Relative poverty, a concept developed by left-wing social scientists, categorises as 'poor' those who fall seriously behind normal nationwide material standards. This article argues that the widespread view that the word 'poverty' means 'relative poverty', which in left-dominated social policy academia often extends to implying that those who do not define poverty this way are necessarily misguided, has led to an incomplete portrayal of poorer British people's lived experience. The article examines published empirical work, before presenting findings from British Social Attitudes surveys and interviews with forty unemployed Jobseeker's Allowance claimants and thirty employed people. Both the existing and new findings exposed aspects of public attitudes and experience which resonate with unanswered academic criticisms of defining poverty as relative poverty. These public contributions have tended to be glossed over or treated dismissively by social policy authors, despite them attaching importance to Left-friendly aspects of poorer people's experience and attitudes.

Marconomics is about human economics. This text introduces marconomics, examining how the use of the social sciences, consumer behavior in particular, is used to explain and develop economic activity. Blawatt argues the philosophy and principles of the classical school of economic thought are problematic and should be replaced with a new model. The world is facing several serious challenges at the close of the fossil and nuclear energy regime: the limited resources of cheap conventional oil can only be surmounted by tapping unconventional oil reserves, e.g. deep sea oil. The explosion of the oil platform Deepwater Horizon in 2010 and the subsequent oil spill caused enormous damage, which even a year later cannot be fully estimated. Another even more important threat emanating from the fossil and nuclear energy regime has been brought to our attention by the Fukushima disaster. Last but not least, the problem of climate change caused by an increase in greenhouse gas emissions is looming, despite the fact that the international community has agreed on a considerable reduction of these emissions. Is this poor result of the Kyoto Protocol and the failure of successive climate conferences the consequence of a preference for the use of market-based instruments? The majority of climate scientists, economists, and politicians believe in the efficiency of "cap-and-trade" regulations. They even conceive them as a constituent ingredient of a "Green New Deal" or "Global Green Recovery". The contributions in this volume provide a critical examination of the theoretical foundations, the political implications, and the empirical experiences of the application of market mechanisms and financial instruments to climate policy.

This study aims at identifying the violence against social workers by beneficiaries and the motivation to continue working in the social work profession in the city of Umm al-Fahm, within the Palestinian1948 occupied territories. For this purpose, a questionnaire of two aspects, that contains (35) items was designed. The questionnaire was distributed to the entire study community (N=50 social workers), all questionnaires were filled out according to the instructions. The findings show some significant differences in the level of motivation according to gender variable. Females are more motivated to continue in the field than their male counterparts. There is also variation related to education, in which the more educated social workers are the more they are motivated. Finally, the findings show a positive relation between work experience and motivation, in which the less working years in the field of social work the more motivation to continue working in this profession. The researcher implies that legislations that protect social workers in their workplace must be redrafted condemning any violence against social workers as a serious crime, and to increase the social workers skills and capacities by training and capacity building in order to deal with their clients properly.
