The Western honey bee, Apis mellifera, is the most important animal pollinator in agriculture worldwide and apiculture provides full or additional family income with a considerable market for bee products used as food, pharmaceutics and medical products. More importantly honeybees are key pollinators native to Europe and have great impact for many agricultural crops and conservation of natural plant diversity. Since we joined the European Union the Hungarian Beekeepers Federation manages the budget of grounded by the 797/04 and 1234/07 EC directives. According to the 47/2010 (XII 31) VM regulation our National Program of beekeeping controls the supporting system for multiple reimbursement applications. In the six year average data of this program between the types of requests occurs a clear dominance for budgets connected to medical treatment which is a symptomatic treatment but no solution to unravel factors which are responsible for increased colony losses.

Pet ownership has historically been one of the biggest risk factors for evacuation failure prior to natural disasters. The forced abandonment of pets during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 made national headlines and led to the passage of the Pet Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (PETS, 2006) which mandated local authorities to plan for companion animal evacuation. Hurricane Irene hit the East Coast of the United States in 2011, providing an excellent opportunity to examine the impact of the PETS legislation on frequency and ease of evacuation among pet owners and non-pet owners. Ninety pet owners and 27 non-pet owners who lived in mandatory evacuation zones completed questionnaires assessing their experiences during the hurricane and symptoms of depression, PTSD, dissociative experiences, and acute stress. Pet ownership was not found to be a statistical risk factor for evacuation failure. However, many pet owners who failed to evacuate continue to cite pet related reasons.

The carcinogenic liver fluke, Opisthorchis viverrini, requires Bithynia snail intermediate hosts in its life cycle. However, the prevalence of O. viverrini in snail intermediate hosts is typically low (< 1%). Here, we examined B. siamensis goniomphalos from 48 localities in Thailand and The Lao People?s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) and reported high-prevalence levels of O. viverrini. The highest-prevalence levels per locality were 6.93% (mean = 3.04%) in Thailand and 8.37% (mean = 2.01%) in Lao PDR; 4 of 13 localities examined showed prevalence higher than any prevalence previously recorded. The number of cercariae infecting snails and their prevalence were positively correlated with the size of the snails. High prevalence occurred in the Songkram River wetland (Thailand) and the Nam Ngum River wetland (Lao PDR). Our results show that transmission of O. viverrini from humans as well as animal reservoir hosts to snail intermediate hosts is ongoing and potentially increasing in endemic areas across Thailand and Lao PDR.

Военнослужащие с психосоматическими нарушениями характеризуются снижением холестерина липопротеидов высокой плотности (ХС-ЛПВП), а также повышением холестерина (ХС) и триглицеридов. Полученные данные подтверждаются результатами исследований на модели посттравматических стрессовых расстройств у животных. ; The analysis of clinical and biochemistry blood test parameters was conducted. It was revealed that metabolic disorders with predomination of catabolic reactions are typical for the law enforcement servicemen who took part in military actions. So, the blood serum glucose value in the patient group is higher than in the control one. Military men with psychosomatic disorders are characterized by the decrease of cholesterol and triglycerides. The obtained data are supported by the results of the model analysis of posttraumatic stress disorders in animals.

The modern synthesis of genetics with evolution slanted our understanding of evolution and of ourselves by rejecting Darwin's view of animals as participating in their own evolution. Defining evolution in terms of genetics, the modern synthesis indulges excessive individualism and distorted self-images as self-made. At the same time, such gene-centred thought, evoking images of master molecules making us who we are, hollows out volition and so also moral concerns and political alternatives. Drawing on the geography of thought, we argue that stubbornly tacit preformationist biological thought reflects and anchors social processes that limit adaptability in reaching toward sustainable living. We appeal for leveraging sustainability efforts by affirming in theory and in the public square an open image of human nature that recognises the participation of our ancestors in becoming who we are, obliging people to make their history together. Achieving the collective self-regulation sustainability requires may depend on correcting slanted reasoning about ourselves.

We investigate the use of standardized relational pairs (SRPs) and the way narrators align with these in two interviews with former slaves which were conducted in the 1940s. In particular, we look at stories in which slaves are compared to animals, thus not only invoking the SRP master/slave, but also the SRP owner/property. On the one hand, the interviewees negotiate their alignment with the 'slave-property'-part of the SRP depending on the type of story that is told, which is based on the narrator's personal involvement. On the other hand, the slave owners remain noticeably absent throughout these stories and by rendering this part of the SRP almost invisible, the development of another SRP, namely that of perpetrator/victim, is avoided. As such, through these SRPs, the hegemonic order of the slave system is (re)constructed in these stories, while the interviewees' shifting alignment with them shows an orientation to personal face concerns.

Adolescence is a developmental period often characterized as a time of impulsive and risky choices leading to increased incidence of unintentional injuries and violence, alcohol and drug abuse, unintended pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Traditional neurobiological and cognitive explanations for such suboptimal choices and actions have failed to account for nonlinear changes in behavior observed during adolescence, relative to childhood and adulthood. This review provides a biologically plausible conceptualization of the mechanisms underlying these nonlinear changes in behavior, as an imbalance between a heightened sensitivity to motivational cues and immature cognitive control. Recent human imaging and animal studies provide a biological basis for this view, suggesting differential development of subcortical limbic systems relative to top‐down control systems during adolescence relative to childhood and adulthood. This work emphasizes the importance of examining transitions into and out of adolescence and highlights emerging avenues of future research on adolescent brain development.

