AbstractWhat narratives accompany the emergence of a negative reputation? I combine research on public organizations' reputation with narrative analysis. Narratives offer multiple benefits to reputational research, playing an important role in human cognition and comprising social constructions of both organizations and other actors. Organizations profit from insights of narrative analysis concerning their reputation management. I apply the Narrative Policy Framework to the Swiss Child and Adult Protection Agencies (CAPA). A quantitative analysis of 667 narratives in mass media shows that the emergence of the CAPA's negative reputation was accompanied by villain depictions early on, with narratives assuming a different quality after an implementation scandal. Also the CAPA's target groups underwent marked changes in their depictions, most notably with problem causers being cast as heroes in several narratives, thus questioning the CAPA's basic legitimacy as problem‐solving organization. These findings provide the CAPA with concrete starting points to amend their reputation.

Uno de los imaginarios más importantes, en lo que refiere a su alcance, impacto y continua presencia desde la década de 1960 hasta lo que va del presente siglo, es el imaginario acerca de la mafia y su extensión en el imaginario acerca del narcotráfico en el mundo. El trabajo del profesor Ravveduto consiste en demostrar cómo la historia de la mafia italiana es también la historia de su devenir espectáculo, marca e, incluso, estilo de vida. La historia de las mafias italianas hace parte de un típico caso de Public History, es decir, de una historia en contacto directo con la evolución de la mentalidad, producida gracias al uso de los mass media, en la configuración de un gran sistema narrativo y perceptivo, mediante el cual se transmiten valores, símbolos, íconos, estereotipos y, sobre todo, mitos del —y en el— mundo contemporáneo.

Abstract
The theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) enjoys considerable consensus among experts. It is widely recognized that global industrialization is producing an increase in the planet's temperatures and causing environmental disasters. Still, there are scholars – although a minority – who consider groundless either the idea of global warming itself or the idea that it constitutes an existential threat for humanity. This lack of scientific unanimity (as well as differing political ideologies) ignites controversies in the political world, the mass media, and public opinion as well. Sociologists have been dealing with this issue for some time, producing researches and studies based on their specific competencies. Using scientometric tools, this article tries to establish to what extent and in which capacity sociologists are studying the phenomenon of climate change. Particular attention is paid to meta-analytical aspects such as consensus, thematic trends, and the impact of scientific works.

In the 21st century, the concept of "security" predominantly revolves around global considerations. Mass media frequently discuss global threats to the planet, states, and societies, with individual security often taking a backseat. However, individuals are an integral part of society, and while living within the confines of a particular state, they possess the right to personal security encompassing their businesses, families, and homes. Contemporary notions of personal security are often constrained to the legal definitions of criminal offenses outlined in the state's penal code. But is this perspective sufficient? Can the state genuinely assure the safety of each individual? Is it equipped to guarantee security within the intricate fabric of today's global order, while respecting the tenets of personal freedom and limited intrusion into human life? This article offers a pragmatic exploration by the authors to address these inquiries.

The millennial presidential expert staff became the public spotlight after being officially introduced by Jokowi on November 21, 2019. This is the first time young people were in the state palace. The joining of millennial expert staff in the government has become a growing issue and has been widely reported by the mass media. This study aims to identify and describe the news framing of millennial expert staff at tempo.co. The qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study with Robert Entman's framing analysis method. The data source for this research is tempo.co online news for the period 22 November 2019 – 25 November 2019. The results of this study indicate that the framing by tempo.co to form public opinions on the news of millennial expert staff divided into four major issues by presenting news reports repeatedly. The 2017 diphtheria outbreaks in Indonesia shows the downside of inadequate immunization for certain group that could endanger public health. Despite years of government intervention on this vaccine-preventable disease, insofar mandating basic vaccination for children from an early age, ultimately, it is parents that will decide on having their children being immunized. Utilizing the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey, this study aims to uncover the association between parents' decision-making processes and their demographic variables to their children's immunization completion status. Logistic regression suggests discussion between parents in household's major purchases, more likely to result in complete basic immunization for their children. Additionally, mothers' traits, which are education, frequency of access to mass media, and exposure to medical professionals, are positively associated with compliance with basic vaccines administration. Differences in compliance can also be observed in children's gender and order of birth.

I discuss the religious life in Ukraine before and after the 2014 «revolution of dignity». The main focus of the article is on the Orthodox сhurches, as the most numerous and influential in Ukraine. I argue that since 2014 the pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) has intensified substantially, with a purpose of creating from this сhurch an image of the «radical other». The pressure was going along several lines: mass-media discussions, actions of authorities and the attempts to make changes in the relevant legislation. At the same time, the Church of Kiev Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church were receiving more support. However, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) has kept its status of the most numerous denomination, holding its firm presence in most Ukrainian regions. The attempts to marginalize this сhurch have further divided Ukrainian society, blurring the prospects for reconciliation.

