Daily travel distance in urban China has substantially increased. The spatial layout of the 15-minute neighborhood, which supports local living and encourages walking and biking, was detailed in the Urban Residential District Planning and Design Standards in China in 2018. This study investigates the impacts of the 15-minute neighborhood described in the 2018 standards on activity space, using mobile network data in Qingdao, China. A total of 42,991 subscribers of China Mobile are randomly sampled. The 15-minute neighborhood attributes are objectively measured for sampled residents individually. Our study shows that not all 15-minute neighborhood attributes are associated with smaller activity space. Commercial retail services and green open space, which were found to increase walking and physical activity, do not reduce activity space. On the other hand, public services such as primary school and middle school, bus stops, neighborhood centers, and sports facilities within walking distance are positively associated with smaller activity space.

Science and technology studies (STS) scholars have turned their attention to the materiality of objects and buildings in order to examine what they make users do in practice. Taking a close look at a therapeutic community in a psychiatric day care center for teenagers, this paper joins these discussions by exploring the materiality of "spaces of care" as part of the center's everyday practice. The analysis incorporates the concepts of scripts and dispositifs to describe the conditions of possibility in which caregivers and youths may position themselves in relation to others and to the space itself. This paper describes how spaces of care offer open, enticing, and variable conditions for fostering a dynamic of personal and relational responses as part of the care work. In this sense, the material environment entails potentialities in ways that are unpredictable but nonetheless consequential. Rather than arguing that material arrangements and things act, this paper draws attention to their impact via their potential within dispositifs of care that request participants' attentiveness and responsiveness. Describing these potentialities brings out the subtler requirements of material environments in care practices that aim at circumventing the coercion of disciplinary spaces and their impersonal classifications.

Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt, dass durch die internationale Arbeitsmigration innerhalb des globalen Südens unterschiedliche Entwicklungsprozesse entstehen. Durch diese Prozesse können räumliche sowie kulturelle Besonderheiten und Entwicklungsvorstellungen lokalisiert werden. Die Autorin zeigt, wie diese Vorstellungen eingebettet sind, lokal ausgehandelt werden und schließlich zur Konstituierung neuer politischer, sozialer und kultureller Räume führen. Geschlecht und Geschlechtbeziehungen sind in diesem Zusammenhang von Bedeutung, weil sie notwendig sind, um die Unterschiedlichkeit der Vorstellungen zu erklären und außerdem um deutlich zu machen, dass Geschlecht ein konstituierender Faktor von Migration ist. Die geschlechtsspezifische Strukturierung von Globalisierungsprozessen generell und von internationaler Migration im speziellen wurde allerdings bisher - sowohl in öffentlichen Diskussionen als auch wissenschaftlichen Debatten - vernachlässigt. Die Autorin geht zunächst auf die Entstehung neuer entwicklungstheoretischer Ansätze ein. Im Anschluss daran wird die weibliche Perspektive von Migration am Beispiel Malaysia beleuchtet. Abschließend untersucht die Autorin die männliche Migration im Kontext der Islamisierung. (ICD)

In this paper, an existence theorem is obtained for nontrival solutions of semilinear equations in reflexive Banach spaces with the duality technique in infinite-dimensional spaces and the nonsmooth mountain pass theorem, a new existence theorem is then obtained for nonzero periodic solutions of suplinear nonautonomous Hamiltonian systems with the abstract results.

Descriptive models of the EU political space are fundamental components of both descriptions of EU politics and theories of EU policy making. But there is no consensus on which, if any, model accurately captures the EU political space. In this article, the authors seekto advance their understanding of the EU political space by bringing evidence to bear on the accuracy of four extant models. Following the methodology used to analyze the national political space of Euro-pean democracies, they assemble and code manifestos of party federations written prior to Euro-pean elections. They then use confirmatory factor analysis to analyze the underlying structure of these party federations'policy positions. They also examine temporal differences in party feder-ation positions over several sets of issues. The results of the study indicate that the EU political space is basically one dimensional and similar to the domestic Left-Right dimension in policy content.

Informal learning spaces, such as summer reading programs, have the potential to both motivate children and provide opportunities for preservice teachers to try out new practices. However, there is little research on the talk that occurs in these informal learning spaces, particularly those intended to function as third spaces. Audio recordings of meetings between preservice teachers and high school students talking together about young adult literature in a space intended to function as a third space were analyzed to explore how discourse choices shaped the participants' practices. We found that the participants both resisted and reproduced the traditional classroom in their talk, suggesting that the successful design of third spaces is a complex endeavor.

В конце XIX века картографы Габсбургской и Российской империй принадлежали к общему "империуму знания", в котором особая ценность отводилась государственным ресурсам. Процесс геополитического конструирования посредством создания географических карт интеллектуально и политически был связан с практиками европейского государственного управления и с эпистемологическими структурами европейской картографии, характерными для концептуализации национальностей в Восточной и Центральной Европе. В статье анализируются "научные" доказательства национальности/ этничности, использовавшиеся в территориальном и экстратерриториальном картографировании Литвы, Украины и Польши. Картографы сравнивали "научно" выделенные практики и структуры. Анализ данной политики сравнения позволяет автору статьи увидеть корни современных метагеографических претензий на национальную аутентичность на территории оспариваемых разными группами населения имперских окраин.

Abstract
This paper interrogates how English language teaching and learning spaces become a locus for a "pedagogy of personality": spaces where ideal forms of personhood can be transmitted, taught and learned. We draw on ethnographic accounts of moments produced in a municipal English language teaching programme in Rionegro, Colombia, and in the English language class of an elite international school near Barcelona, in Catalonia. We explore discourses mobilised by teachers, students, and school administrators that glorify personality traits that should enable students to become "good community members", "good citizens" and to reflect on the ways in which language learning spaces are imagined to have an effect on learners' personalities. We claim that it is not necessarily the English competence acquired in these spaces, or the act of speaking English itself, which is imagined as automatically triggering the enactment of 'better' forms of personality. Rather, we believe that our ethnographic data point to the fact that language curricula provide the space to construct, spread and normalise moral values which are associated to idealised forms of subjectivity, and desired forms of being. The discourses circulated through landscapes and classroom interactions show how the mere act of being in an English language learning space is expected to raise students' awareness of the moral duty to become better, more responsible individuals. We make a key contribution to critical sociolinguistic research by placing a focus on how "good personality" is informed by the pedagogic trajectories of each space, beyond neoliberal projects of self. Moralising catholic discourses, values and ideologies, and broader humanist educational discourses inform ideas about personality and personality development in these spaces. Thus, we call for a slower sociolinguistics, that takes pause before reaching for the explanatory power of neoliberalism and makes room for the complex, historically sedimented logics of our research sites.
