The research aims to analyze government expenditure on capital spending and bank loan as well as to determine whether it has positive and significant effects on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Papua Province. The method is a quantitative study using a quantitive approach (deductive) to test the hypothesis and explain the causal relationship among panel variables (explanatory research). Data analysis techniques in the form of pooled data. Time series data were taken from 2005 to 2012 and the cross section data consisting of 19 regioncies and 1 city in Papua Province. The research results about the local government expenditure indicate that 10 the capital expenditure has positive and significant direct effect on an increase in private investment, educational level, employment recruitment and HDI, 2) the bank consumer loan distribution has positive and significant effect on the labor absorption, 3) the private investment has positive but not significant impact on educational level; it has positive and direct significant impact in the labor absorption, 4) the level of education has positive and direct significant impact on the employment recruitment and HDI, 5) labor absorption has positive and direct significant impact in the HDI.

ObjectiveRecent research on core political values and moral foundations suggests our understanding of underlying values by race is underdeveloped. We know that Democrats prefer equality and Republicans prefer social order, but we know little as to whether these differences remain constant between blacks and whites. I utilize social psychological measures, not confounding core political values, to examine these differences.MethodsConducting an original survey, I utilize the Schwartz Portrait Values to examine the effect of values on party identification and ideology by race.ResultsI find that black Americans, relatively speaking, prioritize self‐transcendence values more so than whites; white Americans give more priority to values of conservation; and black Americans give more priority to values of self‐enhancement as compared to conservation. Further, the contribution of self‐transcendence values to Democratic Party identification is similar for both races, but conservation values lead to a Republican identification for white Americans, while self‐enhancement does so for black Americans.ConclusionThis research contributes to the scarce literature on the human value structures of black Americans. The well‐established premise that Republicans prefer social order holds for white Americans, but for black Republicans, values of self‐enhancement undergird their party identification.

AbstractDespite a near unanimous agreement that human trafficking is a morally reprehensible practice, there is confusion around what qualifies as human trafficking in the United States. Adopting a mixed-method strategy, we examine how human trafficking is defined by the public; how contemporary (mis)understanding of human trafficking developed; and the public opinion consequence of this (mis)understanding. The definition of human trafficking has evolved over time to become nearly synonymous with slavery; however, we demonstrate that media and anti-trafficking organisations have been focussing their attention on the sexual exploitation of foreign women. We show that general public opinion reflects this skewed attention; the average citizen equates human trafficking with the smuggling of women for sexual slavery. Using a survey experiment, we find that shining light on other facets of human trafficking – the fact that human trafficking is a security problem and a domestic issue – can increase public response to the issue.

This paper provides new empirical evidence about the existence of a Catholic wage premium. A simple allocation‐of‐time model provides two explanations for the observation that those persons raised in the Catholic religion earn more than their non‐Catholic counterparts. The Catholic religion may add to a person's stock of human capital and/or it may act as a signal of desirable labor market characteristics such as discipline, honesty, trustworthiness, and high motivation.

Our paper presents the results of a study which was conducted between 2016 and 2019 in a high school in Budapest. The research attempted to measure the impact of the Haver Foundation's activities on high-school students. The Foundation implements activities about Jewish identity, thus we intended to see whether the different activities of the Foundation changed the attitudes of high-school students, and whether they affected the formers' level of knowledge and the associations they make with Jews. In line with the sensitivity and complexity of the research topic, and in order to create the broadest analytical framework, we followed several classes in a longitudinal setting by triangulating our methods. Results confirm the importance of these activities, especially with regard to the increase in the level of knowledge about Jews and Judaism. They also indicate that there is a need for such informal settings in high-school education. However, more extensive research needs to be carried out to obtain more accurate results about the reduction of prejudices.
