Insecurity is one of, if not the most glaring and much talked about thing in Nigeria today. Acts of insecurity occur on daily basis throughout the country. Right thinking and sane Nigerians are really concerned about this ugly trend. This paper digs into the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria, its effects on the country and proffers/suggests ways out of this nightmare. The causes amongst so many include fundamentally illiteracy, unemployment/joblessness, poor leadership, porous nature of our boarders, proliferation of arms, non-compliance with the rule of law. The effects are also there – underdevelopment, poverty, hunger, insurgency, militancy, youth restiveness, kidnapping, armed robbery, fear, drug abuse, political thuggery, etc. As part of the way out of this, this paper suggests that 'career' (technical) education be emphasized rather than the 'degree' (non-technical) education. Civics as a subject should be restored in the primary school curriculum; the country be restructured as demanded by most of the populace, community policing introduced and supported; rule of law and quality leadership firmly established and spirit of nationalism enshrined in the minds of the citizenry.

In this sketch, the life and accomplishments of Frieda Fligelman will be explored in depth. Frieda Fligelman was a suffragist based out of Helena, Montana who made great strides for women in higher education and scholarly work. Frieda Fligelman comes from a family of feminist activists with her sister Belle Fligelman Winestine working on Jeanette Rankin's campaign and working as her secretary. Frieda was the first woman ever admitted to the Ph.D. program of Columbia's Political Science field. She worked with renowned anthropologist Franz Boas, as well as breaking major ground in the field of Linguistic Anthropology with her work on the West African Language of Fulani. Sadly, not recognized for her genius at the time she continued to publish many works on West African culture and language, even without the backing of Columbia. Through an examination of archival sources and her published writings including a book of her poems called Notes of a Novel, I hope to highlight the incredible contributions of Frieda Fligelman, as well as shine a much-deserved light on the struggles she faced as a woman in her pursuit of higher education and scholarly work.

To contribute the achievement of sustainable development (SD) goals the Government's real commitment on SD thoughts in both central and local levels is one of the most important factors. MDGs express widespread public concern about development's related issues. The Republic of Yemen and the Republic of India, both are eastern countries in the continent of Asia, sharing its cultural and historical heritage. Regarding the development indicators, in 2011 Yemen was among the least developed countries whereas India among the medium developed countries. This paper mainly depended on the secondary data. It depends on the national reports in Yemen and India additional to the international organizations' reports. It exposes first the main indicators (i.e. Economic, Social, and Environmental) which are the constituents of SD dimensions. The purpose is to get representative access towards comprehending the existing situations while conducting the study. Then, the study outlines detailed schedules and tables about the indicators of the development sectors in the two countries such as the sectors of education, higher education, health, agriculture, water, sanitation, roads, energy and communications with some analyzes and discussions about the extent of achieving MDGs in each sector.

It is vital to understand the structural and institutional dynamics behind female empowerment as its realization benefits not only women but also society at large. Drawing on an original, global-level dataset that covers 169 countries between 1960-2014, this article mainly explores the effect of urbanization onwomen's empowerment throughout the world. The article argues that urbanization has distinctive effects in different realms of female empowerment in politics, economics, and education, with the biggest impact being in education. The article further states that urbanization has a non-linear effect on women's empowerment with a diminishing impact at higher levels of urbanization. After certain levels of urbanization, other political and economic factors, such as how democratic and economically affluent a country is, will determine the discrepancies of female empowerment in countries with similar levels of urbanization. To further test the stated hypotheses, the article looks at the Turkish case as a typical example of a patriarchal society with a neoliberal economic order. In light of the global and local level analyses, the paper aims to contribute to extant debates and studies in feminist studies, urban studies, modernization theory, and democratization.

Three Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ireland are accredited to provide education and training, successful completion of which, entitles one to register as a pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI). Legislation (2014) mandated that these HEIs replace their existing structure (four-year degree followed by a one-year internship), with a five-year 'integrated Master's programme'. Integration includes 'in-service practical training' (placement) at the beginning of Year 4 (four months), and the end of Year 5 (eight months). Year 4 placements do not have to be 'patient-facing'. Students receive a Bachelor's degree at the end of Year 4. The Affiliation for Pharmacy Practice Experiential Learning (APPEL), established by the HEIs, manages student placements, training establishments, preceptor training, the preceptors' competency assessment process, and the virtual learning environment (VLE) that enables delivery of co-developed online modules aligned with placements in Years 4 and 5. This case report aims to describe the process by which this integration has taken place across and within these HEIs and the challenges faced by educators, students, preceptors, and other stakeholders along the way.

The present article aims to describe and discuss the actions implemented from 2014 to 2018 at the federal level in the context of the Intersectoral Strategy to Prevent and Control Obesity issued by the Brazilian federal government. The goal of the Intersectoral Strategy is to prevent and control obesity based on six action plans: 1) availability and access to adequate and healthy foods; 2) education, communication, and information; 3) promotion of healthy lifestyles in specific environments/territories; 4) food and nutrition surveillance; 5) comprehensive care for individuals presenting obesity in the health care network; and 6) regulation and control of the quality and harmlessness of food. To gather information, semi-structured questionnaires were submitted to representatives from the ministries of Education, Health, Planning, Citizenship, and Agrarian Development. The actions implemented in the period were described in terms of the six action plans. Positive results were achieved through the shared management model adopted, even though many challenges still remain. The agenda for action proposed in the Intersectoral Strategy is attuned to the Brazilian context, and intersectoral management was still in place until the writing of the present article.

