La política de "Seguridad Democrática" del gobierno de Álvaro Uribe Vélez en Colombia enmarcada en el discurso del Poder Global y su Lucha Contra el Terrorismo, gesta un nuevo "dispositivo" penal en la primera década del siglo XXI, tras sesenta años de conflicto armado entre una subversión de izquierda, resultado de profundos problemas sociales, contra una ultraderecha, ahora armada y aliada con reductos del narcotráfico, escenificando la llegada de una ideología extremista, unanimista, radicalizada y autocrática que afronta el conflicto político-militar y social recurriendo a un experimento de remodelación social que redefinió la cuestión criminal y penal, coadyuvado por el trepidante performance multimediático "re-creado" por los Mass-media tradicionales y las nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación. Todo ello, influído por conceptos del denominado Derecho Penal del Enemigo. Tal proceso, analizado mediante la deconstrucción del lenguaje, sugerida por la Postmodernidad, y asumida desde la Teoría de la Complejidad. ; The policy of "Democratic Security" in the government of Alvaro Uribe in Colombia framed in the discourse of Global Power and the Fight Against Terrorism exploits a new criminal "device" in the first decade of this century, after sixty years of armed conflict between a leftist subversion, the result of profound social problems, against a far-right, now allied with redoubts armed of the drug lords organizations, staging the arrival of an extremist ideology, unanimist, radical and autocratic facing the military-political conflict and social resorting to a remodeling social experiment that redefined the criminal matter and criminal law device, aided by the fast-paced multi-media performance "re-created" by the traditional Mass-Media media and the new technologies of communication. All this was influenced by concepts of called Criminal Law of the Enemy. The terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine on January 7, 2015, lead to a swift response from media conglomerates in the form of powerful images and narratives that sought to preserve the official mythology and to reverse the effects of the violent terrorist communication. In the dialectics of media representations, the texts are transformed into images and images into icons. We are referring here to the highlighting of the Je suis Charlie theme as a particular image that was used as a rallying cry. Analysing the production of symbolic forms, especially in the international media representation with a special accent on headlines and visual and textual images we come to the conclusion that Je suis Charlie slogan suffered an ideological transformation, the image becoming a fetish. Hence, we have spoted an iconoclastic reaction from some international media outlets that were suggesting the need for an ambivalent narrative, avoiding an absolute, frozen meaning.

A panel study of registered voters around the time of the 1980 presidential election, compared with the conditions and results of a similar study of the 1976 race, reveals that features of a particular campaign environment exert an impact both on the various phases during the campaign when different voters decide for whom to vote and on the mass communication uses and effects associated with different voter types and campaign phases. The study reinforces the earlier finding that different parts of the electorate use the media differently across the course of the campaign, and it demonstrates to what extent these different patterns are campaign-specific.

This article exposes one of the research findings mass media cultural and industry: key to the understanding of youth identities, which consisted in the construction of a state of art, from design and qualitative hermeneutic approach; their interest is in describing how it was understood the relationship between the concepts culture industry / media and the notion of youth identities psycho-sociological perspective. This text exposes how the ideology of consumerism has introduced new ways of understanding the concepts of body, territory, socioeconomic status and gender, those concerning identity are influenced by the logic of the culture industry, young people construct their identity from the relationship they establish with the consumption of culture, the position they take when faced with offers sold by the media and their acceptance or not by the logic of the industry.

This study aims to see the effect of political information obtained from mass communication and interpersonal communication to the voters' quality of decision-making process in the 2009 Presidential Election. This study examines the causal relationship between five variables, namely media exposure, political socialization through primary groups, political engagement, central route, and peripheral route. The problem formulation is constructed based on the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) assumptions adapted to the electoral context. This study used cross-sectional survey towards 201 urban voters of Beji Sub-district who were selected randomly using multistage random sampling techniques. Data analysis techniques are univariate analysis with SPSS 17.0 and multivariate analysis with One-Step Approach Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method using Lisrel 8.71. The results show that the majority of voters in the 2009 presidential election used the irrational processing of political information through peripheral route. The study also shows that media exposure and political socialization through primary groups can be acted as antecedent variables to the correlational relationship between political engagement and political information processing.

There is little doubt of the fundamental impact of the 1994 Rwanda genocide on the country's social structure and cultural production, but the form that these changes have taken remains ignored by contemporary media scholars. Since this time, the need to identify the the particular industrial structure, political economy, and discursive slant of Rwandan "post- genocidal" media has become vital. The Rwandan government has gone to great lengths to construct and promote reconciliatory discourse to maintain order over a country divided along ethnic lines. Such a task, though, relies on far more than the simple state control of media message systems (particularly in the current period of media deregulation). Instead, it requires a more complex engagement with issues of self-censorship, speech law, public/private industrial regulation, national/transnational production/consumption paradigms, and post-traumatic media theory. This project examines the interrelationships between radio, television, newspapers, the Internet, and film in the contemporary Rwandan mediascape (which all merge through their relationships with governmental, regulatory, and funding agencies, such as the Rwanda Media High Council - RMHC) to investigate how they endorse national reconciliatory discourse. This study focuses on the period from 1995-2012, from the last days of the genocide proper (though mass ethnic violence continues on in various forms) to the contemporary period of comparative media "freedom," to map the trajectory of the space, discourse, and regulation of the Rwandan mediascape. In looking at the through-line of this media narrative, this study utilizes discursive analysis, trauma theory, and textual analysis to compose a geography of media production/consumption in tandem with a discursive analysis of key media texts. The goal is two-fold: First, to prove that there are many production and consumption registers within the Rwandan mediascape that all operate, to varying degrees, to reinforce a state-supported reconciliatory discourse, and that the diversification and democratization of media (satellite TV, the internet, etc.), though a significant development, has done little to alter the dominance of traditional media and message systems. And second, given the particular media geography of contemporary Rwanda, the deregulation of media has had a minimal impact on the centrality of state-run media in the everyday lives of the general populace.

