Інституційний алломорфізм як альтернатива інституційному ізоморфізму університетів у добу глобалізації ; Institutional Allomorphism as an Alternative to Institutional Isomorphism in Universities in the Age of Globalization
; Universities' mission is three-faceted: teaching, research and public service. In today's world, these areas under influence of both external and internal factors are changing rapidly. Enormous changes are occurring in the governance of universities as well. As a result of being long time behind the iron curtain Ukrainian universities have got a lot to catch up, especially in the realm of governance. Changes in this area are long overdue as some threats universities are facing now are so serious that endanger the existence of the universities themselves. The Globalisation as the process of the widening, deepening and speeding up of world wide interconnectedness is a cause of immense changes in universities. The aim of the paper is with the help of monographic method mainly to dash off to work out the allomorphic model of changes in the governance of universities. We argue that there are two alternatives there, using either isomorphic or allomorphic model. The former one is restrictive, prescribing up to details, the later one allowing universities use the 'global template' taking into account the circumstances, the base it is going to be build on. Using the allomorphic model universities reforming themselves based on that is their core, and they do so in an active and creative way. We believe that the competitive, institutional, coercive and mimetic pressures universities are under press them to change themselves. In order those changes be efficient they must be based on something native, something that best meets the requirement of the environment the university is in. Putting one 'global template' on all seems to as inadequate. This approach lacking the diversity the world is full of. We are all living in different circumstances, so we must adjust the global approach to the local base. So, in order to effectively manage the changes universities must be well governed. Of the two alternative approaches that they can opt for, we believe it is appropriate to use allomorphic option that allows the use of «global template» based on internal Ukrainian «base» and consistently and methodically modify governance in Ukrainian universities. The French Colonial Policy of Assimilation and the Civility of the Originaires of the Four Communes (Senegal): A Nineteenth Century Globalization Project
In: Development and change, Band 29, Heft 4, S. 671-696
ISSN: 1467-7660
This article analyses French assimilation policy towards the four communes of the colony of Senegal, placing it in a new conceptual framework of 'globalization' and 'post‐colonial studies'. Between the end of the eighteenth and the middle of the nineteenth century, the four cities of Saint‐Louis, Gorée, Rufisque and Dakar were granted municipal status, while their inhabitants acquired French citizenship. However, the acquisition of these political privileges went together with a refusal on the part of these 'citizens' to submit themselves to the French code civil. Their resistance manifested itself in particular in the forging of an urban culture that differed from both the metropolitan model and the Senegambian models of the independent kingdoms on the colony's fringes or the societies integrated as protectorates. This article argues that, at the very heart of this colonial project and despite its marked assimilationist and jacobin overtones, a strong project of cultural and political hybridization developed. The inhabitants of the quatre communes forged their own civilité which enabled them to participate in a global colonial culture on the basis of local idioms.
Globalization? What is the statute of the local in a world metropolis ; Quelle mondialisation ?

Legal education in the BRICS countries in the context of globalization: a comparative analysis ; Правовое образование в странах БРИКС в условиях глобализации: сравнительный анализ
Legal education in the contemporary world is changing. The main influences are linked to developments in transportation and communication and the enmeshing of diverse economies embraced by globalization. Law schools confront more mobile and more ambitious students who wish to experience different jurisdictional practices, to serve the increasingly global business community and to be more competitive. This research examines the modifications required in legal education as a result of globalization with specific reference to law schools in the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China. Research on higher education, and legal education in particular, has been growing in recent years, yet there is still agap in the study and comparison of the specifics of legal education within the BRICS countries. This research makes an attempt to analyze and contrast the current goals, objectives, structure and quality of higher legal education in Brazil, Russia, India and China. The specifics of law schools have been studied over the past twenty years in correlation with economic, cultural and education trends in BRICS and globally. Based on research literature, practitioner literature and legislative sources, this paper outlines common and special features of lawyer training in BRICS. The prime similarity of the legal education systems in BRICS are global education trends and the influence of the U.S. and UK education systems. Each BRICS country experienced an "explosion" in the popularity of legal education and, consequently, the urgent need to reform the education process in order to attain better quality and affordability. The result of these reforms, taking place in each country from 1950 to today, has become the growing differentiator of the educational institutions, turning them into "elite" and "mass" law schools. The facets of legal education in Brazil, Russia, India and China are attributed to their national policies as well as the historical development of the educational institutions and their perception of what specific lawyer skills and competencies are demanded by the legal market and national population. We conclude that the structure and quality of legal education as well as the requirements and monitoring tools vary in each country. These are dependent on several factors: the specific country's ideology, its economic development, its proximity to an "Eastern" or "Western" model, its ability to learn from foreign education systems and its attempts at self-identification in the global educational space.

Nationalism and democracy in the welfare state
In: Globalization and welfare
"This multidisciplinary book unpacks and outlines the contested roles of nationalism and democracy in the formation and transformation of welfare-state institutions and ideologies. At a time when neo-liberal, post-national and nationalist visions alike have challenged democratic welfare nationalism, the book offers a transnational historical perspective to the political dynamics of current changes. While particularly focusing on Nordic countries, often seen as the quintessential 'models' of the welfare state, the book collectively sheds light on the 'history of the present' of nation states bearing the character of a welfare state. Initial chapters discuss the contested roles and meanings of democracy in the formation of the so-called 'Nordic model' of welfare, exploring its development in connection with rhetorical de-ideologization during and after the Cold War and with concerns about global development. Contributors further examine the ways in which national welfare states and their democratic dimensions are reshaped in the context of post-national regulation regimes of globalized and financialized capitalism. In the final chapters, the book explores the implications of welfare nationalism for cross-border mobility, analysing paradoxes and inherent tensions at the heart of contemporary migration politics. The analyses point to the integral role of nationalism in the formation of the democratic welfare states, as well as in the present-day goals of national competitiveness and security. Providing key theoretical insights for the study of welfare nationalism, this book is essential reading for scholars, researchers and students of the social and political sciences who are interested in the enduring transformation of the welfare state, and particularly those investigating the emergence and growth of the Nordic model. Policymakers and practitioners will also benefit from this multi-layered, empirical account of contemporary policy problems"--
Has globalization of the Japanese economy contributed to satisfying career‐building for women? The case of Japanese female migrants to East Asia
In: Japanese journal of sociology: JJS
ISSN: 2769-1357
AbstractThis paper analyzes the shift in career strategies among Japanese women due to the globalization of Japan's economy since the 1980s. It highlights how economic changes led to a gender‐based division of labor, propelling women to seek opportunities abroad. The research draws on interviews with 81 women who moved to financial centers in East Asia, mainly in Hong Kong and Shanghai, examining their experiences in the workforce, the impact of human resource agencies in their migration, and the challenges and opportunities they encountered. The study reveals a complex landscape where Japanese women navigate gendered expectations and discrimination both in Japan and abroad in pursuit of career advancement. The conclusion emphasizes three points. First, women found opportunities abroad to do what they wanted, even if it was not what they initially expected before leaving Japan. Second, although supportive and subordinate to male managers, their work was indispensable to the management of Japanese companies abroad. Their contribution has long been underestimated but needs to be considered. Third, the experience abroad gave them direct interaction with various clients and colleagues and a view of rapid societal change in Hong Kong and China, contributing to choosing their diverse career trajectories and life plans.
