La mort, à quelques semaines de distance, de ces trois personnalités marquantes autour desquelles se résume la naissance de la grande œuvre internationale de la Croix-Rouge, a frappé plusieurs publicistes. On sait que Florence Nightingale, celle qu'on a appelée « la reine des infirmières », et qui fut la première héroïne de la Croix-Rouge avant la lettre, est morte le 13 août 1910 à l'âge de quatre-vingt-dix ans; que Gustave Moynier, le véritable architecte de cette institution officiellement reconnue un peu partout, est décédé une semaine plus tard, le 21 août 1910, dans sa quatre-vingttroisième année, et qu'enfin Henry Dunant, qui en conçut la première idée, est mort deux mois plus tard, le 30 octobre 1910, à l'âge de quatre-vingt-deux ans.

In its Circular No. 456 of August 23, 1964, the International Committee of the Red Cross had the honour to invite the Central Committees of National Societies to send in the names of nurses and voluntary aids whom they judged qualified to receive the Florence Nightingale Medal. This invitation, which quoted Article 1 of the Regulations, was accompanied by questionnaires bearing various headings for the candidatures.

Modern nursing is complex, ever changing, and multi focused. Since the time of Florence Nightingale, however, the goal of nursing has remained unchanged, namely to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes patient health and well being. Effective use of an interpersonal tool, such as advocacy, enhances the care-giving environment. Nightingale used advocacy early and often in the development of modern nursing. By reading her many letters and publications that have survived, it is possible to identify her professional goals and techniques. Specifically, Nightingale valued egalitarian human rights and developed leadership principles and practices that provide useful advocacy techniques for nurses practicing in the 21st century. In this article we will review the accomplishments of Florence Nightingale, discuss advocacy in nursing and show how Nightingale used advocacy through promoting both egalitarian human rights and leadership activities. We will conclude by exploring how Nightingale's advocacy is as relevant for the 21st century as it was for the 19th century.

La Florence de la fin du Moyen Age, une société profondément imprégnée par l'idée et la pratique d'un « temps nouveau » et caractérisée par le développement extraordinaire de ces singulières inventions d'écriture qu'étaient les livres dericordanze, offre un terrain idéal pour l'étude de la mémoire, que l'on en privilégie l'aspect de patrimoine personnel ou que l'on en identifie les espaces d'expression les plus typiques dans la famille, le groupe professionnel ou culturel, la communauté urbaine. Mais cette constatation est surtout valable pour les sommets de la hiérarchie sociale, pour le monde desmercatores.

El 24 de agosto de 1984, en su circular núm. 530, el Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja invitó a que los comités centrales de las Sociedades Nacionales presentasen los nombres de las enfermeras diplomadas y de las auxiliares voluntarias miembros activos o colaboradoras regulares de la Sociedad Nacional o de una institutión de asistencia médica o enfermera a la misma afiliada que considerasen calificadas para recibir la Medalla Florence Nightingale.La finalidad de esta medalla es honrar la valentía y la abnegación excepcionales en favor de heridos, de enfermos, de inválidos o de personas amenazadas en su salud que hayan demostrado las infermeras o las auxiliares en tiempo de guerra o en tiempo de paz.

Objetivo: Describir la influencia del modelo de cuidado de Florence Nightingale en la formación académica de la enfermería en Brasil y buscar su acercamiento a la cultura brasileña desde el inicio de su construcción profesional. Método: En el año 2020, con motivo del bicentenario del nacimiento de Nightingale, surge la narrativa como herramienta para reinterpretar y reflexionar sobre su pensamiento pionero, dentro del desarrollo de la Enfermería Contemporánea. Resultados: El texto describe cómo desde principios de la segunda década del siglo XX, el pensamiento de Florence Nightingale influyó en la enseñanza teorico-práctica de la enfermería en Brasil. El modelo educativo implementado por enfermeras estadounidenses fue estandarizado a nivel nacional por el gobierno brasileño, lanzando como base científica el reconocimiento del modelo profesional ingles dentro de la formación de las enfermeras, con características de diseño norteamericanas y con una dirección a culturada. Conclusiones: La narrativa describe el desarrollo de la enfermería contemporánea en Brasil, cuyo modelo se fundamentó en los principios de Nightingale, sin perder las señas de identidad de cultural y siguiendo la influencia de la Escuela de Enfermeras Dona Anna Nery, creada en 1923. ; Objective: To describe the trajectory of the nightingalean nursing teaching model in use in Brazil and to seek a possible approach to Brazilian culture in the beginning of this professional construction. Method: Narrativity comes as a tool to reinterpret and reflect on the spread of Contemporaneous Nursing and the importance of the pioneer Florence Nightingale on her bicentenary of birth, celebrated this year of 2020. Results: The text describes how the thinking of Florence Nightingale influenced the teaching and practice of nursing in Brazil, from the beginning of the second decade of the twentieth century, and the teaching model implemented by American nurses with the Brazilian government, nationally standardized, launching as scientific bases the professional recognition of training nurses with the characteristic design, not only of the original English model, since the direction was acculturated with characters from North America. Conclusions: The narrative describes the development of the modern phase of nursing in Brazil with a model idealized in nightingalean principles without losing the characteristic features of the Brazilian culture of the beginning of the 20th century, whose influence was the Dona Anna Nery School of Nurses, created in 1923. ; Objetivo: Descrever em trajetória do modelo de ensino de enfermagem nightingaleano em uso no Brasil e buscar uma aproximação possível com a cultura brasileira nos primórdios dessa construção profissional. Método: A narratividade vem como uma ferramenta para reinterpretar e refletir sobre a difusão da Enfermagem Contemporânea e a importância da pioneira Florence Nightingale, em particular, por ocasião de seu bicentenário de nascimento, celebrado neste ano de 2020. Resultados: O texto vem descrever como o pensamento de Florence Nightingale influenciou o ensino e a prática de enfermagem no Brasil, a partir do início da segunda década do século XX, e o modelo de ensino implantado por enfermeiras norte-americanas junto ao governo brasileiro, padronizado nacionalmente, lançando como bases científicas o reconhecimento profissional de formação de enfermeiras com o desenho característico, não apenas do original modelo inglês, uma vez que a direção estava aculturada de caracteres provenientes da América do Norte. Conclusões: A narrativa descreve o desenvolvimento da fase contemporânea da enfermagem no Brasil com um modelo idealizado em princípios nightingaleanos sem perder os traços característicos da cultura brasileira própria do início do século XX, cujo influenciador foi a Escola de Enfermeiras Dona Anna Nery, criada em 1923.

On May 8, when the world of the Red Cross, the Red Crescent and Red Lion and Sun each year commemorates Henry Dunanfs memory, the movement has chosen its universality as a rallying standard for all National Societies in 1966.
