Ever since the ASEAN was formed in 1967, questions of security have become an ever increasing issue, despite rhetoric to the contrary. ASEAN was set up primarily to promote co-operation among members in the socio-economic field. However, ASEAN leaders, then and now, have been tacitly preoccupied with security issues. The authors outline and analyse bilaterial and multilateral security co-operation between and among some ASEAN states. Comparison between ASEAN and Vietnamese armed forces. (DÜI-Sen)