Subjective wellbeing (i.e. life satisfaction and happiness) impacts youth's social, economic and political participation. Prior studies have documented cross-national variation in subjective wellbeing of adults but there is a lack of data on the prevalence and correlates of subjective wellbeing among youth in low and middle income countries. This paper utilizes data from an international dataset - Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys to assess the influence of structural and micro-level factors on the subjective wellbeing of youth (ages 15 – 24) in 29 countries or regions in Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. We find that within countries, global life satisfaction and happiness are associated with age, education attainment, place of residence, marital status, household wealth and exposure to mass media. Significant interactions between age, gender and education are observed. However, none of the country level development indicators account for cross-national variation in youth's SWB although there is some indication that income inequities between countries may influence youth's SWB. The findings underscore the need for objective measures of subjective wellbeing to understand the conditions in LMICs.

Objectives. To understand the experiences of local health jurisdictions with Senate Bill 277 (SB277), the California law that eliminated nonmedical vaccine exemptions for public- and private-school entry. Methods. We conducted semistructured telephone interviews with health officers and local health department (LHD) staff in California between August and September 2017. Results. Two overall themes emerged: (1) vague legislative and regulatory language led to variation in the interpretation and implementation of SB277, and (2) lack of centralized review of medical exemptions allowed medical exemptions that are not consistent with valid contraindications for immunizations to be accepted. Variation in the interpretation and implementation was commonly reported with provisions related to individualized education programs and special education, and independent study programs and homeschooling. Without a centralized review of medical exemption requests, respondents reported variation in the interpretation of which specialties of physicians can write medical exemptions, which conditions constitute a valid contraindication for immunization, and the process for reporting a questionable or suspicious medical exemption. Conclusions. The regulatory language within SB277 led to variation in how the law was interpreted and implemented within and across LHD jurisdictions and school districts.

Background: This paper is a summary of the findings from an ethnographic study on child developmental disabilities conducted partly in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties in Kenya. Methods: Quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were applied for the period between mid August and mid November 2018. The study was conducted through the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) situated in Nairobi County. Results: There are parents who are willing to migrate in search of better education and healthcare options for their children who have developmental disabilities (DDs). However, there are also government reforms taking place in the field of disability that may help to support the caregiving role for children with special needs. The challenges, bargaining position and power play between parents or guardians and other actors implicated in the debates on inclusion and integration of persons with developmental disabilities in Kenya has been brought to the forefront. Conclusions: In Kenya, more needs to be done to change the attitude towards disability from the medical and moral (religious/cultural) models to an approach leaning towards the social model, so that developmental disabilities are not viewed negatively.

AIM: Regional core centers for the management of liver disease, which are located in every prefecture in Japan, not only take the lead in hepatitis care in their respective regions, but also serve a wide range of other functions, such as education, promotion of hepatitis testing, treatment, and research. METHOD: Since fiscal year 2010, the Hepatitis Information Center has conducted surveys of regional core centers throughout Japan regarding information about their facilities, programs for patient support, training, and education of medical personnel. RESULTS: By compiling and analyzing the results of these surveys, we have elucidated the status of regional core centers and the issues they currently have. We found that regional core centers have come to play widely varied roles in hepatitis treatment and have expanded their programs. These surveys also suggest that uniform accessibility of hepatitis treatment has been implemented throughout Japan. CONCLUSION: To continue serving their diverse roles, regional core centers require further development of hepatitis care networks that include specialized institutions, primary care physicians, and local and central governments; as well as collaboration with other professions and groups.

Cannabis is now legal in Canada, yet important questions remain regarding how the provinces and territories are approaching cannabis education and messaging aimed at youth. Although widespread education and awareness campaigns are long considered cornerstones of substance use and related harm prevention, there is limited evidence to support the effectiveness of such campaigns. We continue to see examples of cannabis-related messaging that focus on risk and harm and often adopt a narrow view of the ways in which young people may use cannabis. This traditional risk-based messaging does not resonate with how many youth experience cannabis use. We have further observed that most provinces and territories have yet to fully reveal concrete details regarding what they are and have been planning in terms of youth engagement in the development and delivery of educational initiatives. As Canadian youth desire reliable, evidence-based educational material on cannabis, and can be credible key partners in the development of such materials, we hope that all levels of government will see the value of promoting balanced cannabis discussions and co-designing resources with youth.

Analysis of the results suggests that all sensors in the IMU (i.e. magnetometer, accelerometer, barometer and gyroscope) contribute unique information in the classification of volleyball-specific actions. We demonstrate that while the accelerometer feature set provides the best Unweighted Average Recall (UAR) overall, "decision fusion" of the accelerometer with the magnetometer improves UAR slightly from 85.86% to 86.9%. Interestingly, it is also demonstrated that the non-dominant hand provides better UAR than the dominant hand.
