In reflecting on the contributions to this collection, the afterword outlines three ways of understanding violence—direct physical force, structural violence and cultural or symbolic violence—and relates these to Steven Lukes' three faces of power. It revisits Weber's definition of the modern state as claiming a monopoly of the legitimate use of the first kind of violence, and contrasts that with the ways in which the actual practice of South Asian politics implies or requires violence. The example of state and non-state violence in Nepal in 2015 is used to illustrate these themes. This example brings out, as several contributions do, the importance of borders as violence-provoking sites of state sensitivity.

In the research, there are analyzed main principles of democracy, main global processes, which are going on in the modern World, related to the increasing the number of the democratic states from one side, and main threats and challenges, which seriously hamper the further enlargement of democracy from the other side. Among them, it should be pointed out about conflicts, terrorism, poverty, lack of knowledge of the World Population about main principles of democracy and human rights, North-South gap etc. In the last part of the paper, is presented the point of view, how the factor of education can influence on the further democratization of the World.

The article discusses the features and risks of development of civil qualities of the regional youth. The social research data describing the level of civic consciousness of students of the southern macro-region are reviewed.

This article explores the case of the Larzac plateau in southern France which was the site of protests against the extension of a military base in the 1970s. It analyses the development of the site as a focus of local, national and transnational protest, drawing in post-1968 gauchistes in France and West Germany. After the cancellation of the military base the Larzac protest became a model for protest from Latin America to the Pacific against the threats of globalization, which in turn transformed local protest. The limits of transnationalism were nevertheless demonstrated by contested understandings of the Larzac model of non-violent protest by activists from different contexts with their own agendas.

The redistribution of meals and feasting practices in the early centralized society of Arslantepe VI A in south-eastern Anatolia (Late Chalcolithic 5 – 3300/3000 cal. BCE) are presented in this paper as examples of commensal politics. Within the framework of Mesopotamian early state formation, this period represents a stimulating case because of the evidence of economic centralization, the significant amount of materials found in in situ contexts, and the presence of functionally distinct architecture. Food and beverages were the economic base of the power of elites; yet it is not only through feasting activities that food enters Late Chalcolithic gastro-politics, but also through the meals disbursed in exchange for labor

The possibilities of institutionalism are explored as an interdisciplinary methodology, synthesizing the modern achievements of philosophy and political science, economic theory, institutional economics and sociology, which describes the interactions between economic subjects more accurately, including the goverment and business on the market of public procurement. There are received solutions for problem situations in the system of the russian public procument on the way of institutionalization of centralized model on the micro level (for example, the Southern Federal University), as well as on the macrolevel in the frame of formation of Federal Contract System, aimed to integrate all stages of goverment contracting – planning, placing the order, controlling and enforcement of state contract.

The Northern Territory Government proposes to convert Berrimah Farm on the southern outskirts of Darwin, NT into an urban residential subdivision. Areas of Berrimah Farm are located within 1.5km of tidal mangrove areas, and were expected to experience seasonal populations of pest biting midges. Seasonally flooded areas located within and adjacent to Berrimah Farm were also expected to be sources of pest and disease carrying mosquitoes. Due to the potential for significant populations of biting insects, the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) commissioned Medical Entomology (ME), of the Department of Health and Families (DHF) to conduct a biting insect assessment of the Berrimah Farm site. ; Date:2009-09

Research begins from May to August of 2011 at The Governor Office of South Sulawesi Province. The objective of research is to understand and to analyze the direct and indirect effect of woman leadership style and organizational culture on locus of control, work achievement, and work satisfaction of employee. Research type is explanatory with survey method. The respondent is the work unit under the leadership of woman. Sampling technique is minimized sample method which results in 135 respondents. Data analysis method is Structure Equation Modeling (SEM). Result of analysis indicates that women leadership style is having positive and significant effect on locus of control, work achievement, and work satisfaction of employee.

Wilson Professor of Political Science at the University of Rochester, became APSA's 108th president on September 4, 2011, at the close of the APSA Annual Meeting. This article studies comparatively the property restitution policies of Eastern and Western Balkan countries, focusing mostly on internal and external constraints to a permanent solution. The role of the European Court of Human Rights is analyzed in depth, as well as the subtle shift of policy of the EU institutions from the earlier Eastern Balkan accession to the Western Balkans one. While the situation of property restitution in South-Eastern Europe provides clear evidence that Europeanization helps transformation, particularly if the EU openly assumes the role of a transformation agent, it also highlights the limits of its power. Upon reinstatement of independence of Lithuania in 1918, needed to solve the most popular problem – to lay the independence foundations. Upon reinstatement of political foundations Lithuania had to: protect from neighbouring countries, solve social problems, build a stable economic system. These methods helped in creation a better life of Lithuanians, reduce the prospects of emigration flows. Unfortunately, a stable economic system in Lithuania was quite complex, all of the time of extending the process. Most of the time people were directly confronted with the reality of scarce life: lack of work, social security, low wages, wchich became the reason for emigration to the North or South American countrys.

The South China Sea, and the Spratly Islands in particular, have become the focus of tension between the uncertain limits of China's rise and the discomfort of its Southeast Asian neighbours at the prospect of becoming China's backyard. The regional concerns of Southeast Asia overlap with the global concerns of the United States. The tension has been reframed by the global crisis of economic uncertainty that began in 2008 and sharpened by rhetorical confrontations in 2010. Because of the limited utility and adverse consequences of decisive unilateral action by any party, the dispute is likely to continue as a symbol of discord until it is defused by multilateral guidelines.
