"This article first describes the European Union's idea of gender equality and its im-plementation into European policies. The second section analyses the extent to which citizens of different European countries support the idea of gender equality. The em-pirical basis for our analysis is the "Eurobarometer 63.1" from 2005. The descriptive findings show that while a majority of European citizens support the idea of gender equality, there are substantial differences between individual countries. In the third section we explain these differences by referring to the country's level of moderniza-tion and degree of politically institutionalised gender equality, as well as the respon-dents' religious orientation and level of education, among other factors." "Drawing on a range of expert contributions, this book explores how the European Green Deal is being deployed in practice and observes how the EU tries to promote the protection of the environment in third countries. The book begins by assessing the state-of-the art in terms of the key conceptual issues and analyses sectoral initiatives that are particularly relevant for the deployment of the European Green Deal external dimensions. These include the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the EU's regulatory action in the control of maritime emissions, the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, the Deforestation Initiative, the Zero Pollution Initiative, the From Farm to Fork Initiative, and the Climate Neutrality and Clean Energy Initiative in the context of the Energy Charter Treaty. Next, the authors deal with horizontal aspects of the European Green Deal that also have external dimensions, such as the Green Deal Diplomacy, the Green Public Procurement, funding measures, initiatives related to corporate sustainability and due diligence, and the implementation and enforcement of EU environmental law. The volume concludes with a cross-cutting analysis, focusing on how the EU can strengthen the impact of its normative power on international environmental governance, while also noting its limitations. Deploying the European Green Deal will be of great interest to students and scholars of international and EU environmental law and environmental policy and governance"--
This National Europe Centre publication collates the proceedings from a conference held at the Australian National University in December 2000. The purpose of the conference was to allow the Australian diplomatic missions of nine Central and Eastern European nations seeking entry into the European Union to give their case for admission. Although Malta, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic and Romania are at different stages of preparation for the EU, the object is to gauge their progress on the formal entry criteria. The papers address the countries progress toward meeting these criteria, as well as the obstacles they face. The papers begin with a preview from the Commission. It cites the three core requisites for accession into the EU as a market economy, democratic political institutions and the capacity to abide by the EU's obligations of membership.
What are the different market philosophies or models that shape the European Union's internal market? This book proposes three models: an international model, a federal model and a national model; and argues that the structure of the EU internal market has moved from an international to federal model.

= The issues of trade-economic regulations between the Republic of Belarus and the European Union countries become a most important theme in Belarusian trade relations after the accession of new members to the European Union. Expansion of cooperation with the new members of the European Union is the main direction of the international trade policy of Belarusian government. All positive and negative factors of new issues of economic cooperation after the EU enlargement must be taken into consideration. They comprise administrative complexity, frequent changes in tax law, variations in customs tariff and payments, antidumping monitoring system, etc. These are the main goals for export potential development.
The book provides conceptual and empirical insights into the complex relationship between knowledge flows and regional growth in the EU. The author critically scrutinizes and enhances the RIS (Regional Innovation System) approach, discussing innovation as a technological, institutional and evolutionary process. Moreover, she advances the ongoing discourse on the role of space and technological proximity in the process of innovation and technological externalities. The book closes with an investigation of the role of technological change and knowledge spillovers in the dynamic growth and "catching-up" of EU regions. "Knowledge Flows, Technological Change and Regional Growth in the European Union" focuses on the identification of the elements explaining the linkages between knowledge flows and regional growth. With a critical approach to RIS theory and the need to move to an evolutionary approach to regional innovation systems, the book offers new insights into the complex relationship between space, knowledge and economic growth in the multifaceted European regions. Roberta Capello, Professor of Regional Economics, Politecnico of Milan, Past President of RSAI
"This book provides the first comprehensive review of the European Union's role in military conflict management beyond its borders and makes an important contribution to debates on the EU's role in global security governance. The EU has launched five military operations within the framework of its Common Security and Defence Policy with the explicit purpose to help manage violent conflicts beyond its borders. This book develops a definition and a set of criteria for success in military conflict management and applies this new analytical framework in a comparative case study of the five EU military operations undertaken in Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad and the Central African Republic. Having evaluated their success the book goes on to explore the conditions under which military conflict management operations conducted by international organizations are successful and explores the implications of its findings for the future theory and practice of military conflict management. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of security studies, conflict studies, European Union politics and foreign policy and global security governance"--