AbstractAn organization may be stigmatized for the nature of its activities (core stigma), or for misconduct (event stigma). Stigma damages an organization's legitimacy and threatens its survival. Therefore, organizations respond by taking actions to mitigate stigma and restore legitimacy. However, there has been insufficient empirical analysis of responses to transferred event stigma resulting from other organizations' misconduct. This study quantitatively analyzes Japanese regional government entities' responses to criticism from mass media and political directives issued by the central government, after they had been stigmatized for a series of bid‐rigging events. This study's major theoretical contribution is its finding that organizations are sensitive to event stigma that results from others' misconduct. Additionally, this study is among the first to examine the effects stigma has on government organizations, in contrast to prior research that has focused on private companies.

The paper dwells upon the main concepts of national identity study. The actuality of the pointed issue is connected with the growth of national awareness in the society. The terms "ethnos" and "nation" have been analyzed in the research, because these terms are sometimes mistakenly used in scientific literature as synonymous. Also it is pointed out, that understanding of national character nature depends on the conception the authors hold. Pursuing this aim the analysis of the main ethnologic conception was conducted within the work, such as primordialism, constructivism, and instrumentalism. It is emphasized that if within the framework of primordialism the natural and geographical conditions for the formation of mentality come to the fore, while representatives of constructivism and instrumentalism indicate that the creative and political elite, through the creation of mythology, contribute to the formation of ethnicity with the help of the mass media.

Debate about the public sphere has been shaped by the boundary-policing of competing political systems and ideologies. Current discussion reflects the accelerating transition from the mass media era to the ramifying entrenchment of the Internet age. It has also been influenced by the vogue for analysing populism. The present transitional phase, whose outcome remains unclear, is best described as an unstable 'post-public sphere'. This instability is not unusual as, over time, conceptions of the public sphere's underpinnings and scope have continually shifted. Latterly, states' responses to the development of the Internet have given rise to a new shift of focus, a 'regulatory turn'. This is likely to influence the future shape of the public sphere.

Recent newspapers reports have named health professionals as "heroes". This is surprising, because in the last few decades, doctors and nurses have been taken into account by mass media only to describe cases of misconduct or of violence. This change was due to the coronavirus pandemic scenario that has produced fear in the population and the need for an alleged "savior". This need for health professionals seen as heroes is also disclosed by the fact that even politicians have abdicated to their role in favor of the healthcare "experts" to whom important decisions on social life during this pandemic have been delegated, even those decisions that fall outside of the specific health field. This commentary is a claim to framing the job of caregivers in its correct role, neither angel nor devil, but allied to the suffering person, that the image of "heroes" risks to overshadow.

In this article, we examine the role of fringe new-Fascist movements within broader right-integralist politics in today's Europe. Our focus lies with CasaPound, one of the most active movements in the Italian far-right galaxy, and highly visible in both the Italian as well as international mass media. We argue that while the strength of the movement itself should not be exaggerated, CasaPound has played a crucial role in the wider realm of integralist politics in Italy. Examining the movement's discursive as well as material interventions in both urban and rural spaces, we suggest that CasaPound's extreme rhetoric and highly spectacularized performances deserve attention for they serve to focalize in distinct ways migration and precarization, and in so doing help sustain calls by more "respectable" political forces to reclaim the national community from the assault of globalizing and neo-liberalizing forces and increasingly racialized migrant others.

AbstractMigration has been a defining topic in the discourse in Germany since the so-called "refugee crisis" in 2015. This corpus-assisted critical discourse analysis systematically reconstructs the discourse about migration in two influential German newspapers, thereby emphasizing the construction of different subject positions for people migrating to Germany. Mass media are an important arena for the fight for hegemony between discursive coalitions of culturalization regimes that are based on openness and closure respectively. The discursive space of the German discourse about migration offers multiple opportunities in this regard. In the left-leaningtaz, we detect a general trend to support an open society although some (but often contested) elements of closure are detected in this medium as well.Die Weltleans much more towards closure and the problematization of migration although it also offers a diverse array of interpellations that depend on the usefulness or threating character of people coming to Germany.

Abstract
Mass media have been accused of cultivating anti-immigrant sentiments in Western societies. Most studies on this topic, however, have not made a distinction between the types of television program (information vs. entertainment) or television station (public vs. commercial). Adopting a comparative approach, we use data from the six waves of the European Social Survey (ESS, 2002–2012, n = 162,987) to assess the relationship between individual and aggregate level patterns of television consumption and anti-immigrant sentiments in European societies. Individual television viewing time is positively associated with anti-immigrant sentiments, while frequent exposure to news and information programs is associated with lower levels of anti-immigrant sentiments. At the aggregate level we observe a positive effect of the total viewing time in society on anti-immigrant sentiments. In the conclusion we offer some suggestions on how this effect could be explained.