La presente investigación presenta un estudio histórico de las prácticas comunicativas del movimiento okupa de Barcelona durante las décadas de los 80 y los 90 desde una doble perspectiva: por una parte, se presta atención a la relación del movimiento con la prensa dominante de su entorno y, por otra, se reconstruye el repertorio de proyectos mediáticos alternativos desplegado por los activistas en la época. El objetivo es identificar qué factores políticos, sociales y comunicativos intervinieron en la génesis de los medios okupas y en qué medida influyó en este proceso el tratamiento que recibió la okupación en los medios de comunicación de masas. Asimismo, se identifican las características de los medios okupas que los diferencian de los medios convencionales. Los resultados de la investigación se sustentan en la recolección de datos empíricos en la ciudad de Barcelona en un período temporal que se extendió desde finales del año 2008 hasta mediados de 2010. ; This research presents a historical study of the communicative practices of the squatters' movement in Barcelona during the decades of the 80s and 90s from two perspectives: first, it pays attention to the relationship of the movement with the mainstream local newspapers; and secondly, it reconstructed the repertoire of alternative media projects deployed by activists at the time. The aim is to identify which political, social and communicative factors involved in the genesis of the squatters' media and to what extent this process was influenced by the treatment received by squatting in the mass media. It also identifies the characteristics of the media squatters that differ from conventional media. Research results are based on empirical data collection in the city of Barcelona in a time period that stretched from late 2008 until mid-2010.

Este artículo analiza la cobertura mediática del avance de la pandemia de Covid-19 en Argentina y la medida de aislamiento social preventivo y obligatorio decretada por el gobierno nacional. Destaca tendencias problemáticas y buenas prácticas según un enfoque teórico-normativo, y las vincula con las características históricas del sistema de medios en el país. Utiliza una perspectiva teórico-metodológica que concibe a la comunicación como un derecho humano fundamental, esencial en una sociedad democrática y a los medios de comunicación de masas como vehículo fundamental para su ejercicio, y se apoya en las recomendaciones formuladas por organismos internacionales, organizaciones de la sociedad civil e instituciones nacionales. Se sostiene que los medios de comunicación de masas en la Argentina tienen la oportunidad histórica de mostrar la relevancia de su aporte no sólo para que enfrentar esta coyuntura, sino también para que salgamos de ella como una sociedad mejor y más justa. ; This paper analyzes the media coverage of the advance of the Covid-19 pandemic in Argentina and the measure of preventive and obligatory social isolation decreed by the national government. It highlights problematic trends and good practices according to a theoretical and normative approach, and links them to the historical characteristics of the media system in the country. It uses a theoretical-methodological perspective that conceives communication as a fundamental human right, essential in a democratic society, and the mass media as a fundamental vehicle for its exercise, and is supported by the recommendations made by international agencies, civil society organizations and national institutions. The argument is that mass media in Argentina have the historical opportunity to show the relevance of their contribution not only to face this situation, but also to come out of it as a better and more just society. ; Este artigo analisa a cobertura mediática do avanço da pandemia da Covid-19 na Argentina e a medida do isolamento social preventivo e obrigatório decretado pelo governo nacional, destacando tendências problemáticas e boas práticas, e vinculando-as às características históricas do sistema midiático do país. Utiliza uma perspectiva teóricometodológica que concebe a comunicação como um direito humano fundamental, essencial numa sociedade democrática, e os meios de comunicação de massas como um veículo fundamental para o seu exercício, e é apoiada por recomendações feitas por agências internacionais, organizações da sociedade civil e instituições nacionais. Mantémse que os meios de comunicação social na Argentina têm a oportunidade histórica de mostrar a relevância da sua contribuição não só para enfrentar esta situação, mas também para sair dela como uma sociedade melhor e mais justa.

This case study discusses the many considerations and challenges I encountered while conducting research for my dissertation. I highlight two methods in particular--survey experiments and content analysis--both of which I relied upon heavily while studying partisanship in the U.S. public and depictions of partisanship in mass media in the United States. The case study also offers useful recommendations regarding how to organize a dissertation, obtain survey data, and hold oneself accountable for completing research on time.

News discourse became increasingly more important and reached wider audiences, with pamphlets as the first real mass media. Newspapers appeared, first on a weekly and then on a daily basis. And scientific news discourse in the form of letters exchanged between fellow scholars turned into academic journals. The papers in this volume provide state-of-the art analyses of these developments.
