Trends in global business course, as well as globalization process have
caused the need for more clear and significant demonstration of social
responsibility in all business segments. For a long time, at business
organization level, ethical and moral expectations of management have been
present, as way to contribute to community development and welfare. This
concept is known as corporate social responsibility concept (CSR). The aim of
this paper was to show the existence of elements of CSR concept in
scientific-research organizations. First part of paper present literature
overview shaping by different theory about definition of CSR. Investigation
is present in second part of this paper. The survey was conducted on a sample
of almost 30% of these organizations in the Republic of Serbia, presented on
the basis of perception that employees and managers have about social
responsibilities of institutes were they work. Survey results indicates, that
the scientific-research organizations are represented elements of the concept
of CSR, but two-way communication between management and employees is not
sufficiently present, which directly reflects the different image, both of
them have, about socially responsibility.

The intention of this article is to try to recover a critical dialog between the politics and the social work. In this paper it argued that the politics is a dimension of the identity of the social work of which we cannot avoid. In this way, the politics and the social work, are doubly tied. On the one hand, the political power exercise corresponds to every citizen of the polis. And, on the other hand, the social work is narrowly tied to the social politics by means of its object of study. Our arguments it's construct from a diagnosis of the social reality and professional that is held in this specific relationship. We claim to contribute with elements of analyses that help, not only to understand, but also answering politically as professionals of the social work and as citizen in the society. ; Este artículo trata de recuperar un diálogo crítico entre la política y el trabajo social. Se argumenta que la política es una dimensión de la identidad del trabajo social de la que no podemos sustraernos. De ahí que la política y el trabajo social están doblemente ligados porque, por un lado, el ejercicio del poder político corresponde a todo ciudadano en el cuidado de la polis; por otro, el trabajo social está estrechamente vinculado a la política social por medio de su objeto de estudio. Para construir nuestros argumentos partimos de un diagnóstico de la realidad social y profesional que se sostiene en determinados supuestos que configuran esta relación específica. Pretendemos con todo ello aportar elementos de análisis que ayuden, no sólo a comprender, sino a contribuir con nuestras respuestas, información y participación, a la política, tanto como profesionales del trabajo social como por ser ciudadanos de la sociedad civil.

Ethics, social responsibility, leadership, governance. These terms are heard in the classroom, in the boardroom, and viewed on the front page of newspapers and magazines. Yet serious attention to the relationships among these concepts is lacking. Although commitments to leadership, ethics, and social responsibility are evident, individuals and companies are falling short in combining these duties into policies and cultures that guide behavior and decisions. The missing element is a broad-based and integrated approach to responsible leadership and governance. Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine whether banks' commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is related to the diversification of their activities and whether CSR, as a result, affects banks' risk profile.


Design/methodology/approach
Using a sample of 215 publicly traded U.S. bank holding companies between 1996 and 2016, this study applies regression analysis to examine the links between CSR and activity diversification and risk-taking. It also conducts a mediation test to determine whether CSR affects risk through its influence on banks' activity diversification.


Findings
The results of this study show that banks engaging in positive CSR activities significantly increase the diversification of their banking activities, consistent with the theory that CSR serves as an implicit risk hedging strategy. Mediation analysis provides evidence that this translates into more stable and less risky banks.


Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by suggesting that activity diversification is a channel through which CSR reduces bank risk and improves asset quality.

Corporate social responsibility has gained increasing popularity among managers and investors. Many firms commit significant resources and consider CSR as a part of their long-term strategic plan. Whether corporate social responsibility affects corporate financial information quality has been an important question. Using a big sample of corporations in the U.S., I study the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate financial information quality. I find a significant and positive relationship between CSR and financial information quality. This relationship is robust to potential endogeneity concerns. These findings have important implications for financial disclosure, CSR, and corporate strategy.

PurposeThis paper aims to examine the impact of political uncertainty and instability caused by the 2011 Egyptian revolution on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices of Egyptian firms. The study provides empirical evidence to support the link between political instability, financial performance, stock market uncertainty and CSR in the post-revolution context of Egypt.Design/methodology/approachData on CSR practices in Egypt were collected through a survey of Egyptian firms and content analysis of annual reports from publicly traded firms. The final survey sample consisted of 99 listed Egyptian companies. Structural equation modeling was performed to examine the relationship between the variables of this study.FindingsThe results of the study show that political instability is perceived to have a significant positive effect on the CSR practices of Egyptian firms. The results also reveal that the financial performance of firms is perceived not to be affected by the political instability after the 2011 Revolution as opposed to stock market uncertainty, which is perceived to be significantly affected. However, financial performance and stock market uncertainty have a significant positive influence on the CSR practices of Egyptian firms.Originality/valueThis paper capitalizes institutional theory to capture the complex interactions between organizations and their external institutional environments. Previous studies tackling CSR in unstable political environments in the African context focused on countries with prolonged periods of violent conflict and on more localized forms of conflicts. Yet, little is known about CSR during the occurrence of different types of political instabilities in other African countries.

AbstractAwareness on issues relating to business ethics in corporate social responsibility (CSR), good corporate governance (GCG), and environmental social governance (ESG) has significantly increased in the last decade in the academic and professional fields. As a consequence, a large number of theoretical and empirical studies, research and professional publications, and guidelines have been published. This trend toward academic scrutiny is a significant change to the traditional way of understanding corporate governance and has led to an increasing number and diversity of stakeholders to which the corporations must be held accountable.Traditionally, corporate governance has focused on "financial" aspects with the aim of improving the protection rights of corporate stakeholders whereas the CSR approach has been limited to the consideration of only economic, social, and environmental issues. However, there has, in the recent past, been a convergence of the four concepts that are increasingly frequently being jointly studied by academics and practitioners. A clear example of this convergence is the use of the ESG criteria in the assessment of sustainable investment portfolios.In this context, the aim of this paper is to present the current state of research on convergence themes (focusing on CSR and CG) in order to present the resulting framework as a basis for the subsequent analysis of the relationship between good governance practices, the CSR, and financial performance. Finally, the effectiveness of such practices and strategies will be assessed.
