LAY SUMMARY In this qualitative study, 29 members of the Canadian Army Reserve were interviewed to investigate Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) recruitment and retention strategies. Studying member attitudes and participation in recruitment and retention led to original insights about the importance of community outreach, peer recruiting, and commitment on behalf of leadership when it comes to fostering a recruitment-focused culture. Participants pointed to camaraderie and the quality of training opportunities as significant considerations to improve retention, providing further validation to existing research on retention in reserve units. Using a gender-based lens, reservists were asked about the culture of the CAF, sexual misconduct, and issues facing under-represented groups. Participants felt the military was doing well meeting recruiting targets and that representation and mentorship were important tools to encourage women and members of under-represented groups to join. The answers regarding sexual misconduct were extremely consistent: most were surprised when hearing Reserve Force statistics on sexual misconduct, and many displayed low awareness of how to report incidents. Nevertheless, participants thought their units were better than others when it came to equity, diversity, inclusion, and preventing sexual misconduct, signalling these topics could be further examined in the reserves.

The purpose of this scoping review is to find all existing North American literature on male working carers and compare this information with female working carers. Searches were performed using various databases, published between 1996 and 2016. A total of 506 articles were found and 45 (n = 45) met all inclusion criteria. Five qualitative themes were identified: caregiving characteristics; motives for caring; work impacts; health impacts; and caring in the workplace and coping strategies. This review narrows the gap in the literature with respect to the similarities and differences between male and female working carers, and the way in which they approach caregiving tasks.
In Spain, the political efforts to eliminate the gender gap in the labour market have crystallised with the enactment of the Law 3/2007, 22 March on effective equality between women and men. However, despite the inclusion of gender issues in the political agenda, there is evidence that occupational sex segregation remains a significant barrier toward gender equality, in particular, in the Spanish advertising sector. Given that advertising speech has a great potential in fostering egalitarian attitudes in our society, it is necessary to make research focused on achieving the full gender equality between the advertising professionals (the creators of these messages). With this background, this article attempts to analyse if there is a disguised form of sexism (neosexism) that could impede advertising women's upward mobility and could concentrate them in activities related to their gender roles. Thus, the aim of this study, focusing on gender, is to examine the neosexist attitudes of a sample of 753 Spanish advertising employees. Our results indicate that, in line with previous findings, men scored significantly higher than women on the Neosexism scale. However, there was little observed absolute separation of neosexist attitudes between males and females. It would be necessary, as a future line of research, to analyse if there are gender-biased methods in the Human Resources Selection Units that could exclude women from advertising decision-making positions and from departments like creative services. ; This study is part of a larger project, "The woman in the advertising industry", supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Spanish National Women's Agency) (ref. i+d+i1/03) to the second author.

Gender impact assessment has been both celebrated as a beacon of hope for the cause of gender equality and criticised as being ineffectual. More than 20 years of gender mainstreaming have demonstrated that equality governance with and through impact assessment is an intersectional and still evolving process. Arn T. Sauer's study examines the instruments of gendered policy analysis and the conditions under which they are being used by the Canadian federal government and the European Commission. Interviews with experts from public administration and instrument designers as well as document analyses reveal benefits and challenges and show that the success of equality governance depends upon whether knowledge about gendered policy and appropriate administrative practices are embedded, embodied and entrenched in public administration.

The purpose of this paper is to study the Canadian experience of new approaches de-velopment for integration of gender-based analysis into the government activities on the federal, provincial and municipal levels. Gender-based analysis is one of the main tools of gender mainstreaming in Canada. The paper analyzes new approaches and definitions of the term «gender-based analysis», which became the result of conceptual shifts in the understanding of the nature of gender-based analysis by several jurisdictions in Canada. It is considered a variety of practical tools – checklists, gender lenses, questions, graphs and specific cases – which are geared specifically toward a specific technical specializa-tion of government agencies in Canada. It is noted that these tools are offered within the methods developed to link gender-based analysis to the functions of government perfor-mance. The conclusion is that Canada is a world leader not only in the use of gender-based analysis in the process of public policymaking, but further improvement of the practical tools, and expanding its scope.