Abstract
This essay serves several critical and metacritical functions in discussing the semiotic implications of the Chinese writing fa. First of all, it examines critically various conceptualizations of " image" in the current disciplines of " imagologies", and then it comments on a contemporary French legal theoretician's image/mirage of ancient Chinese civil law. After these surveys, the essay introduces a highly specialized topic in legal semiotics by tracing the development of the written sign of fa (law) in ancient China before the second century BCE. The written word was interpreted to represent a mythical animal, whose images have recurred in Chinese writing and art history. Focusing on the scriptural representations of fa, this essay analyzes the process of conceptualization of law in ancient China, and its transformations and mutations across the borders of semiotic systems, from the basic verbal and visual levels, to the higher levels of ideology and legal theory and practice.

La ética ambiental reconoce que los animales y plantas pueden ser sujetos morales que requieren consideración a sus derechos Relacionamos la ética ambiental con el turismo, pues éste usa el entorno natural como marco para la realización de actividades recreacionales de las personas; no obstante se ha evidenciado que existen impactos negativos ocasionados por un inadeacuado uso de los recursos naturales, por lo que el papel de la ética ambiental debe promover una relación más armónica entre el hombre y la naturaleza.

Résumé Cet article est une invitation à discuter la place de la science dans l'étude des relations anthropozoologiques. Nous soutenons que la « science », en tant qu'elle fait partie du fond culturel commun de l'Occident contemporain, doit être prise en compte par quiconque prétend documenter ce qui se joue « ici et maintenant » dans nos rapports aux animaux. Dans la lignée de la sociologie des sciences, nous suggérons que les manières qu'ont les scientifiques de penser le monde animal, de mobiliser les êtres animaux dans leurs pratiques et de produire des énoncés à leur propos, pourraient constituer autant d'objets pour une approche socio-anthropologique de ces rapports. Le propos est illustré par la présentation d'un travail bibliographique mené autour des Interactions avec l'Animal à but Thérapeutique. À travers l'analyse du développement de ce champ de recherche nouveau, nous avons décelé plusieurs « énoncés animaux » à l'œuvre en son sein, chacun lié à des cultures épistémiques particulières.

Recently, significant changes in local institutional action can be seen after the adoption of agroecological approaches and a bigger support by specific credit policies to family farms. These changes are showing new possibilities for rediscovering small scale poultry production and repositioning the relevance of this activity, including in providing greater social equity in the countryside.

Sociological analyses of social interaction have been primarily directed toward human-to-human exchange. Recently, some have begun to actively question that stance. Challenges are found in new theoretical ideas and in empirical study—experimental, field, and survey data on people's attitudes and behaviors toward nonhumans. Such developments are leading many scholars to carve out a more central role for animals, objects, images, and both memories and projections of the self and others in the study of social interaction. In this article, I review these innovative ideas, pursuing four specific tasks. First, I briefly review the theoretical grounds that eliminated nonhumans from studies of social interaction. Next, I present new theories and empirical studies that construct a role for nonhumans in social interaction. Third, I review surveys that document popular perceptions of human/nonhuman interaction. I conclude by proposing some conceptual guidelines that might bring nonhumans into our contemporary analytic frames.

Résumé La caricature politique recourt abondamment au procédé de l'animalisation pour dénigrer ses adversaires. Entre 1870 et 1914 en France, les clivages politiques sont particulièrement marqués entre républicains et monarchistes puis entre républicains de toutes nuances et anarchistes ou socialistes. La caricature vit alors son « âge d'or » et trouve à s'exprimer dans des organes satiriques ou politiques et militants. Malgré des oppositions idéologiques fortes, un des animaux les plus prisés du bestiaire caricatural, le porc, se retrouve alors sous la plume des dessinateurs de tous bords, ce qui montre une rhétorique commune. Cette unité de façade semble trompeuse. Chaque camp instrumentalise une même figure pour exalter de l'animal des caractéristiques métaphoriques bien particulières et souvent opposées à celles du camp rival. L'unanimité apparente dans ce choix animalier de la caricature reflète sans nul doute l'ancrage particulièrement puissant du porc dans les mentalités collectives et également une richesse symbolique que les dessinateurs ne retrouvent pas alors chez d'autres espèces animales.

While other theorists have turned to Arendt's analysis of statelessness and superfluity to consider questions of immigration, "illegality," and the status of noncitizens, this essay argues that Arendt's account of labor and her nonconsequentialist account of action offer a richer optic for considering the undocumented in the United States. To explore this claim, this essay constructs an alternate account of the nationwide demonstrations for immigrant rights that occurred in 2006. Rather than defining "success" in terms of replicability or immediate legislative results, the author's analysis of the 2006 protests emphasizes the significance of noncitizens laying claim to the public realm. Considering Michael Warner's concept of counterpublics, the author argues that the demonstrations can be best understood as a moment of initiation and an inaugural performance of the political. Rereading Arendt's notion of animal laborans, the essay concludes by exploring the limitations of noncitizens invoking labor as a way to gain civic standing.
