictors of child fostering, I leverage Demographic and Health Survey data of mothers of children aged 0–15 from 139 surveys in 36 countries collected between 1986 and 2019, representing all regions of sub‐Saharan Africa. Results suggest striking variation in the prevalence of contemporary fostering, ranging from 11.5 percent of mothers in Burundi to 45.7 percent in Namibia in the most recent survey. Fostering trends have fluctuated over time in the majority of countries, but have remained broadly stable, with random and fixed‐effects models indicating that the key correlates across and within countries over time have remained stable, with the prevalence of never‐married motherhood playing a key role in fostering. Together, results suggest child fostering remains an enduring institution in family life throughout sub‐Saharan Africa.

The article is devoted to the topical problem of political and cultural transformations in the interaction between political power and its only source in democratic discourse, the people. This eternal problem of political science and policy is considered in chronological order in the global context and in today's Ukraine. In traditional societies, there was a remote and alienated coexistence of state institutions and the masses. The exception was the democratic republics of ancient polises. The modern era generates a contractual theory of the origin of the state, which considers the institutions of power as the result of a social agreement between the sovereign people and the governors. In the modern era in the middle of the twentieth century, the concept of the welfare state was formed. In the postmodern era, unstable life forces citizens to behave in relation to state power, depending on the actualization of a particular guise of their own existence. Citizens are losing a clear, unambiguous idea of state power, its functions, place and role in society.

This paper is a narration on practices of unlimited liability Marwari businesses of a textile town in Western India. Although depicted as an 'outdated' form of incorporation, these businesses were surprisingly resilient prompting us to engage in exploration of their ways of doing business. We deployed Mignolo's concept of colonial-matrix-of-power to anchor our interpretive sense-making of enactments of our participant businessmen. The daily doings of the businessmen and their families enacted a 'way of life', Marwaripan. Activities created an intermesh across 'local' spaces of family, business and religion, constituting, what we call, a decolonial matrix-of-praxis. It created a 'local' form of Marwari governance where circulation and access to capital depended on extensively (and labouriously) negotiated construction of 'status' within open spaces of 'enunciation'. However, preserving Marwaripan also required arduous striving and collective toil to continuously construct subjectivities based on customary dharma through a communitarian pedagogy that could wean away actors from the state driven pedagogy of regular schools.
