Investigating the dynamics of identity and sexual citizenship in a changing world, this compelling text explores key debates around human rights and representation, policy and resistance. Incorporating theory with original research, this is a thought-provoking insight into sexuality and diversity in a global age.

A two-phase, cross-section and case study design examined the level of youth involvement in the decision-making processes of youth-serving organizations and the effects of diversity training on organizational support for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) adolescents. Results indicate the organizations studied differed with respect to levels of youth involvement, but did not significantly differ with respect to the outcome variable. In-depth analysis to open-response questions indicated organizational support is extremely varied and organizations do support diversity, but not necessarily in regard to LGBT adolescents. The LGBT content within diversity training programs is also discussed. Finally, some religious ideas or beliefs seem to negatively affect the environment in youth-serving organizations in regard to support for LGBT adolescents. Implications for further research, youth practitioners and organizations are discussed.

Using data from a 1998 SHRM survey, this study examines the prevalence and nature of diversity initiatives in Fortune 500 companies. The rhetoric of diversity in industry suggests that a diverse workforce is good for business. Diversity is typically defined in terms of such demographic factors as race, age, gender, ethnic background, and, to a lessor extent, sexual orientation. Our analysis shows that most Fortune 500 companies have some diversity initiatives, but that these initiatives are disproportionately aimed at certain minority groups. Thus, there appears to be a political economy of diversity in which some categories of diversity are valued over others. We place this analysis within the larger context of a changing economic, occupational and political factors affecting the diversity movement.

En juin 2021, le parlement ghanéen a présenté un projet de loi criminalisant les personnes LGBT+ et leurs défenseur·e·s. Les partisans du texte œuvrent à créer un mouvement assimilant l'appartenance à la nation à la culture hétérosexuelle. Peuples, identités, expressions et désirs locaux échappant à l'hétéronormativité sont considérés comme des menaces étrangères et existentielles pour la nation. L'article montre comment la volonté de réprimer ces catégories sociales les rend visibles tout en suscitant un débat public. La mobilisation d'idéologies religieuses à prédominance chrétienne, historiquement diffusées par la colonisation, sert la cause d'une prétendue protection des « traditions » et des « valeurs » ghanéennes. Les partisans de la loi tentent de s'assurer le monopole de la vérité à travers la création de nouveaux discours sur ces minorités et sur les « valeurs familiales ghanéennes ».

Objectives. To explore differences in the appointment & election method of selecting state high court justices in promoting gender diversity, & to explore the effect of existing gender diversity within the political institutions on the selection of women to office. Methods. Our data include all justices who have been selected to state courts of last resort from 1980-1997. We use logistic regression analysis to test the effect of existing gender diversity on a high court on the likelihood that a woman will be selected to fill a vacancy. Results. Women are significantly more likely to be selected to a state high court when initially appointed, & this effect is particularly pronounced when the governor is Democratic. When an appointment system is used, women are much more likely to be appointed to an all-male court than to a gender-diverse court. Conclusions. Appointment systems are more likely to create gender diversity on state courts; however, this effect operates primarily to diversify all-male courts. This difference between appointment & election systems may reflect differences in knowledge between elite actors & the mass public about the composition of the institution. 2 Tables, 1 Figure, 46 References. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present a model that explores the relationship between inclusive leadership, inclusive climates and sexual harassment and other negative work-related outcomes, at the work unit and individual levels.Design/methodology/approachA conceptual model of inclusive work unit leadership, inclusive work unit climate and sexual harassment based on a review of the literature.FindingsLeaders who behave more inclusively are expected to have work units and work unit members who experience more positive outcomes and fewer negative outcomes including sexual harassment and other forms of mistreatment. Leaders impact their work unit and work unit members' outcomes directly as well as indirectly through the more inclusive work unit climates they create.Research limitations/implicationsThe sexual harassment literature has identified climate for sexual harassment as a key predictor of sexually harassing behavior and its attendant negative outcomes. A focus on a broader inclusive climate, and inclusive leadership, may provide a richer understanding of the conditions under which sexual harassment and other forms of mistreatment occur and can be mitigated.Practical implicationsThis model can help identify strategies organizations can employ (e.g. inclusive leadership development programs) to combat sexual harassment.Social implicationsThis model may improve understanding of the systemic, organizational causes of sexual harassment reducing sexual harassment victims' potential self-blame and helping policymakers craft more effective sexual harassment interventions.Originality/valueThe paper conceives of work climates that contribute to sexual harassment more broadly than generally has been the case in the sexual harassment literature to date. The model highlights the important role that leaders play in shaping inclusive climates. It also contributes to the nascent literature on inclusion and inclusive climates, which has paid relatively little attention to exclusion and mistreatment including sexual harassment that are likely to arise in less inclusive workplaces.

Children's professionals have a duty to celebrate diversity and educate children and young people to respect same-sex relationships

Alumnxs con madres y/o padres del mismo sexo, docentes que luchan por ser respetadxs con independencia de sus elecciones sexogenéricas, o niñxs que deciden cambiar su identidad, son ejemplos concretos de los modos en que las escuelas comienzan a abrirse a la experiencia de las diversidades corporales, sexuales e identitarias. Sin embargo, aunque existen programas de educación sexual y hubo avances significativos en materia de protección de estas experiencias, las violencias contra jóvenes LGBTI siguen persistiendo. En este artículo nos interesa plantear dicha tensión a partir de un mapeo de estudios y relevamientos estadísticos que vienen dando cuenta de la continuidad de las violencias, los hostigamientos y agresiones que sufren aquellxs estudiantes jóvenes que no siguen las normas hegemónicas de los géneros. Por otra parte, proponemos una reflexión sobre la necesidad de algunos recaudos conceptuales en los modos de nombrar estas violencias con el fin de reposicionarlas como "violencia por prejuicio contra las orientaciones sexuales y las identidades de género no normativas", en el marco de las violencias de género. También comprendiéndolas como fenómenos sociales y no como "casos" individuales. Finalmente proponemos algunas líneas orientativas sobre lo que consideramos un tipo de educación sexual socialmente relevante (Britzman, 2002). ; Students with parents (mother and/or father) with the same-sexpartner; teachers who fight for equality of gender minorities, and childrens who decide to change their gender identity, are examples of the way in which schools become opens to the body, sexual, and identity experience. In this regard, in a first section, though one can recognize formal improvements in government programs of sex education, violence against LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersexual) young still persists. In this paper we discuss this aparent contradiction on the light of quatitative data which show current and sistematic violence against young students who do not identify them self with hegemonic gender/sexual identities. In a second section, we present some conceptual recalls in the ways of naming these violence for the purpose of repositioning them as "violence for prejudice against sexual orientations and non-normative gender identities", within the framework of gender violence, understanding them as social phenomena and not as individual "cases".
