The Russian economy is currently going through difficult times. In this regard, the issue of regulating investment activities and improving the investment climate not only at the country level, but also in individual regions comes to the fore. This requires the development and adoption of new regulations governing the ID and investment policy at the regional level. The purpose of this article is a comprehensive analysis of the legal aspects of regional investment policy in the Russian Federation. The main research methods are interdisciplinary: political-legal and political-economic. The use of the first allows for a comprehensive analysis of the legal aspects of investment policy at the level of the regions of the Russian Federation. The second is to assess the state of organizational, managerial, political and legislative efforts of individual regions to develop their investment policies and create best practices.

While it remains a diffuse field of enquiry, political psychology has established itself as an important approach to the analysis of political life. In the United States, political psychology is offered as an optional programme in a number of leading graduate schools and is a recognized subfield of the American Political Science Association. Despite the existence of a number of active political psychologists in Canada, there has been relatively little curiosity about the status of the field. This article offers an account of research in the field. Central to this exploration is an evaluation of the ideological, cultural and substantive research in political psychology in Canada.

The role of the interpreter at international meetings of politicians and diplomats is a critical one. This book examines the history of diplomacy and diplomatic interpreting as well as the rules and realities of modern diplomatic relations. Building on interviews with interpreters, diplomats and politicians, it examines language as a tool of diplomatic and political communication, the role of interpreters in diplomacy, and the different forms of interaction and communicative behaviour interpreters face and exhibit. The book covers the different ways in which interpreters manage information, expressivity, and interaction, and what diplomats think about it. Each chapter presents key concepts and definitions; examples from existing literature are combined with interviews conducted with professional interpreters as well as seasoned diplomats and politicians to illustrate their relevance in interpreting practice. With activities for group work and self-study, including analysis and discussion of real-life interpreted diplomatic or political events, this book offers a range of interpreting exercises that encourage students to apply the different strategies discussed in the book. Weaving together the voices of interpreters, diplomats, and politicians with a systematic look at the theory and practice of interpreting in diplomatic settings, this is not only an essential textbook for interpreting students and educators but will also be of interest to professional interpreters and students and scholars of politics and international relations. Working Paper, SERIES 2017:56, THE VARIETIES OF DEMOCRACY INSTITUTE ; One of the most common adjectives used to describe democracy in sub-Saharan Africa is "neopatrimonial." Characterized by strong executives, pervasive clientelism and use of state resources for political legitimation (Bratton and van de Walle 1997), neopatrimonial democracy has been (controversially) associated with a range of (mostly undesirable) social, political and economic outcomes. This paper offers an empirical assessment of neopatrimonialism in Africa's political regimes. We show that, contrary to conventional wisdom, African regimes vary both quantitatively and qualitatively in their embodiment of neopatrimonial rule. AbstractDo men and women respond to various party recruitment messages similarly? Working with the Utah County Republican Party, we designed a field experiment in which we invited over 11,600 male and female party activists to attend a free, party-sponsored "Prospective Candidate Information Seminar" by randomizing different invitation messages. We found that women were half as likely as men to respond to recruitment—log on to the seminar website for more information, register for the seminar, and attend the seminar. While we found some suggestive evidence about what recruitment messages may particularly motivate women or men vis-à-vis a control message, our findings are inconclusive because of a low response rate. This first attempt to experimentally test gendered reactions to recruitment in a sample of active party supporters provides a valuable baseline for future research.

An exploration of the mechanisms by which religious values become politically relevant is conducted via analysis of mail questionnaire data obtained 1983/84 from a national sample of 2,667 Roman Catholics. Results are used to develop a behavioral scale of evangelically oriented Catholicism. The distinctive political orientations of those who score high on it are described, & the striking disjuncture between liberal & conservative positions on different sets of issues is discussed in terms of dual reference groups -- Catholics & evangelicals -- & the clarity of the message offered by Catholic religious leaders. 5 Tables, 1 Appendix, 81 References. CONFLICTING EVIDENCE REGARDING THE ABILITY OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT TO CONFER POLICY LEGITIMACY SUGGESTS THAT THE PROCESS OF LEGITIMATION IS BOTH SUBTLE AND MULTIFACETED. TWO ASPECTS OF THIS PROCESS ARE EXAMINED IN THIS PAPER. FIRST, THE AUTHOR EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLICY LEGITIMACY AND POLICY AGREEMENT. EXPERIMENTAL TESTS DEMONSTRATE THAT POLICY LEGITIMACY EMERGES FROM A DIRECT PROCESS OF SYMBOLIC LEGITIMATION AND THROUGH AN INDIRECT PROCESS OF PERSUASIVE LEGITIMATION. SECONDLY, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE MEDIATED CHARACTER OF SUPREME COURT RULINGS AS IT RELATES TO THE COURT'S ABILITY TO ENHANCE POLICY LEGITIMACY. EXPERIMENTAL TESTS REVEAL THAT THE COURT'S POWER OF LEGITIMATION REMAINS CONSISTENT REGARDLESS OF VARIANCE IN THE SPECIFIC CONTENT OF NEWS COVERAGE. COLLECTIVELY, FINDINGS HIGHLIGHT THE INTRICACY OF POLICY LEGITIMATION WHILE PROVIDING EVIDENCE THAT THE INSTITUTIONAL LEGITIMACY MAINTAINED BY THE SUPREME COURT CAN PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT SHIFTS IN POLICY EVALUATIONS.

'Seit den späten 1980er Jahren finden Ansätze, welche die Kategorie Lernen in den Mittelpunkt politikwissenschaftlicher Analysen stellen, immer häufiger Verwendung. Trotz des steigenden Interesses an Lernansätzen ist es zu keiner Vereinheitlichung derselben gekommen. Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die Arbeiten zum Thema Lernen in der Politik. Die einzelnen Ansätze werden im Hinblick auf ihre AkteurInnen, die Quellen und die Formen des Lernens untersucht. Schließlich werden einige der Kritiken an den Lernansätzen diskutiert.'
