Expands current research on these perspectives by examining 3 generations of persons of Mexican origin and by analyzing the effects of a variety of assimilation dimensions on perceptions of discrimination using data from the 1979 National Chicano Survey. Results fail to support the predictions of the ethnic competition perspectives. (Abstract amended)

Noting the Boston Federal Reserve Bank study, investigates whether an alternative and less expensive analysis yields comparable results. A 3-step estimator is used to estimate a proxy for bad credit, to control for bad credit in the rejection equation and compute a measure of discrimination that accounts for the higher probabilities of bad credit among black applicants. When account is taken of a host of factors readily available from the US Bureau of the Census and not requiring extensive additional survey data collection, computations indicate that about 70% of the racial gap in loan denials can be accounted for by racially discriminatory lending practices. The SAGE Handbook of Prejudice, Stereotyping and Discrimination provides comprehensive coverage on the state of research, critical analysis and promising avenues for further study on prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination. Each chapter presents in-depth reviews of specific topics, describing the current state of knowledge and identifying the most productive new directions for future research. Representing both traditional and emerging perspectives, this multi-disiplinary and truly international volume will serve as a seminal resource for students and scholars
The paper aims firstly to assess the future of anti-discrimination measures and policies, above all through the lens of ethnic data utilization. The question posed is not only whether massive collection and usage of such data is viable in relation to its result, but also whether such ethnic data collection is an obligation incumbent upon state authorities, in international and European human rights protection systems in particular. On the other hand, this article aims to compare existence of such obligation with the existing standards on right to privacy and implications for this right stemming from such use of Big Data. The negative impact resulting from such obligation in this regard could weigh heavily on protection of personal data, currently one of the main concerns throughout Europe and the EU.

Most employers know that they cannot lawfully fire union supporters. To do so is a clear unfair labor practice under the National Labor Relations Act. Well‐versed labor practitioners know, however, that while union advocates cannot suffer from adverse actions due to their sympathies, they also do not enjoy special treatment. Employers can lawfully terminate pro‐union employees so long as the fact that the employee favors a union does not play a role in the decision.
