Our group has chosen to focus on the UNSDG surrounding climate change. Specifically, we are passionate about ethical food consumption and production. Today in the US, food production is unethical. Industrial agriculture is damaging to the environment because of food waste, pollution, and irrigation. There is minimal action being taken to address the issues of industrial agriculture. The Green New Deal and Paris Climate Agreement are two proposed collections of legislation that address climate change but do not specifically work to combat the negative effects of agriculture. Our solution is to implement hydroponics in our IMSA dorm rooms and our school. This would help educate students about the negative impacts of industrial agriculture and help students see and understand how food can be grown locally. This would also help build a stronger sense of community in the dorms and provide more locally grown, ethically produced food within our IMSA community. We plan to spread awareness for our project using social media and intend to do fundraising to raise the money needed. We will write a letter proposing our idea to the IMSA board and work with club Terra to make sure our project becomes a yearly activity for students.

Meat originating from U.S. horses may contain residues from substances banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Union for use in animals intended for consumption. Phenylbutazone, for example, is commonly administered to U.S. horses and has been associated with life-threatening reactions in humans. Requiring a thorough drug history for each U.S. horse intended for human consumption may help circumvent human health risks.

A research paper offering policy options for irrigated food production in the SADC region. ; Southern African states irrigate about two per cent of their cropped area and they believe further irrigation development will enhance the food security of the region. This article reviews the levels of irrigation development in Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The policy debate issues includean assessment of the potential for further irrigation development, large- and small-scale systems, complementarity and competition between irrigated and rain-fed agriculture, the weak farmer and government institutions, as well as official recognition of the importance of micro-scale irrigation. All SADC states have a limited number of people trained and experienced in the various fields of irrigation. It was found that there is little on-going research, though the need for it is growing, on the economics of irrigated food production to national and household levels, the possibilities of intensifying and diversifying agriculture into high-value crops and the effectiveness of irrigation as a catalyst for non-farm jobs in rural areas.
